Red Dead Redemption 2 is no doubt the most anticipated game of 2018. After five long years since Grand Theft Auto V and nearly a decade since the first Redemption, Rockstar is finally pulling the curtain off what looks to be their best game yet.

From intense, fluid gunfights to intimate moments with the Van der Linde gang, Red Dead Redemption 2 looks nothing short of breathtaking in the newly released six minute gameplay video which gives us an introduction to the stunning world of Rockstar Games’ western, Red Dead Redemption 2.

The year is 1899, the West is dying as civilization expands and the law begins to hunt outlaws. Dutch Van der Linde, his right-hand man Arthur Morgan, and their notorious gang of outlaws must pack up shop and go on the run. As you explore the dying West, you’ll be exposed to new activities such as hunting, camping, mini-games like gambling, and more.

You’ll also get into your fair share of gunfights in newly refined gunplay where Dead Eye makes a return. The melee combat has also been heavily reworked from previous Rockstar games to allow much more intense and realistic brawls rather than clunky fist fights like in GTA V or the original Red Dead.

Red Dead Redemption 2 also wants to allow players to define who their Arthur Morgan is. Is he a ruthless killer or a criminal with a heart of gold? It’s up to you to decide via new mechanics like the ability to threaten and interrogate civilians and anyone in your path. Now, enough talk. Just watch the gameplay video you all came here for.

The graphics look truly unbelievable. Captured from entirely in-game footage in 4K, Red Dead Redemption 2 is a real looker with insane lighting effects from the way the moonlight shines down and creates an almost silhouette of Arthur Morgan and the way the sun intensifies every scene. It’s clear that Rockstar Games has outdone themselves and Red Dead Redemption 2 will be worth the wait.

Red Dead Redemption 2 will be releasing on October 26th, 2018 for Xbox One and PS4.

I have to say that while I forgot this game was in development, I'm really happy it is coming out soon.

I loved the first Red Dead Redemption (and its zombie spin-off) and played it a lot, despite its flaws. The online play was not perfect because it did not have enough NPCs in it for it feel like an immersive world, but it was a lot of fun riding around with FFF members. I hope that this game has something similar, but vastly superior and improved.

As for the main campaign, I have confidence that it will probably be good. The outlaw gang concept seems like quite a different take.

I haven’t discussed this here since I got the game last Christmas. After taking a long break to deal with other things, I'm finally playing it more earnestly and I am loving it.

It is more than just a game as it doesn't encourage you to speed through the story. Rather it invites you to live through it for a time. It is very much a Wild West simulation. It feels like living in Westworld.

The world has a degree of such incredible detail that I don't think I've ever seen in a game before. The list of things you can do and interactions with objects and people have the appearance of being endless. I know there will be a limit to me finding new things eventually, but I don't think I've heard the same conversation twice on more than a handful of occasions. It has verisimilitude.

You need to take your time to get the most out of the game. I've still got loads to do and lots of things to find. I'm still on chapter 4, so I haven't completed the main story yet.

There are some things though that I’ve realised I messed up for good. The kidnapped young man in the gunsmith's basement in Rhodes is no longer there, yet I know it is possible to rescue him. I guess it took me too long to figure out how to get him out! I'm half sad, half impressed that the game must have finished him off 'off-screen' because I'd failed to be a good hero.

I try!

I do wonder whether anyone here has tried the online mode yet. If so, we should get a posse going and shoot up some towns and rob a few banks! I've heard you can actually use the lasso during online play now. In RDR1 nobody was allowed to use it. Now I can live out my dream of tying people up and putting them down on train tracks... Naughty people, I mean.
