Teachers Allowed to Carry Weapons in School?

I've been hearing news that they are trying to pass a law in which teachers and school staff are permitted to carry weapons in school after extensive weapons training.

Some of the states already gave the thumbs up to this idea. So the question is, do you think it's a good idea or not?

I think it's a great idea especially after the College incident I can't remember where it was but 31 children were killed. I think it's a great idea that people should be allowed to defend the classroom.

My 7th grade teacher was constantly being threatened by some girl she used to teach who had just gotten out of jail. She eventually had to move away to somewhere beyond my knowledge. If that dropout had actually made good on her promises, that law definitely would've been handy.

I honestly think that the whole idea is preposterous. First, violence will not solve violence. Just think of the multiple problems it would create.

For instance, a teacher is human…just like the students. They can potentially lose control of their temperament or even sanity as compared to those who committed violent crimes in schools previously. Having the title “Teacher” does not make someone responsible enough to carry a weapon in school where the instructor may endanger the lives of children or adolescents.

How can the certain presence and increase of firearms on school campuses guarantee a decrease in violence? So how can we be sure that this whole idea would not backfire on the students? That is the thing – we’re not sure at all. We can never be sure on anything in this world. I would not trust the idea of having my children in a classroom with a teacher carrying a weapon – at all.

I know we’re all upset with all the school violence happening…it can’t be helped. A choice is a choice, and whether students choose to execute it or not is not in our hands. Because how do we really know that the person sitting beside us will plan something that will jeopardize many lives? Or if that person will be the victim instead? You see, we don’t know these things, and the lack of knowing is the problem. How would we know whether a teacher will or will not do the same thing?

I have heard others say, “If you can trust someone with a student's mind and future, why not trust them with their bodies as well?” Valid point, but my problem with that is the whole trust issues. You cannot really trust anyone nowadays – most definitely concerning people’s lives.

Another point is that if the laws are indeed passed, then all the students all over the world will be aware of this. Now, think of what can happen then. A little imagination here and there and soon we’ll have students (at least that one crazy student) bringing down the classroom or school by playing war games with their most hated teachers. You get the idea.

The whole point is to not bring guns and violence inside schools. Prevent them, but not in a way that will jeopardize more innocents by bringing countless weapons in school.

A safer environment…? Not bloody likely.

In my opinion this is a ridiculously stupid idea.
Theyre tryin to stop pupils taking in weapons so why let the teachers carry them?????
How will this benefit a teacher??? If a pupil gives them aggro or threatens them are they really gonna take out their weapon and use it?
This will only lead to more confrontation where the likely outcome is that someone will die.
Schools meant to be for learning, allowing teachers to carry weapons isnt gonna help solve the problem of misbehaving pupils. The whole idea is just crap!

No, the solution is a kid gets three misbehaviour marks a day, if he/she hits three then they are marched out to a hanging tree where they are hung while the rest of the school watches. The body is left for 2 weeks and then is removed at the expense of the kid's parents.

I reckon discipline would improve in a couple of weeks.

Teachers SHOULD NOT be allowed to carry guns to school. Teachers are just as human as the school shooters. Say they have a problem student who is always acting up and calling the teacher names and disrupting the class. The teacher might finally snap one day and shoot the kid. Teacher goes to jail. Going ape-sh1t and wanting to shoot someone can happen to anyone. Even if teachers are allowed to carry guns the student would still have the element of surprise. They could still shoot the teacher before the teacher knew what was going on. I think the only faculty that should be allowed to carry a firearm are the campus security. If schools really wanted to keep school shootings from happening then they would find a way to keep them from happening. The best way is metal detectors. Random searches. Uniforms that have very little loose space or tiny pockets. They are plenty of ways to keep guns out of schools without endangering the lives of students.

I can't say I back up the teacher's carrying guns at all. Half of the people who teach in public schools are barely more competent than the students they're teaching. I'm not sure I'd really trust any of them to carry a weapon even if I did think they were smart. Carrying a gun is a big responsibility and unless you've got the brass balls to wield lead and steel, you're gonna get that thing turned on you. Either that or you're going to end up freaking out and shooting someone who was just talking big. I'm completely against this, even with weapon's training.

I'm against this as well, sure it may seem like the 'safe' thing to do, but of course, there are the ever-present dangers of carrying weapons, especially in the hands of, well, anyone really.

Like Mitsuki said, it's choice, and we really have no bloody idea who would make the choice of doing something violent like what happened in VT or Columbine or wherever else. Yes, it would create various problems I think, firepower vs. firepower...

I don't really think that it would send the wrong message for teachers to carry guns, per se, more like it would send too strong a message to everyone involved. It means that the faculty are willing to take a stronger stand against school violence, but it also means that someone or some group out there would tighten up their resolve elsewhere.

Anyway, a better alternative to the situation is having a campus police officer rather than 40 armed teachers. I know that in my high school back in California, we had one.

Having teachers carry weapons in their classroom may pose a threat to students, and it may affect the learning processes and academic abilities of students through distraction and fear. Some may view it as a way to control the students through intimidation, which may cause further tragedy and possibly an uprising of acts of rebellion. In addition, learning would not be as fun anymore. But hey, who said learning was fun anyway?

Now, concerning teachers who would undergo weapons training – I still do not like the idea, as it would just make the situation deadlier, don’t you think? Ponder on that one.

Then yes.

If they were allowed weapon training, I think it would be safe to say that if something goes drastically wrong with a teacher, he or she could just about fight through anything. The power that is allowed a teacher, having a personal weapon, could be presented in other ways than just school safety, especially if they could carry it home.

They could break all sorts of rules with it, I think.
