Should FFXIV Be a MMORPG?

Ok since there isnt a FFXIV section yet ill make this thread here as it seems to be the most logical place to put it.

Apparently - it is rumoured or has been confirmed, that FFXIV would be an MMORPG - like FFXI

Do you think that it should be?

personally i think no.

we already have FFXI out there and they could keep releasing new expansion packs for that. it already sucks that they made XI a numbered one - they shouldnt make XIV a numbered MMORPG as well -_-
 
I don't see a point in making XIV a mmorpg since they already have XI. I dont play mmos anyway so I would want a regular final fantasy to play.
 
Absolutly not! If they even began thinking of that idea I hope SE have some extra strong ducktape, cos they would get penetrated to oblivion if such a thing came to fruitation >_<
 
Aaaah, nooo. There's already XI. We don't need another one. :( I mean, don't get me wrong, I think MMORPG is fun, but I just don't like the idea because usually you have to pay in order to play it. Some of us just don't have that kind of money, you know? So no, I really don't think it should be an MMORPG.
 
No. I want it a regular RPG.

However, for the PS3, there is no monthly pay to play online games, so FFXIV may be...fee-free? Ya never know. Squenix may charge a monthly fee like they did for the PC version, but the PS3 won't make ya pay it.

I still say though, keep it offline.
 
Hell no! Why do they have to make another online game? One was more than enough. And besides, although i own FFXI, i can't play it (useless computer). If they have to make another online game then it definitely shouldn't be numbered. XI shouldn't have been numbered either.
 
Nnnnooooo...... Please no. I can just see it now, $60 or more for the game & another $20-30 a month just to play it online. Bad Idea! :mad:
 
Yea, I've heard about this. They announced the possibility way back when FFXI was released. It's always my quip about FFXI... when they first announced it people bitched and moaned so much that SE came out and promised that FFXII would not be an online experience. They got that much bad press about it. Then when November rolled around and they released the game, everyone loved it. They came out a few days later saying that there was a good possibility that FFXIV would be an MMORPG.

Honestly, if they fix the major major problems in FFXI, I'd probably be alright with it. I hate playing with other people though. They'd have to become a leader in the MMORPG market, which is something they're not doing. But if they made it, I'd play it.
 
More people have access to consoles then the internet I think, so I say no to it being an MMORPG :/
 
Oh no! I accidently said yes! I ment no! Another MMPORPG would be a bad idea. I don't htink a MMPORPG should be numbered Final Fantasy. I said this on another board but they should have called their mmporpg Final Fantasy Online. Then they could make all the expansions they wanted to it.

And for people that had XI and want to switch to XIV, XI will have been a waste of money for them.
 
No, no way. Surely SE have learned there lesson about MMORPGs by now? After all FFXI = Fail. They should stick to what they're good at.
 
I totally agree with the general consensus on this Board - SE should have learnt there lesson on MMORPGS with FFXI - MMORPGS = ANGRY FF fans = less money for greedy coperate executives.

And i agree with Rydia - t would be unfair to their FFXI customers.

And Rydia - im sure a mod will change your vote to no if you ask them :)
 
I feel like making a Pat Buchanan joke...

I'm not sure if the game would flop. I'd buy it and play it, like I did FFXI. I probably just wouldn't like it unless they fixed a lot of the problems. But even though the vast majority of FF fans hated FFXI, a lot of MMORPG players did like it. I believe this was a point of discussion in a FFXI topic actually. The game wasn't made for us, it was for MMORPG players. :/

EDIT: Why'd I even attempt the reference? lol No one is going to get that joke... :(

Same here - I don't exactly have a stable source of income, being a college student, and neither did I when the game came out.
If SE did make FFXIV an MMORPG, I think I'd lose all respect for them - just release expansion packs or game patches for any bugs that might crop up.
 
90% of the reason i play FF is because of the gripping story and the character development. In my experience with MMORPGs they lack both of these and instead focus more on leveling up and weapons.
 
FFXI was critisized because it was MMO and wasn't really considered apart of the main series. I have heard talks of an MMO coming out or maybe as part of FFXIII but I'm sure the producers said that it wouldn't be a repeat of FFXI.

Just think if they made FFXIV an MMORPG they would alienate a LOT of fans...again. they already have XI and they should just keep expanding on that....or make it a one off fee ^_^
 
Nothing wromg with making an MMORPG but just call it FF Online and not part of the main series.
