Unless I'm bloody blind, this thread hasn't been made yet!? So, who all has been to see this movie? What did you think of it? Considering it's a musical and I don't normally get into most musicals, I LOVED this film! I could listen to Johnny Depp sing for hours and hours and hours. He's got the most amazing voice. I loved watching him get his revenge on the judge, but
when he killed his wife, Lucy and at the very end when he's just holding her and singing,
I swear I felt like I wanted to cry. I just felt so much for the poor man during the movie. Depp's performance was phenomenal as usual and the anguish in his eyes made you realize just how much Todd was suffering...Oh yes, I'll never be able to look at a meat pie the same again...

I'll never look at yellow hair growth liquid the same ever again.. But Johnny Depp did an amazing job, he really took himself to a whole new level. And believe it or not, that's sorta what its like when you slit a throat, and yes I have seen things have their throats slit lol.

But it is honestly one of my favorite movies now, Tim Burton and Johnny Depp make an awesome pair, that's for sure.

Personally I don't think they could have made the ending any better, and I say this not for many movies, but I was not bored for one second through the whole movie. In all honesty, even if you dislike or hate musicals, its a must see. I can already tell it'll be on of the greats for 2008.

I'm gonna keep my movie stub forever ><

Now if excuse me, I have to go look on ebay for a straight razor.. o_O

Depp's performance was brilliant; however, I had a difficult time enjoying the movie with it being a musical and all. The singing wasn't pleasant. It got to the point where they'd sing in normal conversation! Minor complaint, though.

There were plenty of plot twists...and the movie was pretty funny despite its dark nature. I laughed when I fully understood the little operation Depp and his female assistant developed with the barber shop and meat pie restaurant.

On another note, I wasn't expecting the movie to be NEARLY as gory as it was. Lots of blood--lots of fake-looking blood.

That's how a musical is though, VoN, that's just something you have to get used to in the type of musical it was. Johnny's singing was still amazing though!

Yes, Savvy I agree, I will NEVER look at hair tonic the same again, but I was laughing so much at that part.

I know what it looks like to see a slit throat and blood doesn't gush like a fountain. Blood does poor out and the arteries make it spray. There was too much blood in this movie for it to look...real. Regardless though, I felt sort of bad for Mrs. Lovett...the unrequited feelings going on there, but nevertheless, I suppose in the end, they call got what they deserved lol The ending was brilliant, Johnny was brilliant and his singing voice was amazingly sexy!

Now now Savvy, if you're going to get straight razors, you'd best be careful xD Don't want to go too mad now, do we? ^_~

Aah I really want to see this film! =D

Although after reading these posts, it's probably not my kinda film considering I get painfully squeamish at the bare mention of blood or veins.. >.< I still want to see it though as it has Johnny Depp in it, and it's a musical aswell and I have a strange obsession with musicals. It's an 18 though which means I can't go see it in the cinema ¬_¬ So I'll either have to wait until it comes out on dvd, or try and find it on the internet..

I went to see it on Friday, since it FINALLY came to a theater within reasonable driving distance! It was phenomonal. Johnny's singing was so outstanding, and he seemed so villianous, yet so likeable. I've never eaten meat pies. but I know that I'll never eat them now!

Oh man. I just came back from watching this movie. It really was something. I feel sorry for the kid though. What he went through is going to screw him up for life.

Um...I actually didn't like this movie. Then again, I'm of the opinion that most of Tim Burton's work (with the exception of Nightmare Before Christmas) is overrated. The singing got annoying very fast. Obviously that's not Tim Burton's fault as it is, well, a musical. I just didn't realize how much of a musical it is before seeing it. And some of the lyrics were so....corny. Again, that's the playwriters, not Burton. But some of the choices Burton made drove the movie way over the top, in my opinion. The poses Johnny struck when singing were just so...campy to me. And am I the only one who saw the "plot twist" coming from a mile away?

I must say though, I loved Cohen in his very small role. I thought he was hilarious, as always.

Personally I loved every part of this movie.
I thought Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter were awesome in this movie, their singing was awesome and the "A Little Priest" song was hilarious.
I loved all the twists in it too;
when it turned out the crazy lady was his wife and that Mrs. Lovett had known all along mainly
and the ending, that was awesome.

Sweeny was absolutely gorey to the bone. I haven't seen that much blood since kill bill :D

I did enjoy it, specially the outfits Helena was wearing, so lushy! Plus Johnnys striped swimsuit. The musical score is excellent and Burton just goes OTT with the blood with is always a bonus for me lol!

You know, it seems that everybody who has seen this movie loved it. I personally didn't think that much of it either. =/

I thought it would have been a lot better if it weren't a musical. And this is coming from somebody whose favourite films include Chicago, Grease and Hairspray. It wasn't so much the singing that I found tedious, just the songs. They were just... dragging and boring, and I found it hard to stay focused when they were singing. When I complained to my sister that I was an hour into the film and there didn't seem to be any plot yet, she asked me if I had even been listening to the songs..? Well.. no, because I thought they were terrible. >.<

I didn't think much of the characters either to be honest, they seemed quite flat and 2-dimensional. But maybe that was just because I found it hard to stay focused.

On a positive note though, I thought that Depp dealt with what little character he had to work with well. He was very convincing and really frightening aswell, and him and Helena Bonham Carter seemed to be perfect for the roles.

Odd fact: Sweeney Todd is one of the very few Tim Burton films to not have the musical score done by Danny Elfman...
Actually I think its only the second...

The movie was brilliant Although I am not going to lie that dude who sings Joanna all the time... I ahted him with a passion/ the thing's Depp sings are very sinister and very intresting to hear... sadly when I saw the old woman for the second time in the movie and actually got a good look at her face well with what I could see I was like oh snap it's her >.<

So I ruined my own ending. So the main plot twist I ruined myself. Although, personally I thought he was gonna kill Joanna too.

The meat pie bit was simply fantastic I was laffing so hard the minute misses luvitz said what an awful shame what an awful waste while looking at the pie shop across the street. I was laffing so hard in the theatre and everyone just stared at me. I couldn't stop laffing they didn't know what was comming and the minute they did the whole theatre couldn't help it. It was great. Although this is soooo not a movie for ppl who do not like musicals all that much.

*How can you like Chicago and not like moulin rouge >__>?*

I was actually looking real forward to this when I first heard about it.

Johnny Depp is my favourite actor so I thought that this would definitely be a great movie.

When I saw it though, I wasn't too enthusiastic about it.

It was a great movie, but was a bit dreary and kind of dragged on a bit for me.

I liked the story behind Sweeney Todd though. Sad what happened to his family. =(
