What does this mean?
A Behemoth King is level 12 and has 487,620hp
And a Humbaba is level 3 and has 1,320,00hp....
how does this work?

Your obviously not dong it right every one knows what the levels mean!

Just kidding they represent the upper and lower limits of the Crystarum levels as there is no actual level system they are measured by your progress on the Crystarium and how many role crystals you have.............I thinkl?

That could be completely wrong!

They are just there for show and do not mean anything. Infact galaxyflare just wrote nonsense xD

They're just subspecies of the Behemoth family. A higher level doesn't necessarily mean higher attributes than another member of the family. If it was two Humbabas fair enough but it's one species versus another.

A baby whale can probably take more punishment than a fully grown rat. They're both mammals.

Hey! it was not complete nonsense some of it made sense!

Upon further study of the FFXIII monster data I reckon it has to do with there Item drop chancesThe highest Level I found was 88 on Anima and it has no item drops, where as Barthandelus has only one Item drop that is guaranteed after the battle like Dahaka Being at Lvl 55 & 53 respectively.

But the Targetting beacons have NOitems drops and there Lvl are 0............0!

And the behemoths Carry some better items In there rare drop box, as wellas the DreadNought carrying nothing in its Rare Box at lvl62 the Juggernaut Carries the lucrative Particle Accelerator and its at lvl 3.

My only conclusion is that the level based on a hidden factor on them wanting to create a balance of Being put in tough fights Such as with a Humbaba and a Juggernuat and being rewarded with a High level item with low chances of it being dropped vs an easy battle with weaker enemies and getting Low to mid level Items after an easy fight.

Because those Level 3 monsters follow a pattern in the Monster data of mostly being the last ones on the list but having more HP and Great er battle effect aswell as carrying the High level items for the monster group

So its about the rate at which they drop items.

I'm pretty sure it's nothing more than a number, the difficulty of the monsters stay the same throughout the game. As for the chance drops, the drops are a set percentage regardless of the level.

This is pretty wierd the first monster you fight is lvl 75 and is weak anima is easy to and is lvl 88. but harder monsters are lower lvls. maby it is just a random number.

Maybe I did not explain it very well?

The lower level enemies, as in the Numerical level not there HP or Strength and Magic Stats, are actually the High level monsters for the monster group. They have high HP and stats but a low level because they are harder to beat, and the level is based on there ITEM DROP chances!

It goes like this:

Enemies like Psicom solders have high levels but only drop basic Items because you fight a lot of them the chances are that you will get Items per a certain amount of battles.

Enemies like Humbaba & Juggernuat Drop hihg level ITEMS, but there levels are low.WHY?
Because they are harder to beat! the harder an enemies to defeat in in FFXII the lower there level is to make the chances of getting there items that much easier.

Its not a level like on other FF games!

How could it be?
Examples given in this thread have shown a massive disparity between Levels and HP
Where as in earlier FF games A level was able to determine a monsters HP STR MAG etc etc, it does not represent such things on FFXIII.

It is merely a factor regarding ITEM drop rates.

I always felt like those level numbers were completely random and never bothered to try and find an explanation for them.

I don't think monsters should have levels in this game, just like your characters don't have the standard level from 1 to 100.
