/\^The Debatists^/\ discussion thread

I love the idea of asking 2 questions per poll, it allows us to eliminate any prior bias.
1) I side with A, A won debate
2) I side with A, but B won debate
...
Its a good idea. However I was leaning on 4 poles. for example

1. I side with A, but B represented their debate better
2. I side with B, but A represented their side better
3. I side with A, and A represented their side better
4. I side with B, and B represented their side better

The poll looks more like we're going to be voting when it ends...? So the poll isn't for stating your belief on the topic but how you feel after the debate ends? Okay. Didn't know that.

Yes. Mods can edit the poll. But they can't edit whether or not it's public or private, so you need to make sure you set that correctly.

Roland- we agree on the 4 choices, i just used the "..." because I was to lazy to type out the last 2.

Also, I think there should be a 2 week lifespan on debates. Five days is just cripplingly short, especially if there are students (like me) who cannot spend a good portion of the day just formulating and watching for posts. 5 days would make the threads move so fast that easily half the people that want to participate couldn't because by the time they post, they're quoting posts that went up 3 pages ago. I'm not a fast poster, I like to take my time and get my facts straight. We should allow some leeway time for research and the like. 2 weeks would be more than enough time for a very hot debate thread, I think, and removes the crushing pressure of time.
I agree with Caitlin. It makes people think they must respond right away, and also this could make it a bit more relaxed.

Now concerning the post count limit, I actually agree with Caitlin. The reason we have a post count limit is so that we don't have people writing small pointless posts and so we don't see them taking up most of the debate. But a minimum word count and some overseeing by the "mods" would fix that, right?

I don't think there should be a minimum word count. Some people (like me) aren't going to be using 500 to 600 words to get their point through.

Aren't the word counts meant to be caps? Like, no more than Xamount of words?

Yes right now we have Three people who have said 1400 words are ok.

You asked for more words dragon, so to save time can we just settle at 1500?

As for post count we have three people, Me, Exocreat, and California who said 15 is ok. You and Star opted for no post count, we need draks vote to tie it up or give favor to a certain direction. If it does tie up then we need to consult the publics opinion as to what everyone wants.

?. Do you think 1500 words per post is enough... or do you request more.

?. Do you think 15 posts per debate, per person, is enough? or do you request NO post count?

1500 words is enough. Post count limit is fine. I was replying to this:

But a minimum word count and some overseeing by the "mods" would fix that, right?

Now that I think about it, a minimum of about 100-150 would be good, so people don't complain about how they ran up their 15 posts with short answers.

I think everyone can agree with a minimal 150 words, right? I will side on that table too.

by a majority favor among us we are going to swing in for 15 post per thread.

Also we have Dragon mage, and starstruck who have opted for two week long debates instead of one. I vote agaisnt this because it would be waiting too long for the public to get involved, and it would sparse between topics too much.

If everyone votes two weeks as well, then I think we should figure out if we should host two debates per week.

I'm in agreement for 1 week for debates that only have 3 people on each side, but 2 weeks would be much better for those (like Dragon Mage said) who have school or take longer than a day or two to post. It all really depends on the topic as well.

I have an offering. How about people who set up their own debates with sign ups (the public or us) can allow a two week long debate, if they wish to be involved in it. The debates we manufacture could last in a one week length period. Is that ok with star and Dragon?
