After beating FFVIII and stuff, this was the first thing that came up. There will no Sorceress after Ultimecia. The world afterward would be Sorceress-free. Recall how a Sorceress must pass on her powers correct (simplified).

Spoiler Alert:

Remember the scene that takes place after Ultimecia is defeated? Squall somehow ends up back in time at the orphanage and meets Matron Edea. Edea is looking for a little Squall. Ultimecia suddenly appears and freaks Squall out. Ultimecia passes on her powers to Edea who was already a Sorceress. Therefore, Edea has inherited the powers of two Sorceress. I won't go into much detail about Ultimecia's powers.

We also know that there were two Sorceress at that time. The other one being Sorceress Adel, the ruthless ruler of Esthar. Later in the game, Edea unknowingly transferred her powers to Rinoa. Rinoa has gained the powers of two lineage of Sorceress. This took place in Disc 2 I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Later on in the Lunatic Pandora, Rinoa also recieved the powers of Adel after Adel was defeated. Now Rinoa has three lineages of Sorceress making her the strongest Sorceress at that time. Also, there could only be one Sorceress at a time now.

Now, Rinoa passes on her powers and this process repeats itself until Ultimecia inherits it. Ultimecia passes her powers onto Edea in the distance past to form a loop. Therefore, since there is nothing to pass onward, there is no more Sorceress.

What do you guys think?

I get what you're saying, but I don't think that the lineage of sorceresses ends there. I'm sure that Rinoa still keeps her sorceress powers, but now she isn't controlled by Ultimecia because she is dead. But I'm not too sure with this.

What I meant was that Rinoa passes her powers to the next generation, and that person keeps passing it to the next generation until the powers are passes onto Ultimecia.

But you are also correct to say that the lineage might not end there. Look at Adel and Edea. There could be more lineages of sorceress powers out there. Maybe there are sorceresses who hides themselves. Maybe the powers could be divided and given unto more than one person.

Gah, I don't think I understand this whole sorceress thing. I played the game when I was only 13 so I don't remember the whole storyline dealing with sorceress. I definitely have to play this game again soon and pay more attention to details.

Hmm, what I do know though, is that Rinoa is a good sorceress and that I don't think there'd be any more threat in the world. Rinoa is the only sorceress now...or is she?

Yeah, I just think that the corruptness of Ultimecia and her controls over other sorceress's are gone. I agree with Faith that Rinoa probably keeps her sorceress status, but she is no longer chained down unconsciously by a greater power.

Haha that's far to complicated.

The answer is this:

Squall and his group defeat Ultimecia in the future.

She then travels through time compression to the point in time at Matron's orphanage when Squall is a little boy.

This point in time, however, was before Matron even KNEW Rinoa.
Meaning she had not yet passed her powers on to Rinoa yet.
Meaning Rinoa still only has Edea's powers.
