Rep Power vs Reputation

LOL its exactly what EMMA states.. and besides dont question a magical mod please -__-

I fail to see how this is difficult to understand.
No, your rep is in your user CP. Your rep power is how many rep points you give to each person. That 107 is the effect it has on the other person's rep power. Not their rep.

:gasp:
Narf. I can't explain it. >.< All I can say is that when someone reps me, I definitely do not get 2000+ points.:gasp:

16264 point(s) total
You have 18927 Reputation point(s).

18927-16264= 2663 Points

Yup Princess, Emma and the magical Mod were right:
I gained 2663 points :)

I think its the 2000 that gets added is to Your reputation points and your power determines what phrase you get when you put the arrow ove rthe rep boxes. So 2000 plus to repuatation and not power.

So why does your rep power increase when you get repped?

If I were Jewish I would say Oi Vey, but I'm not so I won't.
Because part of what determines your rep power is your reputation.

I'm so glad I asked this question, because now everyone's gone around in circles trying to correct each other, and a straight answer hasn't been given. :monster:

Also, I'm still not seeing the hurt in making rep comments public. Unless people are blatantly repping other people for being complete douchebags and trolling/causing drama with others, then sure... But afaik this is a fairly drama free place. I know there'd be no harm in making my rep public, considering I just have comments for my sigs and some funny threads/posts I've made. -shrug-

No, Channy, it's just asses being too rude. :mokken: I still don't get why a person's rep power increases when they get repped. :mokken:

All right. Let me see if can break this down.

I have something like 60000 Reputation points. This, plus some other various factors, yields my rep power of 2330.

If I rep you, I add 2330 to your total Reputation points (viewable in your User CP).

The addition of more Reputation points into your total increases your rep power because it puts a bigger number into the formula that determines your rep power. In other words, more total Reputation points = more rep power.

Alright see THAT makes sense.

But Bubblegum was saying something about a lower number (her's was like, 107 or summat?) What is that determined by/what is it?

That's how much she makes a person's Rep Power increase by when she reps someone. Or, to put it another way, how much her Rep Power affects another person's Rep Power.

Oh I see. It was the messing up between Rep Power and Reputation...

FOUR PAGES LATER... and I finally get it now.

Whatever, rep is just a popularity contest. I've been here over 2 years and I've seen people with more blue squares than me who've only been here for 4 months (even less) >_>

EDIT: @Channy below: No, there have been plenty of other users that were newer after me and had more rep. I'm not mad about it, but the popular users are the ones that get repped. As other mentioned, sometimes it's just silliness that get's repped, so what does rep really matter than?

I wouldn't mind seeing the rep I distributed and what I said. :lew: Sometimes I can't remember who I repped or what I said to them in the rep box.

Honestly, I wouldn't want to see other people's rep notes. I get the feeling there some things I just really wouldn't want to see. Besides, it's their business anyways. Nobody knows what people have said to me when they repped me. There's nothing there that is R-rated per se, but still, it's my business. :hmmm:

I that case, since we won't be installing a hack to allow other people to see your rep and since you understand the situation now. Closed.
