Hey there everyone

I made a post on my blog in which I graphed, and reviewed each chapter of the game in terms of story quality.

Before you view it, I'd like to preface that I did indeed thoroughly enjoy the game, I was just disappointed with certain parts of the story.

I would post the review here directly, but it's 6 pages long in word, so I'll just post a link to it. The graph is for both humor, and for anyone who doesn't want to read 6 pages.

I wrote this about 7 hours ago, and I now understand the plot much better thanks to some people explaining it to me on other boards. Having said that, I still stand by my scores, the game should do a better job of explaining things in certain parts.

Hoping to have some lively discussion about it here! Enjoy!

I'm just going to copy and paste what I posted there, all in spoilers, because there are MAJOR SUPER SPOILERS.... in fact, this should probably be moved to the spoiler section... anyway...
You know, I agree that the story really doesn't make sense at first. The more I thought about it, the more it made sense to me, anyway.

Barthandelus sent the l'Cie to Pulse so they would become stronger so they could turn into Ragnarok and kill Orphan. Now, for chapter 12, Snow is indeed stupid. I will agree there, as I facepalmed myself. Now, for Cid, he was revived by the fal'Cie, so he could be a leader while Barthandelus/Dysley was off, presumably leading the l'Cie to Orphan. Cid wanted his squad (what were they called again?) to kill him, because he didn't want to be involved with what he knew was the destruction of Cocoon. Now, this squad went to Orphan to destroy it, thinking that that would free Cocoon from the fal'Cie, unknowingly destroying it. The l'Cie wanted to save Orphan, because its destruction would, in turn, destroy Cocoon. Of course, this was all some fal'Cie plot, as Cid's squad would never really get to Orphan, and they were turned into Cie'th.

Now for Chapter 13, which is QUITE the doozy. They get to Orphan, and I'm assuming Barthandelus fights them because they force him to? I will agree that that part doesn't make sense. Anyway, point is, they are now trapped with Orphan, who will kill them if they don't kill him first. Of course, now they realize that should they let Orphan kill them, what would it accomplish? The fal'Cie would just make another group of l'Cie to kill Orphan, and someone would EVENTUALLY do it and destroy Cocoon. I guess they decided to take it into their own hands. They destroy Orphan, and Fang and Vanille turn into Ragnarok to SAVE Cocoon, rather than destroy it. They turn to crystal inside that giant crystal pillar, which is what is supporting Cocoon at this point. NOW, as for why the others got turned into humans from crystal... well that isn't quite clear. Apparently Vanille gained the ability to revive them. I've also seen that since the fal'Cie were essentially in shambles with the destruction of Orphan (the power source for the head fal'Cie, or Eden), so everyone who was crystal became human again.

Again, very convoluted, but I almost enjoy trying to sort everything out. I COMPLETELY understand your opinion, but I, personally, quite enjoyed the story.

Hey, thanks for the comment! Glad you liked the review, I've found that about 1/3rd of people disagree with me and yell at me (on other forums =P ), 1/3rd find it to be funny and chuckle a little, and the other 1/3rd agrees with me xD

I only read the part about chapter 13. Friggin hilarious. That's what I thought right after I beat the game, but have been slowly working out the bits and pieces, rewatching cutscenes, and figuring out the story so now it's not as confusing as before. But still, SE could've done a lot better job of explaining it all.

I'll go ahead and stick this to the Spoilers Discussion. =]

great review, actually i wanted to write something similar in short but was to lazy.
I agree with pretty much everything, good job.

And for those who disagree and explain the weird ending. You probably can find some explanation for everything if you just try hard enough but this doesnt make the ending better, well written or less boring. It was just somewhat unappealing to me. I didnt even care for the chars anymore after chapter 9.

I actually really enjoyed that. The cynicism and random comparison to other shit games reminded me of another friend who would do cynical reviews of okayish games. :Awesome:

I cannot express the joy you brought me. In the Ch.13 overview I almost died of laughter (espicially after the "Hope's depression" part) But I do agree with a lot of your thoughts.
