Square Enix to limit your FF XIV playtime

8 hour rule

i expirienced in ffxi that it's much easier if you lvl your jobs at the same time.. and timer resets when you change class

so yea the hardcore players will have a slight disadvantage. Unless you lvl all classes to max...

The fact is ofc that we have to pay for it.
Maybe they hope people will be in game for short periods so the servers can handle it ;)

If you people are spending 8 hours a week grinding one skill and refuse to do anything else, you are GOING TO LOSE THIS GAME ANYWAYS. You HAVE to branch out, and when you do, that 8 hour surplus timer goes down. It's not like you're even limited to that amount of time, you're limited to 15 hours, but you'll just take a gradually increasing EXP penalty until then. If people understood how the battle system worked- that no one class has all the tools necessary for survival- I think there would be a lot less complaints.

They've got to be kidding o_o
A "normal player" is supposed to play at least 2 hours per day, and that's 14 hours per week.
This totally makes no sense...

They want to charge people to play, then limit their playtime? That doesn't seem right.

If it was 8 hours a day, I'd understand, but 8 hours a week is ridiculous.

15 hours. Not 8 hours.

15 hours.

and it goes down when you train other classes!

I think you'll survive! t.t

lol they said its character based and not skills so even though you change classes the timer doesnt go down, it takes one week for the timer to decrease. but perhaps they changed it like you are saying now..

Could you give me the link of this information, I would like to read about it indept.

I understand the limiting of play time. I really do. Look at WoW. That game is horribly addicting. (I had to play free servers, but in 3 Months I only played 84 hours). But if you are PAYING for something, you should be able to use/play it as much as you can. Now if this was a F2P game, I'd support it. But for the ONLY fact of you pay for it, Screw Square.

Wait... theyre limiting our gameplay hours!? This is the first i've heard of this... And already im begining to think twice of FFXIV...

When I heard this on screwattack's hardnews I laughed my ### off. This is literally the stupidest thing they could do to their installment. My prediction is it'll be a hit upon release, and then people will realize how made of fail this idea actually is (most likely during the summer, where students discover they can't play after a certain number of days). Then sales will drop faster than you can take a crap.

Though I have no intention of getting it (DCUniverse will be eating my life away) I'm still interested how it'll play out realistically.

I have to agree with you here, I think when people first see "to limit your playtime" they instantly jump to the wrong conclusions.
I don't think it's a limiter as such, more like you play for so long - the longer you play the more it'll affect you, so before that 15 hours is up. You change class or something along those lines. I'm not really sure how it works but I think that's aroundabouts the area it's at.

I think what they're looking for here is to get the player to variate more, that's what it looks like to me anyway.
Don't knock it until you've tried it i'd say.
It may be a bit of a controversial move, but it may work out pretty well, who knows?
