Hey,
I'm having some trouble finding the place to buy Protectga. I've heard it's in the magic shop in Balfonheim but the old lady there doesn't have it. Does anyone know where it's run off to? XD

All FF Help threads should go here in the future ^^

Also, I think it appears at a certain point in the game, after sky Fortress Bahamut appears would be my guess.

You should be able to obtain this spell after completing the storyline within Giruvegan, and subsequent
Great Crystal
. It'll be on retail in said shop once this is complete.

OK, thanks for the info! ^_^

@Lurid: Oh~ That's my problem then. I wanted it FOR Giruvegan. Oh well. :/

Well in the meantime, Protect should serve well. Giruvagen really isn't difficult compared to the likes of The Pharos.

Heh ^_^;;

Yeah I just re-arranged their Gambits so they auto-cast protect. I hope that works out ok. Seems to be fine atm.

Always set raise/arise with ally: any for your first gambit. Then healing, then buffs. Then attacks! Unless you don't use buffs. But, yes, Protectga is useful, if you have everyone pitching in. Otherwise, lure & reverse on the attacker, and don't heal that person!! I did that once, and I lost. Although, the niha... nihapal... nihilap... Oh, hell, someone tell everyone that weird accesory only available from the Clan Centurio bazaar vendor. You use remedies on the opponents with those, and you give them a whole range of statuses. Easier than using magic, anyway. Or magick. Your choice.

I wouldn't create a gambit for Protectga unless you're fighting a difficult rare game/boss. Lure/reverse isn't cost convenient in terms of MP; it lasts for eight or so seconds. Its only use is against Yiazmat and Omega Mark XII.

^ And the accessory you're talking about is called the Nihopalaoa, and yes, its very useful against troublesome enemies. Unfortunately, it appears rather late in the game, so you won't make too much use out of it.

i found it extremely useful especially after obtaining a sages ring to half my Spell caster's MP cost

Raise/Arise first? Does that do like an auto-raise like in DOC or something? And what exactly does reverse do? I keep seeing that pop up in-game.

Say if you set the first gambit to "Ally: Any - Raise/Arise" as soon as someone's HP falls to 0, one of your party will revive them.

Reverse switches damage to heal and vice versa. So if you cast reverse and got hit, it will heal you, if you cure yourself, you'll damage yourself. Can be usefull if you use it with "Decoy" (so the enemy will only attack the decoy character and because he/she has reverse cast on them, they won't take any damage)

Indeed ^
In case you didn't know, the gambits are chronologically in order, in terms of overriding another gambit if they both require the same conditions to trigger the outcome. Say if you placed - 'Ally: HP > 20% - Curaga' in the second slot, then place this in the third - 'Ally: HP > 30% Cura', if your HP falls below 20%, only Curaga will be activated. If however, you switch them around, Cura will override Curaga. With this in mind, you could set up complex gambits which may help you further. Most people don't actually know that they can override one another if one is placed further up.

Yeah, I do that with my healing gambits all the time but I had this notion that if Raise/Arise was connected to 'Ally: Any' that it would just do it randomly. I didn't know it would wait for the conditions needed for that item to work the best. Interesting.

'Ally: Any' only applies if you have triggered what the corresponding action will do. For instance, if you create the gambit - 'Ally: Any - Cure', whenever you take damage, you automatically use Cure. However, if you switch Cure with Arise/Raise, whenever you die, you use Arise/Raise. Its useful with spells on a small scale.

I myself use ' Ally Status: KO - Arise'. No particular reason, just I think its suitable.

Nah, say for example you put "Ally: Any - Cure" as a gambit, no matter how much damage anyone took, straight away they'd cure, but they won't if your HP is full, so in that respect it's the same as spells like protect, if you set it as "Ally: Any - Protect" it'll only be cast when someone doesn't have protect on them.

Same with Esuna, set that to "Ally Any - Esuna" it will only be cast when a status effect is inflicted (that esuna can cure). It won't just be randomly cast over and over again.

Same with raise/arise/shell/haste etc.

EDIT: Gabranth beat me to it lol.

I used to use Ally status KO too, but I used ally: any today and it workd extremely well. They seem to start casting as soon as the person takes that last hit... which is faster than I can react. XD Thanks for the tips. It works out really well... it doesn't help that I'm level 38 fighting monsters a lot higher than me atm, though. XD
