Just a quick question, how do you get Omnislash and how long does it take?

I was told you got it from amassing 50,000 BP at the Golden Saucer, but how do I get BP and how long will it take to get that much?

You get BP by winning consecutive battles in the Battle Arena at Gold Saucer, depending on how strong your characters are it can take you around an hour if you're prepared or much longer if you're a little on the weak side.

Depends on your equipment. Around Level 40, it might take abit longer, than if you were in Disc 3. I got my party to 50, and had most of my party's ultimate weapons before i went into Battle Square.

if you have the best equipment you can get thus far into the game, you shouldn't have too much trouble, especially if you have Fire/Ice/Bolt3 or Demi ^^

Actually, it depends on when you are trying to get Omnislash. You can only get it after you get the Tiny Bronco. At that point, it costs 51,200 BP. If you wait until after getting the Highwind, you can get it for only 32,000 BP. Unless you've been really grinding your limit breaks, you'd probably be ready for it around the time you get the Highwind anyway, if not very soon after.

As for getting the BP, it can be very quick or very long depending upon your luck. It really comes down to three factors: How strong the character you are using is (equpipment AND level), the enemies you are fighting against, and the slots after every battle. If you wear a status protecting accessory (like Ribbon), you can cut down on a good bit of the slot effects (like poison, toad, etc). Some you can't prevent, like Level Down.

The trick is also to try not to get the Cure or Lucky 7 slots. I think the amount of BP gained is based upon the slots you have gained. So if you get only handicapping slots, the amount of BP you get will go up. That's why having a ribbon (or other status accessories) are fairly important. One thing I've never noticed is if the game will take into account your equipment when calculating the BP. I'm not sure if the BP gained will be different for someone who got the poison slot without having any poison prevention on as opposed to someone who had poison protection on. It may only just look at the slot you got and not of the effect stuck on you.

Best Gear

Ultima Weapon - Cloud's best weapon
Escort Guard - A very handy Armor
Ribbon - A good accessory for defending against negative statuses

Best Materia
Cure - Regen is preferred
Enemy Skill - With Big Guard
A Summon - Any powerful summon with some stars on it.
Comet - One with Comet 2 on it.
HP Plus
MP Plus
2x cut - Should be leveled up at least once.
Counter Attack
Esuna

Some cool combos

Hades + Added Effect on armor will cancel some negative status effects.

Tips

* You get more BP for completing all 8 battles. You will also get more if the slots were really bad. The most BP can be gained by getting the No Materia Equipped slot. You get less BP from the Lucky Sevens or the Cure slots.

* While it is important that you get as much BP as possible, sometimes you may not want to finish all 8 battles and skip out if you think your going to die.

* None of the enemies in there will hurt you other then status effects. Its nice to have some good ways to cure like Esuna or Items, even some enemy skills will work. It's good to take a minute and cure yourself before a dreadful mistake happens.

* The last battle will more then likely be hard. It depends on what slots you got during the battles. If you were lucky and you got most of the stuff you need you can breeze right through it. However, if you were unlucky you may find yourself mini'ed, poisoned, weapon broken, and item locked. Beware that sometimes you can't win. If you have any of these conditions before you enter the last battle make sure you can finish it. Or skip out and take what BP you can.

There are actually 2 ways to get Omnislash. The GOld Saucer is the faster and easiest way to get it, the other way is by battling and killing enemies with Meteor-Rain. It usually takes a few hundred battles. I got it after beating Ultimate Weapon and fighting one battle in the Grassy Hill next to Cosmo.

My way to get OmniSlash:

When?: Disc 3 when you only need 32,000 BP.
Who?: Cloud
Weapon: Ultima Weapon - Do 9,999 Damage.
Armor: Aurora Armlet - This is good because most enemies use Ice magic during the battles.
Accessory: Ribbon - Good to prevent the stupid status changes.
Materia: Counter Attack, Slash All, HP Plus(if not at Max HP)

Basically just use Attack(or Slash All w/ my strategy) and destroy everything. Counter Attack is good in case you are slowed and the enemies attack you more than you get to. Like I said above, the Aurora Armlet absorbs Ice attacks. Most enemies will cast magic or use skills that use Ice type abilities. The Ribbon is a no brainer. And the Ultima Weapon is good for max damage. Do this and win about 6-8 times and you will get to 32,000.

Bonus Tip: Need GP fast? At the entrance of Gold Saucer(where the tram stops and lets you out) and a man sometimes appears in the top left corner. He will sell 10GP for 100 gil. The max he sells you is 100GP then he leaves. Just keep going back and forth between the entrance and the lobby and randomly he will appear again. Stock up so you don't have to leave the Battle Arena(if you do, all your points are gone).

An alternative way to get Omnislash requires the Mime materia. Make sure you Limit bar is almost full(basically making you Limit engage after one hit). Then use your Limit Break. Then just keep using the Mime Command and continue to do your Limit Break for each round.

Good luck.

Well, you obtain it by defeating consecutive rows of monsters, you'll need a good armour on, the ribbon to be immune to all effects such as poison, sleep and so on. Now you can take it on which you shall and you'd probably earn a variety of points, it's unknown to give an exact amount but it will be more than 10,000.

No.

Level 4 limits can only be learnt through the items.

Occasionally a glitch occurs that allows you to use all the limit breaks at the beginning of the game, but otherwise items are the only way to get it.

Besides, killing enemies with Meteorain would teach you Finishing Touch, not Omnislash.

As to the original post - the mechanics of the Battle Square aren't fully understood yet, but the main thing is, the worse the slot, the better the BP. The BP gained is based on a set amount times the ID of the last slot, times the current slot number. So breaking all magic materia at slot 7 will give you a LOT more BP than getting it at slot 2.

There are some more mechanics, but basically you want a Ribbon and you want to aim for the worst slots.

If I remember right BP are awarded in the following amounts(roughly):

300+

1500+

3500+

7000+

10,000+

And the highest bonus amount in the Unique Battle 15000+

You actually only need either 32000 BP or 34000BP I forget. I did it in the 40s levels somewhere but I had ribbon equipped to Cloud Counter attack Materia, time, Cure with at least Regen, Wall, and that was it. Oh, I was also stocked up on Megalixirs, Ethers, Turbo Ethers, and X potions just in case the magic command was sealed. I think I got it in about 40 - 45 minutes.
