No. and I have a few points behind it...
1. THINK OF THE MONEY THE RESTAURANTS WILL LOSE, NOT SERVING THEM!? (lul, I had to put that as number 1)
2. Seriously, though... think of all the people that would be kicked out... Supposedly 30-something percent of the U.S.A is obese. There are a number of families where only one or two family members are obese. Thus, the restaurants would also lose customers that AREN'T obese.
3. It's somewhat a step to socialism. I'm sure we don't wanna be another Stalin-esque society.
4. I think they should just make restaurant foods healthier. Then, it's just their own fault they're freaking obese still.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a bit overweight, myself, but I'm at least doing something about it... People that don't annoy me...

This was brought up in my Criminal Law class tonight. My Professor is a lawyer, and he was rather pissed off by this.
He is absolutely certain it will never get passed, and if it does, you can kiss the economy of Mississippi goodbye.
Why it won't pass and never should:
1.) Restaurants would lose SO much money because of this. They love purposely obese people, for obvious reasons.
2.) Can you imagine the amount of money that would need to be put in to enforce such a law? Not to mention the time spent, and the cops called in when angry obese people fight with restaurant workers.
3.) What about families where maybe two of the five members are obese, but the rest are skinny? Should restaurants turn them all away?
4.) Obese people would just pay off someone to go in and get the food for them.
5.) Do you know how much money has already been wasted on this? Three legislators presented a bill. A bill typically consists of over 150 pages of legal bull shit. So, thousands and thousands of dollars have gone into paying for these people's salaries, for the time they spent on this insipid bill. -Shakes a fist.-
It's the most idiotic idea I've ever heard in terms of treating obesity. How about, oh, you know, educating kids in schools about proper nutrition? Or spending more money on public gyms and the like. Not to mention, Mississippi has quite a large impoverished population, whose diets mainly consist of cheap, high-fatty fast food.
If Mississippi wants to help obesity, there's a lot of other things that could be done, besides destroying the food economy.

But I would say that this should not pass. It's bad enough that they have banned smoking from resturaunts in some states, and now overweight people? If someone wants to eat high fattening food and they are already over weight, well it's their health and not mine. I'll just request a booth with my back facing them.

Dear lord, no way should this be a law!
I mean sure, as people have pointed out, it *is* only there for the good of people's health, but at the end of the day, it's personal choice. If people want to destroy their bodies then by all means let them, it's not like there aren't enough health warnings about. And if somebody wants to eat and WANTS to be big (because I know that there are some who like being morbidly obese) then they have every right to.
It is quite sickening to think that such greed exists though given that there are many people in the world who are starving, but it's not as if the restaurants are wrapping up the food that the fattys don't eat and sending it to third world countries. =/ At the end of the day, people have money to do what they like with, and if they want to indulge if massive food binges then who are we to stop them? Some people spend thousands, even millions of pounds/dollars/euros whatever, on clothes, and whilst this can still be seen as greedy, you don't see retailers refusing to sell them clothes because they have 'too many'. If anything, they will be glad to make all the commission. Anyway, that was kind of off-topic though as this issue is more related to health than anything, but I was thinking more of the greed side of things there...
Mmm, in Scotland (and I think all of Britain has done this now) smoking in public places has been banned for a good few years now. I think that this is a good idea though, because of the effects of passive smoking and all, and the fact that cigarettes smell revolting and many people do not want to be around that when they are trying to eat or whatever. >.<

I agree with the government banning smoking in public places. Smoking is not just a choice that affects the person who smokes. Second hand smoke is hazardous to people's health. The government isn't interfering because they want to take away smoker's rights; they're interfering to protect the health of others. I agree with this. Why should someone suffer the ill effects of smoking because someone else has made a poor life choice?
As for the law, obviously the lawmaker did not think this law would pass. I think that's explicitly clear. It's clearly a violation of rights. The lawmaker used such an extreme piece of legislation to draw attention to a growing problem...a very effective method, I think. Whether I think the law should be passed is sort of irrelevant because I don't think it was meant to be serious. It was meant to grab attention.
...As for the supermodel thing...supermodels are not supposed to be the ideal woman. Supermodels are simply tall and thin hangers for designer clothes. It's much easier to design for a tall and thin person with no curves. That's why really absurdly thin girls are used. No one ever said that was the 'ideal.' I'd say celebrity bodies are more of the ideal, which I think is fine. Most celebrities look like they're in excellent physical shape. That's much healthier than being grossly overweight.

Smoking is banned everywhere here apart from outside & in your own home here. Although at first I thought it was gunna cause chaos it wasn't that bad, people seem to be smoking less especially if they need to stand outside in the rain which is always a good thing I guess
But this law is pretty stupid, the economy would fall apart. People would just stop going out. We all have fat friends/family members so they would just end up eating at home

Eh, no. Should not be passed. What people put into gobs is their own business, and if it's heading them down the road to obsessity and heart failure, so be it. It's not like the world has to worry about trying to build the population.

Bah Fat ppl need to stop eating like smokers should stop smoking I wouldn't mind having a law for your health at all but still I say it is personal choice. If smokers want to kill themselves then let them kill themselves if fattys want to keep eating and die it's their choice. Self control and learning a healthy life style is work but if your lazy then you won't do it.

The Biggest Loser is a show that I have never watched but know it's fat ppl discovering a healthy life style I would not be suprised if some of these ppl's familes were as fat as them and they come home fit and in shape
the disease for laziness is laziness he disease for fatness is laziness the disease for not learning and not paying attention in school is ADD/ADHD which is what I like to call... disintrest in things you don't care about
it's all about choices you know? We have the right to drink ourselves until oblivion just like we can smoke ourselves to death or eat until fatter then budha... If ppl want to let themselves become blobs that's their choice a stupid choice of course but W/E I can guess a good percentage are stupid as it is.

On the side of human rights though definitely not it's wrong to dictate ppls personal lives and on eating it's their choice to eat what they want I mean I like the way Pizza tastes D: don't take that away from me >__< And what about the occasional burger I don't want it to taste different If I wanted that I would have taken the grease out myself >.< *obvious lulz on this and probably contradicting* I like being able to do something fat once in awhile. Like taking the last BBQ rib or eating the rest of the ice cream after having some an hour ago. But I do it once in awhile. Everyone has a fat moment I would hope.
No I'm not fat, never been fat, hopefully never will be fat. If I start to get chubby it's gym time every time I gain unwanted weight *rare* I get a gym membership card until it's gone. And I feel like I am not carrying extra. Sometimes my regualr exercise isn't enough you know? Walking, running, occasional spontaneous push ups sit ups etc.

Well, point there is that if somebody was unhealthily skinny then eating would be a *good* thing, so yeah, I assume that they would be allowed in. But you're right though about the 'where do we draw the line' part, hence why it is a silly and unfair rule which should never become a law.
I meant people who appear really skinny, but have clogged up arteries, etc. They assume that all obese people are greedy and gluttonous, also. Definitely unfair, I would personally kick whoever put it forward in the nuts if it ever became law.

Laws are supposed to help society and provide rules for which people think the act of doing it is wrong. A few areas are debatable (no one would speed if everyone thought it was completely wrong...), but on this, its just silly. Obesity is a problem, yes, but this is discrimination. I know I live in England, so its not exactly the same, but over here, this would be a breach of human rights.

It shouldn't be a law in my opinion, people have freedom of choice, if they want to eat, then let them. It's really none of your concern about their health, it should be left up to everyones own personal choice and decisions.
I only skimmed, but it looked like even the maker of the bill didn't think it should be a law. I love cracking on obese people as much as the next guy but I also love to eat. If I wasn't so young I'd probably weigh 50 more pounds than I do now. It's funny to talk about, but of course something like that shouldn't be a law.
