Midgar is probably my favorite place in all of Final Fantasy VII, if not every Final Fantasy. I'm not sure anything can ever take it's place. It's urban. It's crowded. It's fall apart. I love it. No city on earth is nearly as amazing as Midgar. But I'm trying to think just how much of it we got to see? If it is the world underneath the rotting pizza, I'm not sure we even got a full pie slice. Seriously, how many sectors did you get to go to in the game? Remember, you parachute back in later.

I've also been trying to find if I could get the 3D model for Midgar anywhere. Surely it's somewhere. I mean if you show it in a video, you must've modeled it, right? So therefore I should be able to find it and just zoom around midgar? Who knows. I have found people who are attempting to recrate the world though. It's pretty cool:

President Shinra's Office
The Highwind - Remodeled
On top of Sector 7 Slums
Shinra HQ - Remodeled
Midgar - Remodeled
Sector 4 Station

This is the main guy doing most of the work...

I have also found someone recreated Midgar for Jedi Knights: Jedi Academy in what they call Midgar v3.0

Wow! That is some amazing CG recreation there! I think what he's doing is beyond awesome and I agree with you on Midgar. Amazing city, truly it is. I can't wait to see him do the church. I would't mind seeing him do some CG creations of Cloud, Aerith, Cid, Tifa, etc... Thanks for sharing this with us!

We only roamed in secter's 0 (shinra building), 1 (start with train station and reactor), 5 slums (Aeris place etc), 6 slums (wall market etc), 7 slums (tifas bar, train graveyard etc), and 8 (after reator 1 blows up, plus Midgar disc 2).

This Image is pretty awesome in my opinion. It reminds me of the structures in FFXII in the Yensa Seasands.

As for Midgar, it was a brilliant locational idea for a starting place in FFVII. Right off the bat you are thrusted into a mission and you have a job to do immiediately as the game starts for an introduction to a few of the characters.

I have to say though, I wasn't too fond of Midgar at the time I started FFVII, mainly because of it's rundown, gloomy, and dark scene. However, once I stepped foot outside the city and met up with a majority of the characters, I looked back and it finally hit me of what importance this city has in the game.

I like Midgar right off the bat for pretty much the same reasons you hated it. It just has such an awesome atmosphere. But the tower you liked is the Sector 7 pillar where you fight Reno right in the beginning. THat's where you like lose half of Avalance... and you're tossed into Sector 5/6.

Hmm, I don't even remember how many sectors I got into the game, exactly...but it was quite a lot for sure because I spent hours being in Midgar! =O

Anyway, extremely awesome CG there! I really like the Highwind. Everything is so smooth and the mountains look real. And yes, Midgar is indeed a memorable place...even the name stands out!

Honestly in the beginning I couldn't wait to get out of Midgar. But it was still a great place :D
