What bands do you think are overrated, and why?


Personally I think Muse are incredibly overrated, as my good friend Alex pointed out to me one day that Mr Bellamy steals countless riffs and melodies from other bands songs, and Alex was a huge Muse fanatic, now he's gone pretty much off them since discovering that all the amazing Mr Bellamy does is copy other melodies and the like.


They're also not that good (but that's just me)

Pretty much all rap is overrated these days; Kanye West, 50 Cent and all that just isn't that great.
The Enemy are another one that I don't really like much. They've got a couple of good songs, yes, but they're nothing special. Kind of like The Ordinary Boys. xD
The Twang are pretty much the same, but without the good songs. They're average at best, and that's stretching the definition.
I can't stand Jack Penate, though I can see the why people like him. It's just not my thing.

Of course, that's all just to my tastes.
 
Yarr.. When listening to Muse i could sense a nirvana and radioheady feel to their songs, I don't know if thats anything to do with stealing riffs or just their style..

I think the smiths are overrated for no reason except that I cant stand them, and everybody else seems to love them
 
MUSE ARE NOT LIKE RADIOHEAD.
They do have a little bit of influence by them, I can see that, but I've never got a really big Radiohead feel from them.
 
Well maybe it's just the vocals I'm thinking off.. I'm not what you'd call a huge radiohead fan though so I'm not really one to judge..
 
Ooooh, I love Muse. =( Well, they're not really overrated here.

As for overrated bands....Definitely Metallica... They only had a few goods songs such as Enter Sandman and Master of Puppets. Also their little bitching about Napster was rather annoying...

Dave Mathews Band was also overrated....I have no idea why my High school loved this band so much.

I agree, most rap is overrated. P.Diddy, he's so overrated. His music and his voice is terrible. I don't think rappers deserve millions for singing about their bitches and their hoes. The only acceptable rap I'll listen to is early 90s rap.
 
My Chemical Romance ~ Sure, they have a few good songs, but the new album just plummeted past rock bottom. FUCK THE BLACK PARADE.

I have to agree, not like Radiohead.

The only album that gives off even the slightest hint of Radioheadishness would be Showbiz.

Anything after that is nicked from other artists, also I think any of these Metalcore bands are heavily overrated. Avenged Sevenfold, Trivium, Bullet for my valentine etc etc.

They're all the same(they've admitted this), and they all aren't that good at what they do.
 
My chemical romance are greately overated and the only reason people listen to their songs is coz they fancy one of the members and need to watch the videos to see the people they want to marry, and also they have had 1 or 2 good songs and people like the others just because they ae MCR songs

I actually like Avenged Sevenfold, and some of BFMV, not fond of Trivium, but I wouldn't say that they're overrated :/ You have pretty high standards man.

As for me I think that most new rap is overrated, the old school rap was much better, now it's all about naked chick and gold chains, makes me puke.

Also HIM in my opinion is overrated, and some other Scandinavian bands.
 
*Puts on protective armor* I personally think the Beatles are overrated. I didn't grow up listening to them, and when I finally heard what is considered their best stuff, I didn't really get it. I still don't get it. A lot of people shake their fists at me, and tell me I don't understand how groundbreaking they really were. Um, yeah, so what? Just because they did it first, doesn't mean they're great. That's like saying everyone should love the first model of computer ever made because it was groundbreaking. I appreciate what it did for computers, but fuck that, I want a newer computer! I just don't like the Beatles, and I personally think they are waaaaaay overrated. Also, ripping off other cultures ftw. Indians have been playing the sitar since the Middle Ages, long before the Beatles got to it.
 
You know who is really overrated? ELVIS PRESLEY.

This guy stole about 95% of the songs that he sang. All he did was shake his leg while he played a guitar, and he wasn't really all that great a guitar player.

Sorry, but Im sick to death of people comparing both bands. IMO Muse arent overrated. They were barely in the news before the Black Holes album. Yeah, that album has now thrown them into the public eye more and I sure as hell not complaining. Theyve been going since the late 90s and no one bothered to acknowledge them.

And if you still believe Muse sound like everyone else, guess what? Nothing is original anymore. Be it music, books, or movies. Nothing is orginal. Hell, Ive heard Killers songs that sound like Muse, but I dont care.

But yeah bands like Metallica and Fall Out Boy are wayyyyyyyyyyy overrated. Sick to death of them. And the Beatles also.
 
I agree on Fall out Boy, but Metallica is a legendary band and they've had influence on a lot of bands that play today, personally I'm not a huge fan of Metallica, but I recognize their achievements ;).

I've listened to Muse for a good few years, and most people I know listen to Muse and cream at the mere mention of his name.

I don't say they sound like everyone else, I say they nick other peoples ideas from other songs, there's such a thing as taking an influence and taking the an entire melody, like most of the songs from Origin of Symmetry have intros ripped off from Classical or Baroque songs.

They're good, don't get me wrong, but they aren't THAT good as everyone makes them out to be like gods of music. I saw them at Glasto one year, and they did one hell of a show, but it wasn't the best I've been to.
 
Certainly Muse, but I don't actually know that many famous bands... I'm terrible with music, but I've heard many people say that Muse is incredible and I personally dislike the music. The Pussycat Dolls are over-rated. ¬_¬

AGH! Agree! I hate her! I'm sick of hearing her shitty song, "Rehab." All these people are like, "omg, she's totally the next big thing. She's soooo talented!" Um...no? She's a dumbass who makes tabloids because of her shitty personal life and her heroin addiction. I don't understand what qualifies her as "talented."

D: I like Muse. I don't know much about music, so I can't really comment on if they steal stuff or are overrated. But, honestly, they don't really get any publicity here in the States (or where I live). I hadn't heard of them until recently, and only then it was because of youtube.
