I found that the best method was to get a few good Quickening chains. The trick is to take out one of your characters for another one with a Quickening after each chain, and then you can put together another one. That's how I did it anyway...
You're not supposed to fight the first one though. He's way too overpowered.
However with the second one, run straight up to him and start unleashing your most powerful attacks on him.
Keep an eye on the flames. you can turn them on to stop it's movement (or speed it up if you get it wrong. DON'T TURN ON MORE THAN ONE FLAME at the same position).
It buys you a bit of extra time.
A strategy I had was to use Oil on him and then start bathing him in Fires.
RUn from the first one cause it's stronger, fight the second one. Use the torch places on the side of the wall to stop it. I think you use the red ones, not the green flame ones... and just keep off the status effects it puts on you.
Use your quickening abilities first hand. Don't even bother healing your characters using gambits. It's too time-consuming. (Most likely they will be wiped out of the game anyway)...use Hi-potions instead if really necessary. Just keep attacking with your heaviest melee characters. The trick here though is the quickenings. Replace your characters if need be, just so you can use some more quickenings.
And good point with the torches. It's risky though, because if the flame extinguishes, the wall stops for a few seconds...so hopefully that would be the case. However, if the flame turns blue, the Demon Wall actually speeds up! Use it as a last resort...it's really up to you.
It actually took me a few tries to beat both Demon Walls. So be patient, don't give up! If you defeat the optional Demon Wall, you get a Demonsbane Sword! (For Vaan) Definitely worth it! (You have to go down a secret side sairs that lead to a treasure chest.)
To kill the first one, I trained a lot! But it was worth it because you get Demonsbane as Mitsuki says. But the second one, just attack like a normal boss, and turn the torches so it stops him then just beat him down, atleast, that's what I remember doing.
I know what a quickening is... sort of.
When fighting the Garuda - about an hour ago, I taught Fran the Feral Strike, used it and thought it was shit. I died, and decided not to re-learn it for the time being...
could someone please fill me in on quickenings in detail? As well as original question.
I'm still learning about them myself. They really work to your advantage if more than one person has one.
So far I have Balthier and Ashe with Quickenings. Basically when you first use it as Ashe (for example) then Balthier's name will come up beside the Triangle button. Press it, then Balthier will do his quickening and then you'll get a menu to choose from. A mist Charge gives you more seconds and then you get to choose again.
Press R2 to shuffle if you don't get a command that appears. It's hard to explain but they're useful in a sense.
Hmm, each character has 3 quickenings available to them. So that's like a total of 18 quickenings on the license board. Before I fought the Demons Wall, I got ALL of the quickenings, so it was kinda a cinch for me.
You might wanna consider unlocking a few more quickenings for your characters. It'll help out a lot. If you unlock a second and third quickening panel, that character will gain an additional Mist Charge, which is equal to the character's max MP. Now that's hot! In this way, you can double and triple the character's available MP. And we all know that the higher the MP, the better. It'll give you a chance to perform more quickenings.
Quickenings are kinda hard to explain. =/ But yeah, like SpyforShinra said, press the button that corresponds with the attacks. It's really all based on luck. If all are grey, keep pressing R2 and hopefully you can get an attack before the time runs out.
And I'm now stuck on the Ballium or whatever it is. Looks a bit like ifrit, in the same place. I've checked some FaQs, and they say just heal with Cura after firaja. I haven't go cura, and I've only one teleport stone. So, saving on another file, I went back to Rabanastre, and bought cura, and I'm trying to figure out how to get back... Any advice? Like, how to get a teleport stone, or a path back to that sandsea??
Yea, they sell them in the Rabanastre Wall market or whatever it's called. It's where you first saw Vaan, if you can remember that location. Basically go to where the magic shop is and walk across the bridge (directly opposite of the entrance to the sewer area)... then you're in the market district. Walk forward, past the teleporting moogle, hang a left... walk about half way through that section and on your left there will be a Bangaa selling stuff for Clan Centrino. He sells them. Not sure if you can buy them at this point though... but you should be able to.
Well you have to have some Quickening Chains to do that. Get some of those and chain them for a fast kill. After theres a chance of finding a Demonsbane!
