Got turned down by the Marines, Army, Air Force, and Navy because of my size/ For my height I have to weigh 175 to join. I have never weigh that within the last 10 years. Thing that really bugs me is I could easily out run out life and out do anyone that is at basic training right now. And after seein some guys from high school that made it through it can't be that bad seriously.

My friend Joe ran into that same problem, but he is doing fine enough. Just do the necessary things. If you are adamant about it, it should not be too hard.

His problem mostly, though, was that test you have to take.

I have actually done everything well except I weigh 300 pounds and have 23% body fat that is kinda hard to get form that to 180 without hollywood's way of losin weight. Push ups sit ups pulll ups no prob ASVAB too easy running and physical way too damn easy losing over 100 pounds hard i dont hav 100 pounds of fat on me so kinda hard to get rid of it. Thing I don't get is I remember GI Joe bein built so whay can't I join???? lol

Would have thought the Navy would take you on no questions asked :wacky:

You Avatar scares me. Looks like your naked. Big naked men are not cool.

Nope apparently now there is a height weight ratio to go with I'm 5'11 and have to weigh 180 to join which is quite funny seein as I prolly haven't weighed that much in 10 years.

Just for the fun of it I am not denying or agreeing on the naked status.

Man, I wouldn't think they'd be so picky. I remember hearing Bobby Lashley was a big guy in the military, and he was HUGE.

I wouldn't survive in the Army, or anything like it.

It has recently changed. They used to have a body fat % loop hole but I guess it gets nulled when at war or somethin. But I would figure you wouldn't want a 5'11 175 pound guy goin to war. Sounds more like the guy to either quit at basic or run like a wuss in combat.

the thing is man, those guys in the military that are built? They have a body fat percentage of like 2. They're almost pure muscle. Also, you need to be able to move quick, and the more muscle you have, the harder it is to move it. Once you're in it's fine, but pre-joining they want you to be in a state they can mould you to whatever they need. Think about it dude, how quick can you get up a flat wall, or under camo netting? Do you see my point?

Body fat ratio is under 20% im at 18% and to tell the truth I'm faster than any dude half my size. Line Backers ain't slow bruh. 4.3 40 yard sprint. Quite frankly after the kinda guys I have seen make it through basic they wouldn't last a week in a 12 week college/semi pro training camp. Compared to those camps there is nothing physical that can offer me any kind of challenge or problem.

I feel your pain man, really i do. I got kept out of the forces on a medical technicallity. So at least you can still get in, keep the faith man and keep trying. You'll get there.

If they bring back the body fat loop hole I'm in but right now it strictly to the weight and height charts cause another team mate of mine same height as me weighs 230 and somewhere around 7% body fat even got turned downed. I mainly wanted it cause I can't stand school and after college ball that's it for me. Too many surgeries from high school and college wouldn't last too long in the pros. So I guess for now finish my major and hit up SWAT at 21.

Doesn't bother me in the slightest :wacky:

Anyway, you should come over here, the British Army let's anyone in, my boyfriend just got out because he hated it. But he said there are some right numpties in there. xD My step dad was pretty big built aswel, although he joined back at the dawn of time, so regulations might of changed since then - either way though he was fit, and that's al that should matter :gasp:

I can understand Navy, I can understand Airforce, but when you said marines.. I think that's crazy.

Okay what you got going on is you are saying you have a low % body fat and can run fast but that means you are muscular to the core.

That's not a bad thing, but here's what I mean. I think they want you to be able to run long distance with 50-100 lbs packs on your back. My buddy got into shape joining the navy being 250 at one point and cutting to 180 by doing marathon work outs. It toned his entire body but took a HUGGEEEE amount of effort in order to maintain discipline.

If you want to take his route I can give you a PT practice work out.

1) Start out slow with 3 miles for 5 days the first week.
2) Take it up a notch and run 7 miles the first day (say monday) and 3 miles the other 2 days (Wendesday and Friday)
3) Keep this up and you will lose muscle in your arms and your legs...

They want you to be able to pull your own weight, be able to have high survivability in case you are left to ration out food and move to each destination while carrying that pack. (could be miles at a time).

Trust me I'm not doing it anytime soon but I have considered it many of times.

Like i said compared to football training camps it is nothing. 2 a days in 115 degree weather sun beating pads on you add fifty pounds and you run all day. And not just that but practice for my school is running at 6 am sharp everyday 5 miles with all our pads on. All that physical stuff is nothing. I wear weights when we run tat equal my body weight the whole defense does. And carrying a 150 pound pack a few miles after deadlifting and squating over 500 pounds aint exactly hard. Call it conceited or whatever but I know for a fact i can and already have surpassed many peoples physical limitations with my own I have yet to find a physical challenge I couldn't do. If my mind is on it, it will happen regardless of what the situation is. Proved that to my ass of a doctor who told me I'd never play football much less have much use for my left leg. Call me a hippie but I believe in the sprit being stronger than the body adn if you tap into that spirit you can surpass any physical limitations eventually. Military basic training is a joke compared to football camp.(not war just the basic training all respect to all soldiers of course)

If you knew all the time, blood sweat and tears i spent into getting what I have you'd understand why I am not doing anything that will drop what I have.

Basically comes down to me not being a soldier like my father was guess I'll find somethin else to do too bad it has to deal with school.

I went down to my Military Entrance Processing something or other last month and they turned down a guy who had to lose about 40-some pounds as well. Granted, this guy was older and only trying to enlist in the Navy, but he was pissed as well.

I'm 6' even and weigh anywhere between 180-185 lately. I have no problem with it, but I never thought they would get that strict about height-weight and all that ratio junk. You take a look at the past and the military would take people of any size, no questions asked.

Best of luck with what you go for and how things turn out though. it's a shame they changed shit up like that. :/
