Prototype, Best game of the year? Discuss...

I for one have had more fun in this game just running around killing whomever and whatever than actually doing the story lines. Also the events, such as the jumpers and such, christ I don't think I've ever had this much fun.

This game takes the cake this year for my top game.


10/10 - A bit of biasness needed on this.
 
Ah someone else who has it! I bought it on Friday, and it's definitely worth getting.
I totally agree with you that the events and the free roam stuff are more fun than the actual story itself. The only events I don't like are infected patrol; I really struggle with those. D:
My only problem with it is that the cut scenes between missions are all very poor. There's no development to the story or anything with the characters. All you get is "this place/person is involved Alex." "Okay, I'll go there."
 
I agree, collecting webs and such are the only way to get the full story line down and of course those can be confusing.

The gameplay though has its advantages. I mean this isn't a RPG we are talking about so I'm not being harsh on the story line one bit. You can do just about anything you can think of in this game. I started it on medium, and to be honest I probably should of started on easy. I forgot I could consume bodies in order to get more health, and of course kept dying at that part with the infections.

Also yea, I do have trouble with that one event you mentioned. I don't know why, but I am not able to survive in the tank. I guess I'll find some trick to it eventually.

Also I don't know how critical mass works. I have achieved the blue bar or whatever it is, and tried to use my critical mass techniques and I get nothing.. Oh well, the gameplay at least beats all.
 
The order of collecting things for the web is annoying, because there just isn't one. :wacky: I keep getting random parts of the story and I'm getting lost. D: Although it is quite obvious what happened to him.

I've managed to get the hang of infected patrols now. The trick is to keep moving, and keep firing. Switch targets every few shots, and fire off a random shell every now and again. I managed to get about 350 kills, when the limit for gold was 280 or so.

It's best to think of the critical mass thing as like finisher moves on wrestling games. When your health is in the blue area, you use the moves you've bought through the upgrade menu. So far I only have one where you hold Y and B, but it kills absolutely EVERYTHING within a radius of Alex - even hunters.
 
Ummm well I just rented this game and I must say its a pretty good gane overall but its not something too exciting. Im not going to buy it. Yes it is fun but like its not something too great. Feel free to argue with me. The gameplay is like spiderman(bloody version) Exactly the same thing but more Violent like hell. Military alerts are not too great. Acheivements in this game are not so easy, only if its "too easy". Anyways I won't be getting prototype because I feel there are better games on my list. The walking up building thing is weird. Consuming is fun but gets boring. Unless you really need it or just for the achievements. Anyways Im not so crazy about it. The swearing makes me laugh though.

That's a good thing that achievements aren't too easy, I think. They aren't called "achievements" for nothing. There are a few that I know I'll never get, like all platinums on the events and going through the game without dying (already got 5 deaths on normal).
 
I just beat this game a few hours ago. One of the best games of 2009 in my opinion.
The story is somewhat mediocre but, the real glory is the side quests and collectibles.

I am now working on the Trail of Corpse achievement. I have never had so much fun grinding deaths in a video game.
 
Heh...I beat this game not too long ago, and lent it to a friend of mine in exchange for overlord 2. Once I get it back, I'm going to go after the Trail of Corpes (or was it bodies?) achievement/trophy. The storyline itself WAS pretty 2D, but I wasn't expecting too much. After playing inFamous before this, however, I felt *too* powerfull. The game was just too easy. I got the Hard To Kill trophy without any real attempt, as well as the Nice Guy one because civilian disguises are pretty useless <.>

Oh, and, whipfist ftw. :moose:
