Please explain me the ending

Hello! I'm confused with the ending of this game. Rinoa holds Squall (dead?) and just cries hugging her body, and then all of a sudden it's light everywhere and she looks at Squall and is amazed looking at him (don't know why). Then Laguna & Raine appear (but never them, I'm only concerned about Squall & Rinoa). There is not mentioning of Squall after that, till the ending, where Rinoa & Squall are at the balcony kissing.

What just happened? I thought Squall just died when Rino was hugging him crying over his body?
Also, wasn't Squall hit by some blue-icy things and went right through him, and he fell down. Did he survived that?

I read somewhere that half of the later game is acually Squall's dream, but I don't understand that. If someone could please explain me in detail...

In the end, did Squall & Rinoa got to be together with each-other?

Thanks!

Actually, the theory of Squall being dead is complete bullshit so don't put any credence into it. As for the ending sequence, it's been awhile since I saw the entirety of it but the way I make it ou is thusly. Remember how this is a time compressed world? Past present and future all forced together in one place. Once Ultimecia is defeated, the magic that binds the time compression fades so the timeline splits back up to it's linear state. Not really understanding the alien feelings he been learning about, he finds himself unable to return to his time like everyone else will. Rinoa has already decided to go to the garden where they agreed to meet but Squall is nowhere to be seen.

Based on his location, I suspect he is at the end of time and is effectively trapped there. The distorted flashes of memory are warning of the rewriting of time without their influence and how the aftereffects of time compression are affecting him. Rinoa goes to find him, more than likely aided by her sorceress powers and finds him lying on the ground at the end of time. You assume he's dead, but he's not. He's been going on for ages now in the end of time as evidenced by his sluggish movements before the Rinoa segue. I can tell you right now, an exhausted sleep is difficult to wake from, I slept through an earthquake that woke everyone else in the house up. But I imagine Rinoa might think he is dead but while she's cradling him in her arms, the garden appears beneath them.

Granted Rinoa was probably desiring to go there, and I imagine Squall would be dreaming about getting out of this barren time; the garden being the obvious choice. So together they create the garden and Rinoa, who though Squall was dead, is amazed to see he is in fact alive. Presumably, they make their way back to their time together to the Garden. As for the ending, they do get to be together, but without a sequel, we only see the start of any real relationship. Who knows, Squall might revert back to being a cold hardass.

Thanks! You're right. I read the entire plot on this final fantasy wiki:
http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Rinoa_Heartilly
http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Squall_Leonhart

It's really a touching story. Squall was there stuck in void and Rinoa used her sorcerers power to find him. But I just don't understand how they got back to the garden. Maybe it was Rinoa again, doing some kind of teleportation. I don't know.

But I'm glad they both made it together in the end. And hey, why not just hope they stayed together. Squall's not more a lone wolf ^^

Ah! I just like them both as a couple. I'll perhaps read about Tidus & Yuna too, but I was mostly concerned about Squall & Rinoa. I like them as a couple even before I know what Final Fantasy is.

Sorry, I while you made last post, I modified by last post a lil and added "I just don't understand how they got back to the garden. Maybe it was Rinoa again, doing some kind of teleportation. I don't know."

Well if you recall, Laguna told them how to get back to their time, some list of happy emotions. Teleportation in a sense but it was more about focusing in on your home time with those thoughts in mind.

Oh. Makes sense.
I didn't play FF games. Just always wanted to know about it. Lately started reading in-depth about these couple, and was lucky enough to find all the cut-scenes of FF VIII at youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zuc62lLk6kQ)

:)
I do hope they make a movie/tv series on this one, like they did for XIII.

Cloud was stuck in limbo basically. He'd been unable to get back out of the time compression and so is stuck. Rinoa manages to find him (whether through her sorceress powers or by her physically following him through the time compression). Once she finds him I think she believes him to be dead, she holds him and cries, thinking of them meeting in their special place in the flower field and unconsciously her powers come to life and transport her and Squall from limbo back home to their own time. When Rinoa looks back down at Squall her expression changes, she smiles happily because she realises he's not dead and they're safe and can be together.

That's what I think happened. Or Squall could really have been dead when Rinoa found him but when her powers came to life and brought her and Squall back they also brought him back from the dead as well. But all in all Rinoa managed to find Squall when he was lost in time, she thought him dead and in her anguish released her powers and brought them home.

:) Hope that clears things up. There are things that are left a bit hazy and we'll never really know.

hehe! You and the names sheechiibiii. Now you said Cloud instead of Squall xD! Nevertheless, I advice you to play the games. You will never get the full experience and the emotion based on the cutscenes or while reading the plot. The gaming experience is so much more intense. Both endings of either FF8 and 10 made me cry but only because I was able to experience the adventure behind them. If you already like the story without having played the game it is highly recommended that you actually play them :)

lol, you really got me confused with the "Cloud" thing. :p

i am avoiding games for now, to not get addicted and waste time on it, while having so many pending things to do. now a days i'm only "watching" things, like movies, even avoiding tv series to not get addicted.

one thing i still ponder about. Squall only remembered the pain that his sister caused him, and forgot his sister herself (Ellene, was she?). is this even possible, to remember the pain but forget the person itself. it's tricky...

Sorry 'bout that :omg:

The memories problem was caused by them using GF's which had a size effect of memory loss. Because of this Squall couldn't remember Ellone herself, yet the pain stayed with him because generally emotional feelings will always be more memorable to a person than physical things. Also the fact that the pain caused by losing Ellone changed Squall drastically as a person and really shaped who he is, hence why he never forgot the loneliness and the need to protect himself by not getting attached to anyone.

Oh yes, you're right. I forgot about the memory losing effect of the GF. I started wondering if that's possible in real life, to forget the person but remember the pain...stupid me! :P

I like your avatar, btw. She's really cute ^^
