yep you heard it
the number 3 you will find popps up all over ff8, in many aspects, from names to counters

for example:

squall lionheart

6 letters in his first name: 2x3=6 (just incase you didnt know)
9 letters in his surname: 3x3=9
15 letters in his name: 5x3=15

there are only 3 playable characters at a time on the field

you see ULTEMECIA 3 times in the last battle

once when she is first fighting you
once when she attaches herself to griever
and once when shes in her last form... aka ultemecia

these are only some examples...
but i want more found and fished out

so are there any more to be found for ff8

then for the other ff games

i will try to keep this section as up to date as possible
FF8:

squall lionhert (2x3(6) first name) (3x3(9) surname) (5x3(15) full name)

seing ultimecia 3 times in the final fight

internal counters for in battle events are always max out at 13.33 seconds

the junction system maxes out at 255. this is equivalent to FF (link to the game title) in hexadecimal counting-which is counted in base 15 (5x3) (humans count in base 10)

the maximum amount of useble characters at one time on the field is 3

the amount of chances you have to enter the lunatic pandora the first time in esthar is 3

the amount of slashes odin makes with the white kanji before cutting THROUGH the enamy with the red kanji is 3

when odin is killed 3 red kanjis come on the screen in turn

Three is a number with huge significance in most religions and most things.
The Holy Trinity, Jesus had three temptations.
Plato split the soul into three parts.

I think in this case it's just coincidence and not something that SE purposely did.

Heh, I honestly didn't notice that. But I agree with Kasabian, it's probably just a coincidence that "3" appears a lot in the game *shrugs*

It is quite probably just a coincidence. Really you can spot the number three anywhere if you look.

Take this thread for example; I am the third person to respond to your reply.

In your user name 6maximus9, there are the numbers in your name which are multiples of 3 and there are 9 characters in your name (3x3=9)

Fusionist's user name also has 9 characters. If you multiply the two users who have 9 characters in their name by the amount of characters (2x9) you get 18. 6 goes into 18 3 times.

I have found the number three all over my house as well, there happen to be 3 empty bottles of Powerade in my kitchen. I have 6 Cheese sticks left. My street has three street signs at the end of the street. There are 3 Grey cars currently parked on my street. There are Four vans parked on my street, two are white, one is red and one is Grey (3 colors).

In the wise words of Bob Dorough, "Three is the magic number".

Oh and if you divide the amount of words in this post (196) by 3 you get 65.3333333333333333333

They say that "three is the magic number"...

Three appears everywhere, religion, comedy, everyday lives. It's just one of thos numbers...

Haha, ok, this is turning into the 23 phenomena.
In case you don't know what the 23 phenomena is, it is a belief that everything in the world has a connection with the number 23. For example (taken from http://www.independent.co.uk/news/u...acts-about-the-number-twentythree-437520.html):

Humans have 46 chromosomes, 23 from each parent
The Earth is on a tilt of 23 degrees. People will say that it is actually 23.5, but isn't 5 just 2+3?
Some people say that the number 23 is associated with God, but 2/3 =0.666
Charles Darwin's Origin of Species was published in 1859 - 1+8+5+9 = 23
The Hiroshima bomb was dropped at 8.15am - 8+15= 23
William Shakespeare was born in Stratford Upon Avon on 23 April 1564. He died 52 years later on his birthday, 23 April 1616. Kurt Cobain [of Nirvana], the god of grunge, was born in 1967 and died in 1994 - 1+9+6+7= 23, 1+9+9+4 = 23
The first morse code transmission - "What hath God wrought?" - was from the Bible passage Numbers 23:23
.
.
.
The list goes on.
Completely off topic, but an interesting piece of information nonetheless.

Well if you go all the way to the SNES days or really any classic game you will notice that three is a very common number used. For instance most enemies took 3 hits to kill back then.

I feel that it's a total coincidence. But that's cool that you noticed. I didn't think anything of it.

I think you're looking into it all waaaaay too much. The only thing special about the number three is that, since FFIV, every FF Game has had three girls xD

Apart from that, I don't think the number 3 is significant.

And, I think this thread would work better in General Discussion.

-Thread Moved-

Hmmmm. I apreciate you looking into this and thats a good list of 3 isntances...
But 3 and multiples of 3 appears everywhere, as stated. It's not limited to FF8, nor any Final Fantasy for that matter. It probably wasn't a conscious choice but mroe likely something which naturally occurs with anything, and you just happen to have noticed it with this.

12 is another number like this. 12 disciples of Jesus, 12 Olympian gods, 12 labours of Heracles, 12 gates to heaven. 12 being a multiple of 3 (3 x 4) is all connected to this also. 12 is another well used number.

I'm the 9th poster in this thread. 3x3 = 9 so another reference there.
