Did anyone else notice that in every single new game sephiroth is in... his outfit is altered? Whether it be major, or miniscule. Why do they feel the need to change him every time? Are they really all that insecure, or do they feel like he is incomplete? Just wondereing.

Well they didn't change him in Dissidia, from his FFVII garb. I don't think at least, it can be hard to compare and contrast with all of those blobby pixels.

With Kingdom Hearts, they changed most, if not all looks of the Final Fantasy characters. I think Sephiroth's look was the same in Crisis Core. They probably change up outfits to give the characters a more fresh look, so everything doesn't look the same. Maybe it would have been slightly more blah in Advent Children if Cloud and co. had all the same outfits from two years prior. Then again, I don't think Vincent or Yuffie's outfits have ever changed. Except Vincent's robe went through a chainsaw factory prior to Dirge of Cerberus apparently.

Anyway. Strangely enough it seems Sephiroth looks damn good and scary no matter what he's wearing.

Nah... he had way more beads and jewelery on in dissida... and in crisis core he has the little materia slots... I didn't see those in Advent Children... maybe its just me.

You can actually see materia slots? o_O

Maybe I just don't pay all that close attention to the minor things in their attire. I get a general look and I'm good to go. I noticed a difference in his alternate costume in Dissidia though! Cause, you know...he's not wearing a top. >_>

Is there one where you think he looks best in? I personally liked him best in Crisis Core/Original Dissidia outfit. It just seems like quintessential Sephiroth to me. The other ones, like from Kingdom Hearts or Advent Children looked more like different variations, trying out a different look. I may have to do some research on the One Winged Angel thing, I never got where the wing came from.

I definitly like the crisis core one best. I thought the beads in the Dissidia one were a little too much... I mean, he was fine the way he was. There was no need for changes... and as for the whole shirless thing: Two words Fan Service. Ha ha... but I'm not a sephiroth fan girl. Maybe thats why I'm pretty... annoyed(?) that they spend so much time and add little details to him each time he makes even the slightest appearance.

Well he probably is one of, if not the most popular Final Fantasy character. He probably takes either first or second to Cloud.

XD I suppose fan service is a part of it. I mean, its obviously harking back to the final scene in FFVII where Cloud takes him on solo. But I'm sure shirtless, toned Sephy gets his fair share of fangirl squeals. It's funny, even though he isn't my favorite villain, he's the only one I fight in Dissidia that actually scares me a little. Especially if One Winged Angel is playing. You just know hell is gonna come. Plus every single one of his quotes are so cool and badass. Even when he loses he still has that cold expression. Cheers to his voice actor for still giving me shivers.

The thing is, they do this with nearly every character to appear in multiple games. Pretty much every character to appear in Advent Children gets a different outfit. Yuffie gets different outfits in Kingdom Hearts and Dirge of Cerberus. Cloud and Squall both get different outfits in Kingdom Hearts as well. Most of the Dissidia characters get slight costume alteration. So... I guess it's just for fun, you know?

I have to admit I never really noticed too many differences between the outfits of Sephiroth. I think the original (FF VII) and Advent Children? were probably the best, but this is probably because I am used to these and after having played FF VII through quite so many times, it just seems right.

i never really thought it was bad didnt they do that with every ff7 character though.....? and i never really paid attention to the tiny details of sephy

It's nothing important whatever the changes are anyway. I hardly pay attention or notice it. In fact, I didn't notice any visible Materia slots on him at all in Crisis Core. They can't change Sephiroth's clothing too conspicuously, as much as I'd love to see him cross dress! When SE's various teams go over Sephiroth's design, they're bound to edit slight things just like how occasionally you might change something on a piece of art or drawing you have done, perhaps to improve it.

The reasoning behind it is quite simple: each game designer wanted to put Sephiroth in their own light... their own style..

i fully agree with that last post it is all about one thing - ego. every time someone draws something unoriginal they tend to change something slightly even if it isn't consciously. like when i draw Zachs(spell check?) buster sword i tend to draw it differently though anybody who has seen his sword can tell what i'm drawing

I think most characters will change slightly whenever they make an appearance in something new, whether it bit a game or film. It just varies what they look like and doesn't make them as bland and boring. In Kingdom Hearts he had to be changed to suit the whole style of the game, there's no other way about it. Also, whilst I agree that designers like to put their own ideas across, Nomura most likely directed all games that Sephiroth was in, even Advent Children, or was character designer at least.
