With stores ready for the launch of Final Fantasy XIII in four days, Square Enix has released the data for their first shipment of the game. They've shipped 1 million copies to stores around Japan and are planning on shipping another 150k on the 17th followed by 150k by the end of next week. That brings the total shipment for the first week to 1.3 million.

To put that into perspective, Final Fantasy XII shipped over 2 million copies before release. Of course that was because the Playstation 2 had a much larger install base at the time.

You can't possibly argue with those numbers. FFXIII is the biggest Japanese release of the year and with all the hype and advertisements in Japan, I didn't expect any less.

Considering the PS3's install base is significantly lower than the PS2- these are still tremendous numbers. If I were Wada now, I'll be preparing to rejoice at the gargantuan profits the company will amass.

As always, good work Asabella! :awesome:

Indeed, Id say that sounds about spot on lol. Its going to be a top seller for quite a while over in Japan, so they will need as many copies as possible. I dont see it selling as well in the States and Europe. It just seems like people have gotten bored and fed up with the series. I do hoped Im proved wrong though.

Thanks for the info.

At first I was quite shocked with only being 1 million copies considering DQIX shipped around 4/5million in the first two weeks. Then I realised that the PS3 numbers in Japan are only around 3/4 million so that's quite a lot in reality, certainly a third to a quarter of all PS3 owners will own FFXIII then :ryan:

I hope they need more copies, because it's just such a great game and everyone (at least in Japan) should buy it, fantastic game. I pressume Europe will contribute around the same numbers, and America just behind them (as Europe seems to have more promotion, but perhaps figures in previous installments could support that). Either way, I hope they reach their estimated 6 million.
