Well I insist on being years behind everyone else and I think it's about time I played this game.

I have to ask first though. I know there are a couple "sequels" but I can't play either of them because Squeenix sucks balls and put them on the DS.

I'm just wondering if they suck and don't really expand the story and thus I can ignore them and not feel inadequate?

Just play the game with an open mind man, for me it was the best FF game to date and one of the best games of all time.

it is alot of fun and really long, specially if you want to collect all the specials items and do the sidequests.

i never played any of the spin off because i don't have a ds but i don't think they are really part of the main story or anything.

enjoy FF12.

and thus I can ignore them and not feel inadequate?
pretty much. The spinoffs don't add anything to the original plot, they're more like the 'ever after' part that doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things.

Have fun with it mate.

There's only one spin-off / sequel to FFXII, and you can pretty much ignore it. It doesn't add anything to the story of the original game, and the story in the sequel is mediocre at best too.

Just play FFXII and enjoy it for what it is, instead of worrying about the sequel. It's a really fun game ^^

I shall have FFXII very soon. (like an hour, lol) but the shipper in me is demanding to know something.

Is Vaan x Penelo canon? Some say it's not but then someoen told me Revenant Wings says it is.

it's hinted at fairly strongly, but there are no overt romance scenes between them.

They're not really romantically involved with each other. They're simply childhood friends who have both suffered similar tragedies and who both initially make their ends meet together in Rabanastre. Revenant Wings as far as I know does hint at it a few times, but again nothing really happens.

Do enjoy FFXII. ^_^ It's a game some enjoy and some despise depending on how you find the battle system. I personally loved it - it's not perfect - but it is a great sendoff to the PS2 era. Only Revenant Wings is the true sequel to FFXII - though as people said here, you don't need to worry about it - it's just a tack-on. The other games in the Ivalice compilation aren't really closely related with FFXII either so you don't need to worry about them as well.

The game is really fun. The thing that stands out about the game is the story, graphics, and the characters. Just like any other FF^^. Good fun game to play.

Final Fantasy XII, well, are you unfortunate.
The game wasn't too bad, but if you like it then okay.
I know it's part of the series but, it was good for a bit.
But it kind of drowned.

Loved it .............I loved the battle system because you didnt have to switch in and out of your battle mode i thought it made the game much smoother and much more enjoyable

Pretty much as every one else has said.

I bought XII after the sequels came out, but refused to buy them, and quite frankly, I very much enjoyed XII by itself. You really don't even need sequels for it.

Plus it kept me off XI for almost a year. :P

So i just started it.

Initial thoughts.

1. Combat feels nothing like FF. I've played FFs 2 through X-2 and oviously this battle system is like none of them. Feels almost like an Action Adventure game more than the RPGs I'm used to.

2. The voice-acting is alright. This is one area it does feel like an FF with the medival type acting. I can see (or rather, hear) what this guy told me though when he said it had compresed audio. It's kinda hard to get used to. Wonder why they did that.

will you be updating as you play? it'd be interesting to hear how/if your thoughts change as you progress.

I'll try. I don't expect to get very far tonight. I have be up early tomorrow.

I'll post where I'm at when i stop.

XII had THE strongest boss in FF, and there's lots to do on the game. And it was an OK game.

Everyone, let's try and keep the one-liners to a minimum. This is a post-count section so try and expand a bit on your posts and make sure it actually adds to the topic. Thanks. :)

XII had THE strongest boss in FF, and there's lots to do on the game. And it was an OK game.

Maybe the strongest optional boss, but definitely not the strongest storyline boss.

Just the fact that the final boss has to use magic shields for immunity to physical and magical for several seconds to several minutes at a time tells me they didn't feel at the end that the FB's stats were strong enough to put up with your party by the time you get there.

I know that paragraph is beyond messed up, but I didn't want to spoil anything for OP, because this is one of the better FF games for really just wondering around and looking into every single room. I really like games that reward you for doing that.

So just got to the Nalbina Dungeons or whatever.

So far my thoughts are this:

1. Balthier is awesome. Also he has the best voice I've heard yet.

2. Thank god for "Amolia" having her infinite stock of Potions and Phoenix Downs. I'd have been toast (literally( in our first Boss fight without her.

Now just a little question. Any suggestions on which Licenses to get Vaan?
I found a Longsword so I should probably try and get that License.

just an advice on the license board.. go for the augments first.. dont spend all license point on weapon, armors, accessories.. spend it on those things if think your equips are already to weak to use.. also reserve some for magics.. magicks...
