ok, i've seen this kind of thread in here before don't know how i could link the thread to you but......my question or rather need for help is on the 8-bit Paletted Textures part of the Final Fantasy VII configuration tests that it does to run the program..

to give a clue as to what it's asking and if you know what i'm talking about:

Required 3d Features for Direct3d

Triangle Textures - Pass
Flat-shaded Triangles - Pass
Gouraud-shaded Triangles - Pass
Source Blend Mode 1 - Pass
Destination Blend Mode 1 - Pass
Source Alpha - Pass
Destination Inverse Src Alpha - Pass
8-bit Paletted Textures ----

It's funny cause it did say fail after i ran it right after the setup finished installing.....now it's giving me ----

but any help anyone could give me would be awesome
This is my configuration

Wow, I'm totally lost with this topic. I mean I've played the game for the PS1, but are you asking about the version on the PC?

Edit: Nevermind. Read title. :ffs:

My first thought is you need a plug-in for vista. FF7 came out on PC way back. I'm pretty sure the only Operating Systems that have been integrated to work with FF7 are XP and 2000. I have no idea about Mac.

That's the only downside to vista, hopefully with Windows 7 coming out, this will fix a lot of problems with gaming.

Yeah the game fails with Vista. Tried it myself the otherweek. Try running it in XP compatibility mode.

I doubt that your DirectX configuration is the problem. What exactly happens when you try to run the game? The only thing I can think to try is, as said above, run the game in compatibility mode: right-click the executable file, go to Properties, and the compatibility options should be there somewhere - try all of them.

I think one of the main problems with FFVII for PC is that you need a patch to run it on Vista or Windows XP, I tried playing it without a patch and the screen would mess up and it would crash randomly...etc.

this just sucks....i'm almost givin up here.....i still have the fail on the 8-bit thing....tried the patchs.....i'm giving up for now....there's just to many problems to deal with it all.....arrgg frustrated with it all

Yeah I've had the same problem mate, all I did was patch it to 1.2 and click on the invidia button allowing it to bypass the 8-bit Paletted Textures to run using Direct X. Just make sure you save every so often as it doesn't stop it from crashing every so often sadly.
8-bit Paletted Textures haven't been supported by new graphics cards for years anyway, so there is no way to fix this properly.
You could always use the PSX emulation version, you can aquire this using torrents. I have it and it works a treat after a little tweaking :)
Hope this helps you.

WTH are you people talking about?

Look I have the exact same problem. I was able to get to the point where I have to do the chocobo race to escape, and an error occured. The compatibility thing does not work. I tried that to. You need a DOS emulator to run this game since it was made for windows 95. Windows 95 used DOS to run games instead of what the newer windows models are using. I have no clue though where to get one however. But until you do, You will not be able to run FFVII on your PC. All Right?:sup:
