"A long-standing law in Paris, France that forbids women to wear trousers, might soon be repealed, the Telegraph UK reports. Ten French ministers submitted a bill to parliament to get rid of the outdated law, which was put into place in 1799.
The law was amended several times: once in 1892 to allow women to sport trousers while riding horses and again in 1909 to permit the ladies to wear pants while on bicycles.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy recently called on parliament to take a look at French laws that need reworking. The France pants ban is one of them."

What the bloody hell?-__-

So what was the French version of "get in her pants?":grin:

What the hell? It's not the law that surprises me. There have been plenty of weird laws like that... but how come I never noticed? Not once whilst I was in Paris did I realise this law was in effect.

Archaic, out-of-touch laws like this exist in many places. I've been to Paris and I've seen many women wear trousers so thankfully, the French have taken the initiative not to really take notice of this old law. I had no idea that a law like this existed anyway. It again just goes to show what their attitudes to women were like back then.

It just surprises me also that the law hasn't been actually repealed already.

Did you see women wearing pants?

Never mind, my question was answered.

Lmao;

KENTUCKY;

  • It is illegal for a woman to appear in a bathing suit on a highway unless she is: escorted by at least two police officers; armed with a club; or lighter than 90 pounds or heavier than 200 pounds. The ordinance also specifically exempts female horses from such restrictions.
  • State law stipulates that a person is considered sober until he or she "cannot hold onto the ground".
  • It is illegal to remarry the same man four times. [/FONT]That is WAY too funny!

Indeed, those are some different laws. From what I remember when I visited Paris, twice, women were wearing pants. This is the first time Ive heard of this law, how crazy lol.

I just can't believe they weren't taken care of a long time ago >.<

So what was the French version of "get in her pants?"

"get in her underpants".

what, don't say you didn't see that coming. :P

"Get under her skirt?"? :awesome:

Yeah, there are a few old, silly laws that still exist. In the town where the college I go to, there are no sorority houses because it is against the law there to have more than a certain amount of women in a house at the same time. I'm guessing that this law was made to prevent people from making brothels? :hmmm:

Checked Vermont's laws...

Women must obtain written permission from their husbands to wear false teeth
Now my question here is; what if the woman's single or a widow?
It is illegal to deny the existence of God.
Oh man, I could get so many of my old classmates in trouble for this XD
It is illegal to whistle underwater
Well, I know what I'm trying this summer =D

As for Paris' no-pants law; I'm just going to assume people forgot about it in the midst of more important things. It doesn't seem to have been enforced (at least that was the case when my tour group went through there in 2003).
