I don't know if this should go here or in FF fun.

Would anyone else want to see a reverse Final Fantasy romance were the female is the tough warrior character and the male is the kind hearted healer character?

I definently think it would be interesting to see and it would be different. And just because you are a tough chick does not mean you can't fall in love! :)

Unfortunantly, I don't think this will ever happen because FF and video games in general are more geared towards guys and I can only imagine all the complaints from male players :( Stuff like, "the main guy is such a fag! but the girl is hot."

And I only bring this up because in every video game that I have played, typically, if the main character is a male, he gets a hot babe at the end. If the main character is a female, she does not get any romance.

That would be interesting. I would love to see all different kinds of romances personally-- not just the same thing over and over as we are used to. This includes gay characters, romances between older, more mature characters (ie not teenagers), the example you mentioned with the sterotypical roles reversed etc

But very, very few of these are likely to happen-- for two reasons:

1. The target audience. They want big manly man with the sweet girl. And even though Sqeenix occasionally steer away from this (Lightning) in the same game there is usually another pair to make up for it (Serah and Snow), or they pair the strong, independant woman up with a man anyway (Lulu, Tifa).

2. Fear. They feel audiences are not yet ready for certain relationships (homosexual ones specifically) and are scared to lose fans or not sell due to the romances being too different to what the core audience wants (most males want a big strong warrior man to get the hot, but kind hearted girl-- because they want to imagine this as themselves).

The day I see a bad-ass, but feminine, wairrior type female openly have a crush or relationship with another female-- I'll eat my hat (not my beanie mind you, I love that hat), but I'll be very happy.

And as for the role reversal relationship, I think a relationship like that could be really adorable! I know of a few like that in real life-- and there tends to be more equality in relationships of this type-- and the man is less likey to actually believe and try to adhere to soceities bogus rules about what a man should be, what a woman should be, how the relationship is 'supposed' to be, how a man feels about a woman and vice versa (ie guy is the protector, woman is emotional wreck head over heels in love, stupid bitch type >> ) etc.

In an FF game I think it could be adorable, provided the characters themselves are good.

I would to see that too Rydia.

A outspoken girl falling in love with the shy guy would be the relationship in Final Fantasy yet

I think that we should have this type of relationship because it shows how every relationship is different

It could happen, by my estimation FF has become more accomodating of the girl gamers in recent titles. (X-2, XII, XIII)

Am I the only one who felt a bit of a
forbidden love
thing going on between soldier girl
Lightning
and
Snow
?

:hmmm:

What about a relationship that doesn't quite work? Can't work even?

FFVII had that with the whole love triangle plot and I thought it was awesome.

They keep feeding us this happy ending stereotype nonsense that becomes more and more cringeworthy.

Throw a death in. A married man/woman. These days from the moment you realise two characters are more than just friends you know its gonna work out.

And for God sake stop the groaning and get proper voice actors. :rage:

Ohhhh that is the kind of stuff I am into. I get sick of seeing the whole nice innocent girl and the big tough dude and what not. (I know that sounds a little creepy). But I think that would be a very clever idea. Although Pain and Lulu seem to fit that description. :)

Call me crazy but if he were a few years older, I thought that a relationship between
Lightning and Hope
could have been cute. And I know several people just gagged reading that XD It would have been the innocent guy with the tough girl. And my mind made random chemistry between the two of them when it was just the two of them. It would have definently been different.

I'd really love to see a game where the tough girl gets a guy and the kind hearted girl remains single through out the game by choice and is happy to stay that way.

Just look at every FF game. If the main character is a guy he gets a girl, if the main character is a girl (Terra and Lightning) she doesn't get any love :(. (Vaan does get Penelo) I dunno it'd be nice to see a lead girl fall in love. And I like that the two characters are single, Terra's character would have been ruined if she had a lover imo. But I don't like that the two main characters in the main series since IV that didn't get a love interest are woman :( Although, did anything ever happen between Bartz and Lenna?

I also want to see the hyper girl get a guy! In the main series, Yuffie, Selphie, and Rikku are pretty much asexual as far as anyone can tell. I don't count X2 as part of the main series so Rikku and Gippel don't count for this.

And like someone else mentioned, I'd like to see a married couple, preferably the main guy and girl.

Maybe FF XV!

To me it kind of felt like Rosa and Cecil were as good as married in IV. They started out together, stayed together through the whole thing, and their only arguments had to do with whether or not it was safe enough for Rosa to follow Cecil around everywhere. I had no doubt at any point that they would end up together--even when Kain showed an interest in Rosa, she didn't seem to even really react to it that much (though I haven't gotten there yet in the DS version :hmmm:).

I do think it would be cool to see a couple that was at least equal, if not a complete role reversal. If they had played up Rydia and Edge more in IV this might have happened, because she is a tough chick. Or Anna and Edward--he certainly wasn't a manly man, but we don't really know much about her :hmmm:

Yes that's why I love Cecil and Rosa. They were already a couple before the game began. We did not have the cliche love at first sight going on. And even though they did not have as much development as characters in the later games, they felt the most real to me as far as their romance goes.

Rydia and Edge was unfortunantly one sided.

Steiner and Beatrix were more equal as far as skill goes. They were both Generals of Alexandria and I loved when I got to use the two of them together.

There was also Wakka and Lulu but I didn't care too much for them because they felt thrown together and Lulu was supposed to marry Wakka's older brother.

Personally,I would love that. The oppurtunity to see the guy fall in love with the girl would be good too. A slightly more mature Hope-esque character falling in love with the tough female character along the lines of Fang and Lightning would be fantastic.

Yeah I agree, although lets not lose sight of the fact that whiney isn't a substitute for sensitive and caring. :hmph:

Vanille
and
Hope
had a bit of a thing going on but it didn't warm my heart because
Hope was moan-prone
and
Vanille was overly enthusiastic about everything
:gonk:

I thought the unspoken relationship between Fran and Balthier was quite charming, and I felt she carried the tough female character quite well. She had her moments of weakness and both characters were hawt. :)

Bring on a proper hero, the gender doesn't matter. One whose personality is well layered and thought out, whose motives don't just revolve around one person they feel compelled to save. A hero whos up to the challenge, not a prancing nymph who takes seemingly impossible tasks into their stride.

...and give them a worthy love interest.

I think they would make a cute couple myself-- but not just because they hugged. o_O Friends hug all the time, espeically if seperated for a while. The skirt looking was just to check her mark.

...but anyway-- I do ship them, I guess lol.

That WOULD be interesting ... but I don't think I'd like that. xD

Call it cliché, but I actually like the fact where the leader is male, (or female this doesn't matter really) but where they support each other in the Male/Female ways.

I always liked the fact of female characters having that male character to protect them, but are perfectly fine on their own two feet, and to handle their own business.

That's just it for me. xD

Hell no. Maybe I'm just biased because I'm male, but I don't want to see that. Nor do I think this will be done in the near future. Heck, just look at all of Square's leads. They're either cool (Cloud) or childish (Zidane/Tidus/Vaan).

The problem with this is, as you've said, most FF fans and fans of video games in general are male. Males tend to prefer masculine characters. This is further evidenced by the fact that most of the people who responded to this thread in a positive way was female.

As for me, personally, as Colours mentioned, I prefer males that protect their girls. My favorite females are always the ones who can "stand on their own two feet" having the ability to protect themselves.
