Playstation PSP Update Help

I just bought Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep. My PSP won't let me play the game until I install the update that comes with the game.

Problem: The update won't start until the PSP's battery is fully charged. My PSP's battery is messed up, and won't charge or takes a very long time to charge. Is there any way that this update can be installed in a way that allows me to do it without charging my battery? Or is it possible to skip the update all together?
 
I actually don't think there is, but I could be mistaken. Is your PSP still on warranty, or is there anyway that you could get a replacement battery? Also, have you tried just keeping your PSP plugged up to the charger? If it'll turn on while plugged up, then it should do the update.

My PSP's like five years old. Warranty's up. I also tried keeping it plugged into the charger. It still says that the battery is too low.
 
You can take your battery out, plug in your charger and it should allow you to update. Though it might brick. :hmm:

I'm going to ask it...have you modded your PSP in any way? This could be a problem too, but I think, if you didn't, its a problem with the board near the AC jack where the battery goes. :/

Does your PSP charge when plug into a PC? Try turning the option on and see if it charges when USB mode.
 
I hate how it does that :hmph: You're going to have to let it sit until it's charged up enough to install. It won't let you do it without a battery either for some strange reason. It's agonizing and a waste of time, but it's the only way. Unless media go installs it for you, but last I saw, it doesn't.
 
if u had custom firmware, you can skip the update alltogether... otherwise.. nope just wait for ur battery to charge or get a new one :hmph: i hate that feature of psp but i can see the reasoning behind it :grin:

I've tried just leaving my battery out and having just the AC adapter plugged in, but it still says the battery is low. I haven't modded my PSP in any way. If I can find my USB cable, I'll try charging it through the PC. :hmmm:

How do you get this custom firmware? Also, I understand that it probably doesn't want to be interrupted during an update because it may cause problems, but why do I NEED the update to play the game? D=

That would be a good idea. Damon had problems charging his through the AC adapter when he was streaming Dissidia about a month ago. Plugging it in through the USB cable made it work :yay:

I think I've lost my USB cord or left it back home. >_>

Is it possible to download the update off the internet and install it through the memory card?

Why? Because if it turns off during an update your PSP becomes bricked and sometimes completely useless. This way, its safe. :)

You can use any USB cord as long as one end can go into the PSP. I use a Camera USB as it functions better for my 2001. Post back if it doesn't charge your PSP.

And if that's the case, its a board problem. :/ Does the light go on when you plug the AC in? I know it doesn't charge, but if the light goes on that's a good sign.

Their extra precaution is making it impossible to play my game. :hmph:

I only had one USB cord that could fit in the PSP, and I'm pretty sure I left it back home, but I'm going to look around more before I buy a new one.

The orange light that comes on when the battery is charging only comes on only when the battery is in there a certain way. If I just put the battery in the all the way, the orange light turns to the green light, and the PSP doesn't recognize that a battery is in there.
 
Sounds like a connection problem with the connections on the battery :)
 
Yup, definitely sounds like a connection/board problem where the battery fuse is... if the USB port thing doesn't work, that's it. But if it does, its the AC jack port or your battery/charger.

unless u go in a repair shop and pay... no you could send it to sony and pay for them to fix it... but that about the only thing u could do :/
 
Yes, you can either send it in to be replaced after you find out its the problem, or buy the parts and replace it yourself. If you have warranty, Sony will fix it for you. But if you don't, the above. (But make sure its the problem first! And even before then, check the forums!)

I would suggest this forum for additional help. They are awesome. They helped me fix my PSP countless times.
