A Dutch physiotherapist has claimed that he uses two miniature pigs to help his patients in Germany.

Daan Vermeulen brings Felix and Rudi to meetings with his older patients and also with children who suffer from emotional or behavioural problems, Reuters reports.

He explained that the pigs encourage pensioners to move about and also foster greater social interaction among patients.

"This generation associates pigs strongly with their youth," Vermeulen said. "It's a reunion with an animal one once knew well but hasn't thought of in many years."

Of his choice of animal, he added: "Dogs certainly have good qualities but if I'm walking along one side of the street with my pig and you're walking along the other side with your dog, then everyone will look at me. That's the advantage of a pig."

I find this really unusual, but if it works, then I suppose it's something to be really glad of.

Lol.... of course everyone be looking at the guy with the pig, IT'S A PIG!? :ffs:

Just thought i'd throw that one in there. :mokken:

As for the article as an entirely.... Lol..... there are about 10+ other animals that can have the same effect on people. That doctoe probably just likes pigs and wants to show them off.

This is true. >.< You could have a pet ferrat and people would stop and stare.

I think if you were walking anything other than a dog it would make people have a gawk at you to be honest. XD

And he wants to use these pigs to socialise people with emotional and behavioural problems?

Um what if someone with kids got all excited about the fact there was a pig on the street, went up to meet it, which in turn would serve it's main purpose and then the patient turns out to be a psycho at them. XD

I dunno, it could happen to anyone I suppose but it's still a strange way to get people socially interactive.
