Why is it that in FF: Dissidia, Golbez comes and is on the side of Chaos?
At the end of FFIV he befriends Cecil and goes to sleep for a long time.*Spoiler* I know this is a different story and all but its just a little confusing. Also, my bad if I spoiled FFIV for anyone.

Admin edit: I've added spoiler tags in your post. :) If you are unsure how to use spoiler tags, all you have to do is this: [ spoiler ] insert text here [ / spoiler ] without the spaces. Hope that helps next time!

They also have Kuja instead of Necron and Jecht instead of Yu Yevon. It's not the final boss that is in Dissidia, but the character's adversary. Not all of the villains in Dissidia want to destroy the world either. It's the same characters in an alternative world, so the story from the original game isn't completely relevant.

Even though he is on the side of Chaos, Golbez is one of the "good" guys on Chaos. He doesn't want to seek ultimate destruction like Kefka, Ex-Death and Cloud of Darkness etc but he is seeking a way to resolve the conflict from within, just like the heroes are trying to do.

He
helps a lot of the heroes
during the course of the game too, even though many can't trust him easily because of him being sided with Chaos.

Basically I don't know why he joined it to begin with but perhaps he was recruited and they assumed he was still evil? I'm not sure, but he certainly
doesn't act evil in the game
. In fact people
get annoyed with him and label him a traitor for helping the side of Cosmos
.

I'm guessing that that means he is
wanting the conflict to end, and will help the side of good to achieve that while trying to ruin the plans
of the other villains.

Not all members of Chaos can be claimed to have the same agenda. There are very different agendas, and not all of them want to destroy everything.
