so i saw it last night, and i genuinely do not know what to think of it. it's definitely the worst of the four films, but i can't decide if i like it.
the thing that lets it down so much is that jack didn't have the banter he used to have with other characters, mostly because it's an almost entirely new cast. even barbossa's character is changed a lot, and mr. gibbs doesn't feature much so you're left with a lot of new characters. they tried to replicate the banter with blackbeard, but jack just doesn't bounce off him the way he did with will and barbossa.
i think blackbeard has been used too late - he should have been in the original trilogy and davy jones in the new films. the priest feels like a they're trying to replace will - he has a very similar character and even looks the same.

it definitely feels like it was one long set up for the rest of the new trilogy, and i think the next two will be better films.

and for those interested, there's a stinger too.

PIRATES #4...Was good...will continue.

Well I saw the 4th Pirates movie and I have to say that I think it was well done and a great edition to the seris even though I was skeptical. They managed to leave it hanging perfectly to form into a 5th movie almost the way they did with the 2nd and 3rd. Maybe not such a cliffhanger but definately its apparant there will be another. Penelope Cruz was a good edition and the dialouge was great. So were the new concepts about mermaids and the fountain of youth. They are doing a great job of roping all of this myths and stories together in a saga.

I thought it was great. your opinions guys?

I finally saw this movie. And I really liked it, maybe even better than 2 and 3.

I liked Angelica better than Elizabeth Swan. At first I was very worried about her being a love interest for Jack and figured she'd be a Mary Sue, but they did a good job with her character. She also wasn't just another version of Elizabeth (at least I didn't think so)

And I liked the mermaids. I was surprised at how much nudity Disney let in the film. Ok so it wasn't much, but for Disney I thought it was.

The only big thing I felt could have been better was to develope the preachers character more. I thought his relationship with the mermaid could have been much more interesting if his character was fleshed out more. He felt too much like a much less interesting version of Will.

i didn't see the point in angelica being in it. she wasn't necessary to the story and it could have progressed just as well without her. i was hoping for a bit more play on the whole lying by telling the truth thing because i thought that was fantastically simple. i might have preferred her if she wasn't played by penelope cruz though.

and as for the priest (philip, i think he was called), i'd say his character will be built on a bit more in the next one - they just need to bring him back from the dead first.
