The Distance Between Us

I want to feel you in my arms
I want to hold you
I want to feel that eternal bond we share
The love that we have for each other

Oh the times I imagine you by my side
I think of the pleasant moments we can share
The glorious things we could do
The secrets we can share to each other

When I think of you, I look up in the night sky
Hoping that somewhere along that sky, you are there looking up at the same star as I am.
I hope that even if we are far apart, no matter the distance
We can always find each other through our love and the happiness we share

Babe, even if our love will go out sometimes, I will always stay true to you
I will never let you down, nor will I be untruthful
I will be honest with you as long as you promise me one thing
Never stop loving me, do that
And my love for you will stay lit
It will light, like a ever-burning candle with eternal flames.

The distance between us is just a number
Our love is endless, and it cannot be measured by numbers
This is truly how I feel about you
There is no end for my love for you.
Even if we are torn apart
Or even if you move far away from me, I will always love you until the end of time.
That is the true distance between us.

For the Love of His Boy

He loved having children
The everlasting feeling of completion
Nothing to complain about,
Nothing in life he didn’t have.
He always wanted a son you see
When it came to tears though,
That raw emotion that is frowned upon
In males, he didn’t know what to do
He didn’t know how he would react.
With two daughters, he knew what to do
To sit there on the bed, holding them close
Wiping their tears away
And shedding a few of your own as well
Was fine, they didn’t mind.
But with a boy, he didn’t know.
When he was growing up, crying
Was not a boy thing. Shedding tears,
Was a childish reaction if ever.
To sit there, and see his son cry,
He didn’t know if he could hold
Back his own tears. He didn’t know
If he could follow what he was taught
Or break down at the sight of his boy.
He loved his girls, and he loved his boy
He hugged his girls when they cried, and yet...
He remembered when he saw his son cry
Tears welling in the boys eyes, screaming
And He heard him cry, saw him cry
But he had no time to react
For the baby boy, died…

The Fine Line Between Love and Hate

Waking up in the morning to the feeling of love
With the right person, the feeling fits like a glove
Knowing I’m with a person that feels like mine
Gives me the feeling of being on Cloud Nine
Whenever I get the chance to see that smile

It’s something that seems to last a while

It’s a wonder why she did what she that

My feelings felt like that had fallen flat
Seeing someone else enter their life

The feeling made me want to pick up the knife

When new feelings come and go

It all makes me feel awfully low

Now I realize I’m single once again
I can only imagine what I will find then

My love found new feelings to create

There’s a fine line between love and hate

Fickle Framed Flames

I don’t know how I feel
Love, such a fickle thing
A burning flame that seems to burn strong for one
And then another
A light on a candle
That is submerged in a dark river
Far in a cave
Solitary
Solitude
Each candle burns for another
Each candle protects itself
Each candle lives under that dark river
And the destroyer of the flame is myself
Not the water
Oh, fickle framed flames
I need you now
To burn stronger than you had before
Because you guided me further into this cave
And left me with no way out
And now I stare at the spot where you had once been strong
Staring at the dark river
With no way out.

Unconditional

I shiver from your cold, perfect touch
One look into your violet eyes and it’s all to much to bear,
How do you go on when the other one could be
Lingering in the background just to stop and stare?
You give me that wicked, crooked smile
My favourite one, the one you charm me with,
You give me a heartfelt kiss that I’ll cherish
I cry, knowing you are more than a myth.

I would have died in your place before
Allowed myself to succumb to an untimely death,
But how can I love you when it might not really be you?
I allow you to touch once more, to sense what is left.

I open my eyes, knowing I love you
When loving the other is also a sin.

I was once a flightless bird, a worthless cockroach
The one that was trouble and strife,
Then you came along, the mysterious and violet-eyed one
The one that would bring me to life.

Even so, we used each other like a drug
Yet I could not deny my unconditional, unrequited love,
Since you were the only one that could understand
And be my shining beacon of light from above.

We’ve been through many difficult times together
We’ve confronted the other side, right?
It’s my turn to do my part of the done deal
I’ll be your beacon this time, an even stronger light!
However, you once said we’d never be apart
You’d keep on fighting your inner demon for me,
And still even I couldn’t resist that part of you
Which is why it’s something you may not yet see.

#3 I enjoyed specifically because it brought me to a new place while reading it. It was very descriptive, yet lonely at the end. Great job.

I voted #5, Unconditional. I like poems which are written according to certain rules (like rhyme or rhythm) and some kind of twist/change in the last part. Poem number 5 fullfills both conditions (also props for #3, which would be my runner up :) ) and adds some words that aren't used a lot in normal conversation (at least in my experience as a non-native English speaker) which I think is a good thing for poems as it adds a little extra. Good job!

Bah, I'm reading through them, and I'm not sure which I'm going to vote. I honestly thought I would see more poems considering the topic, but it didn't turn out that way. I will think on it more, read through them again and I'll edit my vote in this post.

Edit: Went with "The Distance Between Us". I thought it had some quality points about love itself, it caught my attention. Excellent work everyone! :ryan:

I went with Unconditional.

Lovely poem.

Very detailed and descriptive and I'm certain it's about some guy/girl who has a dark side that they can't control and the other person still loves them unconditionally, or it's about two people cheating with each other on their loved ones?

I'm half asleep and read through it a few times and that's what I got from it. >_<

The Distance Between Us - On a more positive and inspiring light. I really like it - simply written but touches the heart all the same.

For the Love of His Boy - A different kind of love that is quite understandable. The writer really explores the feelings of a father and his love for his son which he wish he could show but was too late. Really touching.

The Fine Line Between Love and Hate - Short and simple but descriptive enough.

Fickled Framed Flames - Not only do I love the catchy title, but I really got into the creative short lines and tone of the whole poem. Probably one of the best love poems I've read in awhile. There is a dark and mysterious message about love, almost in a desperate plea.

Unconditional - This is also extremely good. Descriptive and creative as well, really well-written. It's quite sad since it also gives that realistic message about love, and how it can really tear a person apart and feel worthless due to unfortunate circumstances.

It was a very tough choice between Unconditional and Fickled Framed Flames. Both are very well-written despite the differences with each other and quite honestly, I keep switching minds between the two poems and whether I should vote for this or that...I wish I could vote for both. =/ But after reading it a few times, I finally went with Fickled Framed Flames due to dark message it conveys and the suspense from the beginning until end. The short and one word lines really added in to the mix to create that unique and creative message. There's just something about the poem that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Congratulations to Faith for winning POTM #2!! Great entries from you all! :) Looking forward to the next one.
