:awesome: Hi guys. I am a little new to Final fantasy. I just recently started playing FFX. But if you guys have any pointers on the series it would help. :ken:

Are you by any chance the Spoony one? :hmmm:

If not: welcome to the forums :) I like your name. Have you already played FFIV? I'm asking because that's where the term 'Spoony Bard' came from. If not, play FFIV, VI, VII, and IX. And enjoy FFX :)

lol, ive only played X, I know quite a bit about the series but not enough. I do a lot of final fantasy research.

Welcome and such. I agree with Phoenyx, and I would play XII as well. Also, avoid VIII like the plague.

yeah ive heard about the awful battle system in 8. Ill wait after i become a pro, thats long aways from now

It's the junctioning system and drawing magic that turned me off the most about VIII. That and the fact that the story goes out the window after Disc 1.

The ones I suggested before (IV, VI, VII, IX, and X) are my personal favorites. Eventually you should try to play all of them since everyone has different tastes. X is good to start with, in my opinion, since it's on the PS2 so it's not THAT outdated, and it's probably the last FF that was actually any good (again: opinions will differ on this. A lot of people dislike X, and some say XII is superior. Personally, I really disliked XII. So again, it's all a matter of preference. I still suggest playing XII though, so don't get me wrong on that).

So what systems do you have? Which game do you think you want to try next? If you have a PS1: play FFVII next since it's one of the most beloved in the series. Or if you have the PSN on your PS3 you can download VII-IX under the category of PS1 Classics. Along with FF Tactics (I recommend playing this one too).

Actually 8 is a great game, the only thing that makes people bash at it is the same reason why people bash at FF5, neither is similar to the previous entry, FF7 and FF4 wich is not fair.

FF 8 is the easiest FF game so i recomend you to play it is a great game is just that people are still attached to its previous installment.

pheonix i have ps2 and ps3, having a ps2 basically means i have a ps1 since it plays those, other then that i have a wii and a ds and 3ds. i already got a plan, next will be X-2 for me so that i can continue my current story, after next will be 7, cant wait for that one, i might also do 13 after that

Kratoscar, i will of course eventually play 8, i just have a lot of first priorities before it

Well I have to disagree with what was said about 8.. It is easily the easiest game of the series. I dont mean to sound arrogant or anything but whats so difficult about the junctioning system? I was 10 when I first played the game, I had little knowledge of english language yet it was perfectly easy for me to grasp. Besides the fact that some people think that the story goes down the drain after disk 1 comes down to personal preference and pure subjectivity. Yes the story telling has some flaws at times(which ff doesnt?) but I find that the crazy shit(Although I dont think it is crazy at all because this is a FANTASY game) that happens after disk 1 the best part of the story. Its fantasy, sci-fi, the inter connection of 2 different stories, the complexity involved in the concepts of Ellone's powers and the whole game's timeline. I love how everything comes together in the end. The love story completed in the generation prior to the game's past generation. The intrigue, the flat out fantasy derived from the rest of the game..I love this game to death. At some points the execution of the story was not done well but to me those are mere microscopic imperfections in the big picture. I highly recommend final fantasy 8 and if you are afraid that you wont be able to adapt to the game's different style just play it for half an hour.. Its enough to see if you like the style.
Now forgetting FF8. Its a very good choice to start with 10 but after you should try the "underdogs" and then compare it to 7/10 and youll see that the difference is somewhat little. My advice would be FF10-9-8-7-4-6-13-5-12-1-2-3. Oh and I also have yet to see a hard final fantasy..Final fantasy is casual material when it comes to gameplay. At best there is some grinding and preparation to do for the super bosses but they can also be beaten with ease. 13 has received more criticism than any other entry, you might aswell leave 13 to last so you dont get turned off.

You are new and as i was new i began with 8 and then with the other ps1 tittles, FFX is quite difficult compared to the PS1 games and after beating them all from XII to below 8 is the easiest.

Im not a english speaker and i managed to understand the junction system easily so its not as complicated as other people make it to be.

well i dont know much about 8 so i might like the battle system it does look like a very well done game

I'd say you started with the best choice, for the reason that was said earlier: it's not too dated. After that...it really depends on you. I'd say leave 9 until much later. Even though 9 is the best (naturally), it's got things in it that have been taken from the older games. You'll appreciate it more if you play it later on :)

The battle system is not that different from FF 7 or 9, the difference is that in FF8 instead of using MP the magic uses a stock system like you have 20 cures you can use cure 20 times, believe me this game doesnt deserve the bash, FFXIII on the other hand....i can only say is the only FF game i couldnt tolerate so leave it to last.

Well sure that the drawing system is kind of nuisance but it is easily overcome with the cards. You can swap the cards for the magic you need and get really overpowered early one. Thats why the game is so easy(although it has a superboss that is challenging).

9 would be a perfect game if the story wasnt so slow to pick up and if it wasnt so easily exploited and of course NECRON apart from that the sound track is top notch, the characters are fun and relatable and the story is outstanding(but it is very slow to start).

I like how the story is slow to pick up. Village of Dali is simply a masterpiece, and that's because of how slow it is there :jess:
