FFXIV-New-Classes-Possible.jpg

Final Fantasy XIV producer Hiromichi Tanaka has said that additional races post-launch for the upcoming MMORPG is “very possible to add” to the game. He goes as far to say that the development already had other races planned, but had to let them go due to time constraints.

“From a game design point of view, we do have other races already prepared, but during the development process we had to put priority elsewhere and due to the schedule we had to give up,” Tanaka told Final Fantasy Union during E3 two weeks ago.

“In the future, if we have enough man power, it is very possible to add it to the game.” Considering MMO’s are constantly getting new patches to keep players attracted, I think they’re bound to add new classes.

Final Fantasy XIV launches September 30 on PC and in March 2011 on PS3.

That's very logical. Like FFXI, they can always add in new patches, updates, expansions etc.

I also expect new weapons, enemies, dungeons, even landmasses as well in the future.

Even though I won't get this....it is a little irritating for those wanting to play it on their PS3s to wait until March next year to get it when SE promised us a 2010 release. :lew:

My immediate reaction was "oh cool, we'll get to see more races". It is cool and I'd love to see what they have planned.... However it is also annoying as having other races released after the game is launched will mean that you'll be forced to make a new character and start over, if you wanted to play as it. It's annoying because (if it is the same as FFXI) it'll cost you more to make a new character, and it'll also be very time consuming. I found it difficult enough in FFXI to level up one job on one character, and to start over with a new character and race would have just about killed me.

It's ok with releasing new areas, new weapons, and new jobs, as they don't require you to start over... New races? Cool for those who can spend a billion hours mastering every job for every race, but annoying for those that would want to start off as one of the new races and do not have time to master more than one character.

I'd love to see more races, but I think I'd much rather wait for them to be released before I get the game myself (if I ever do). I'd rather be able to play them from the beginning instead of having to start over.

It might work differently on FFXIV though, I’m not sure.

I hope you release that 90% of the MMO's out there release new races and classes later on in the games life. As a mater of fact it is stupid not to do so. This is one of the things that keeps pleople not only interested in the game but keeps the hardcore players playing it and not moving onto something else.

Not only that but if they add a new continent or whatever in a future expansion it only makes sense to add a new race is possible since you will be encountering cities, villages, providence that have never been seen in the game or explored thus far.

They should have come up with new races in the first place. Instead of changing their names and introducing different variations of the races. I was very disappointed by that.

This is so true. Why would you want to play FF XIV when FF XI is just about the same? I know it has new places and new storylines but the races staying the same kind of pisses me off. It's gunna seem like a sequel to XI, even though it's its own game. Idk SE, you've been making some strange decisions the last decade, let's change it for the 10's!

Square-Enix isn't known for their, "bright" decisions.

Agreed. Or if not new races, at least popular races from the singleplayer games in the franchise like moogles. I'll never understand why they chose to place FF XIV so stylistically close to FF XI. It's not as if it was overtly inspired design in the first place and FF XI wasn't insanely popular either, so it doesn't really make sense catering to that part of the fan base.

This I totally agree with.

Also, you can't even transfer your FFXI character over to FFXIV anyway, so there is absolutely no point in recycling the races. It's just things like this that really puzzles me about Square Enix.

If SE really wanted to reach out to as many FF players (old and new alike) with this game as they could, then I can't think of a better time to throw in races like Bangaa, Ronso, even FFIX's anthropomorphic animals in just for a bit of fanservice as well. That would have been a much better alternative if they don't want to throw in new races right off the bat.

Sadly with FFXIV now, it's looking like it really lacks ambition and creativity - more like an afterthought. I'm starting to think that they prioritised with making a "next-gen" version of FFXI over everything else. :hmmm:
