Not 100% sure if I should post this in Costa or The Meeting Room (or even in The Lobby), so if anyone else would prefer this thread to be elsewhere, just shift it there and leave a 24-hour re-direct on the thread. :)

What're some of the strangest names you've ever heard? Do you know someone with a particularly strange/exotic/foreign name? Does it mean anything?

As a possible side-topic, what are your thoughts on outrageous names for children? Not-too long ago, I heard of a mother naming her daughter: "Talula does the Hula in Hawaii", which should merit the mother some form of criminal record imo. xDD

Yeah I heard about that, here's the link for that if you're interested: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/7522952.stm One of my favourite odd names on the list was "Number 16 Bus Shelter" :monster:

I personally don't know anyone with strange names, although I do have a friend of a friend who changed his name to "Lord Stompy" xDDD

I think the celebrity fad for stupid baby names - Fifi Trixibell, Peaches, Apple, Moses, Bluebell Madonna, etc - is just that - a fad. The parents, being rich and famous, are completely detached from normal society, and they don't realize that their poor children are going to get slaughtered when they're older for having such crappy names.

Although, I think the best name I've heard of is that New Zealand couple who wanted to call their child Superman xD

I had a friend named Chlamydia D: It's a depressing name really.

More effort please.

I know a guy named Asad, he is from pakistan. I hope I spelled that right. I gave him the name Dasa. He was like my best friend for a long time. we did everything together. Like most of my friends I got him to play runescape. :P

More effort please, this is a post count area.

Better? :wacky:

There should seriously be laws about giving your kid stupid names, its just gunna open the poor kid up to many years of therapy. I remember reading about some kid who was called Alan (insert the entire man - u squad here and thensome >_>) PAcino, and his dad was worried the kid would get bullied for being called Al Pacino.....fucking moron. Im almost positive that there is a kid called Febreze knocking about somewhere aswel, its ridiculous.

There was a girl caklled Sultana in my school, I had detention with her, I almost wet myself when I heard that one >_> The fad of surnames as first names annoys me aswel, I know a girl who callled her kid Mitchel...... tehn there are all the little McKenzies running around

Whatefver floats your boat really, I guess Im old fashioned like that >_>

I certainly think there should be some sort of law against the stupier names like fucking febreze though

passport-name-batman-superman.jpg

have heard people have gone as far as naming their child Sephiroth
and an estonian name....''heli kopter''.
my last name is Margus. and some people in the family have named a child Markkus Margus...which everyone thinks isnt exactly normal...and for some reason i want to name my child Magnus Margus.....

That couple in New Zealand initially wanted to call their son '4REAL' but it was unacceptable because there was a digit in the name. =/ So they decided on 'Superman' for the moment while they fight to officially name him '4REAL'.

Apparently when they saw a ultrasound of the baby they realised that he was 'for real'. Duh.

Lol. Some people are CRUEL. That poor little boy.

Oh and on the same page as the one I posted it also shows that a Chinese couple attempted to name their child '@'. Just the symbol on its own. >_<

Apparently the dad thought it was a good idea because of the global popularity of the symbol and the fact that in Mandarin it translates to “love him”.

I myself am going to make sure I name my children really unique names with a meaning to it. However not as 'unique' as these other parents are naming their kids. e.g '@'. I will then think of every possible horrid nickname that could be derived from their name before I decide on it as well. :P

I thought Nicole Kidman naming her daughter 'Sunday Rose' was really silly. >_< Everyone's calling her 'Sunday Roast' already. =0

It gets really boring hearing common names like 'Sarah, Matthew, Jessica etc...' The parents either really like those names or are just too lazy to choose something different. =/

I want people to hear my child's name and go 'Wow that's different. I've never heard of that before. How pretty/unique'.

My girlfriend is expecting, and her mum bought us a book of baby names, you know, the type with girls names at the front and boys names at the back. I laughed my damn head off when I read one of the girls names off the first page.

Here it is..................

Anal.

who the hell would call their daughter Anal?
its ok to say, 'what do you think of sarah'? or 'I really like katy'.
try saying 'what do you think of anal' or 'I really like anal'

or 'Anals here'.

wonder what the nicknames would be like.....

There is someone who actually named their kid 'abcde'. It's pronounces 'absiday' or something like that. I've actually met someone names Mike Hunt....if you don't get it say it out loud. There is a judge named Willie Stroker.
There is also Urhines Kendall Icy Eight Special K.... (after the drug ketamine)

One couple had to go to court because they wanted to name their kid 'Brfxxccxxmnpcccclllmmnprxvclmnckssqlbb11116' (I had to look that one up again..imagine growing up and trying to spell that?) thank god they lost...
Those are all the ones I can think of right now...unless the ones that Lewis Black used in his standup were true. Anybody hear that? the name "Shi-fay" spelled Shithead and the name "Ash-o-lay" spelled asshole. I really hope those aren't true...

I remember hearing about some couple wanted to name there kid 'Led Zepplin'.
Also, I remember reading about a kid who changed his to something like 'Faster then the Superman, Mr. Fantastic, Hulk, The Flash and Batman combined' summin leik dat. <__<

But as for myself I don't recall anyone having a funny name that I can remember.
Funniest name I've met is a guy named 'Dick'.
