Metal

Dear lord, OverFjell, that's a massive list O___O But um, like Zantetsuken said, why is Tool on there? And where is Testament on that list?

Heyyy! I like Tool! *slaps* They're more alternative metal/progressive rock anyways.

As for Dragonforce, gosh, so much hatred towards them. I think they're alright. :/ Then again I like a few Rhapsody of Fire songs. *Hides* (Don't kill me because I like epic metal. T_T)

@OverFjell-You forgot Dimmu Borgir, Dissection, and Dragonlord. Also I am glad you didn't list that gaymetal band called Dragonforce.

Dimmu Borgir are a fucking embarassment to black metal.

As for Tool, it was a mistake on my behalf :monster:

BTW, what genre would King Diamond lie under? I've only heard their song Welcome Home and the guy's voice is hilarious but the music is actually pretty good.

I've got them down as just normal Heavy Metal.

You can't be listening to all of that? Just write down those you listen to currently.

But I do! :monster:

Oi! Dimmu is fucking awesome! The real embarrassment to metal is Cradle of Filth. Dani's voice is just terrible.

That sounds about right. Haha, I tried watching a few more vids of theirs on youtube, and as decent as their music is, I just can't take it seriously because of the guy's voice. The comments are hilarious to read as well, so many people think the band is frigging awesome and the guy's voice is amazing. Um, no, they're decent but not great and his voice is too silly.

Hrmm...what would Yngwie Malmsteen be considered? I had alot of their albums, but I deleted all but The Seventh Sign since I think that guy's voice fits the band the best.

Right you are my good man. I really don't see why everyone likes Cradle of Shit.

I've never heard of Yngwie Malmsteen. I don't know what to tell you on this one. Maybe someone else can help you out here.

I don't either. Actually the only person I know who likes them is a fucking poser, she'll go around blithering on about bands she loves but she can't even name one song by them. Maybe that's the only type of person Cradle appeals to.

This is Malmsteen's song Seventh Sign: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5FZKNEzrQQ Malmsteen is actually the chubby guitarist with the frilly purple shirt, he just made a band. According to many a commenter on youtube he's a phenomenal guitarist *shrugs* Doesn't sound special to me, but it's nice.

Yeah he's not bad. Judging by this song I would have to say that he was influenced by 80's hair metal bands. It sounds like a mix of many metal genre's. He's a good musician but I wouldn't add any of their albums to my collection.

lmao, see that's why I haven't actually BOUGHT any of their albums, whereas I've bought Opeth's albums. Don't even see Dimmu's albums around except in FYE and the nearest FYE is like an hour away and I'm not wasting my gas driving up there.

On a side note, I showed that Seventh Sign vid to this preacher boy kid I know (I keep him as a "friend" for teh lulz, it's fun tricking him into looking at porn) and he had this to say about it:

[11:52] Saber of Truth73: I love Seventh Sign
[11:53] DantesLivingHell: it's an awesome song isnt it? ^_^
[11:53] Saber of Truth73: don't like the way they look
[11:53] Saber of Truth73: but I love the song
[11:54] DantesLivingHell: lmao, i still dont see what the hell you could possibly dislike about their look, they look completely normal aside from Malmsteen's frilly shirt
[11:54] Saber of Truth73: I don't like the way a lot of Christian bands look
[11:55] DantesLivingHell: so what ARE they supposed to look like? all have short hair and wear khakis and tucked in collar shirts?
[11:55] Saber of Truth73: rofl
[11:55] Saber of Truth73: no
[11:55] Saber of Truth73: its really hard to pinpoint

Feel free to IM him for teh lulz and spam him with porn.

Im not a metal person, but I remember watching videos of Yngwie Malmsteen with my ex. My boyfriend and his mates like Cradle of Filth. Im not really a fan of them.

Dimmu Boring more like.

The only half-decent song is Puritania.

.

Shred. It's not metal in the slightest.

Yngwie Malmsteen is best described as Avent-Grande Metal, or to dumb it down, Classical-Metal.

The diffrence between Thrash and Speed Metal, as someone wanted to know earlier, is that Speed focuses mostly on very fast playing, usually high notes. Example; Dragonforce
Thrash, though can be just as fast, tends to be heavier and more aggressive with its sound. e.g. Metallica and Megadeth.

My metal bands; Maiden, Priest, Sabbath, 'Tallica, 'Deth and....BUDGIE! Proper stuff mofo's

Cradle of Filth is teh suck :monster:

I'm going to ignore that grievously horrid statement.

Ugh, why the hell do there have to be so many genres to metal? It's confusing x__X

And according to your definitions and examples...I don't like thrash OR speed xD

What would Slayer be considered? Heavy metal? I do like them.

I would classify Slayer as more of a heavy metal band. They make a few songs that stray from that genre, but for the most part they are heavy metal.

Slayer are Thrash. They are widely known as one of the 'Big 4 Of Thrash' along side Metalica, Megadeth and Anthrax but are clearly the more aggresive of that little group.

Though it really shouldn't be a good idea to catogarise Metal indeffinate, as most bands write songs that are a huge departure from the steriotypical view of thier genre. Iron Maiden for example have 'The Journeyman', which is an entirly acoustic song, and 'Changes' by Black Sabbath isn't exactly the most doomy, gloomy, riff heavy composition in thier arsenal :P

Uhh. Dream Theater, Tool, Children of Bodom, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Meshuggah, Lacuna Coil, NIGHTWISH!!!!, Dimmu Borgir, HammerFall, OPETH!!!

There are more that I listen to, but those are the most prominent ones.

Wow, how long has this been here and I haven't posted anything?...

I'm just going to post a bunch of metal bands I like, seeing how right now I'm listening to more old school crust punk at the moment...

Cannibal Corpse
Amon Amarth
Behemoth
The Berzerker
Morbid Angel
Mortician
Dethklok
Mayhem
Immortal
Burzum
Bloodbath
Decapitated
Napalm Death
Cephalic Carnage

There's other stuff...but thats all I can think of at the moment.

I don't like Dimmu Borgir...I agree with whoever said they are an embarresment to Black Metal, as well as Cradle of Shit.
