Playstation Metal Gear Solid 4 thread

I had a few alerts (purely from the beginning getting the gear and such... I'm crap at that point. XD)

Guess I'll have to retry, the bosses were pants though on the boss extreme... It's the fodder that are a thorn in my side. :O Funny how easy that Liquid fell to me, no trouble at all... Shockingly. :gasp:

Absolutely brilliant game. Best game out at the moment. The story is intense. The graphics are amazing.

The gameplay doesn't really add anything new but I think by now that people aren't playing MGS solely for the gameplay. You must be playing for the story. The ending sequence is beautiful and really ties up the series for me. It explains pretty much everything. Brilliant game.

Got it today... and I must say, AWESOME!!!!!!!11111111

I'm currently about 2 hours into the game on Big Boss Hard. Its gameplay and storyline are both great. I think the combat is the most integrated and fluid yet. Octocamo just makes the stealth more believable, and means that you don't have to go into your inventory to change camo, unlike in Snake Eater. As for the range of weapons... mindblowing. It's a tough cookie on hard, but that cookie is crunchy and delicious once you bite into it. :cookie:

It's quite different to MGS3 in terms of gameplay. You can no longer just run through each area with ease, unlike MGS3; you take much more damage. And it's different to MGS1 and 2, since the guards can see further than 10m.

I remember in MGS1 when you shot a guard, then hide in a box; the guard would still say - 'Just a box'.....

Not to forget that oil drums are cooler than cardboard boxes. You actually have alot of opportunities to use them.
I agree. I've been killed many times until I got the hang of the stealth system, and even then, it's hard if you get caught. Big improvement in terms of difficulty, I think.

Also, how does the in-game music contraption work?

I presume you mean the iPod? If not just ignore me. :neomon:

Well, select the iPod and while highlighted in the items menu, press down on the right analog stick about 4 or 5 times and you should be taken to track one of your current collection of music. Once you get the hang of it a bit you can try shuffles, repeats, specific artist's music etc...

Hope that helps. :monster:

Thanks, I got it.

Also, the range of weapons is amazing. Not sure what the difference between a XM8 and a M-17 is though, apart from their appearance. Both futuristic battle rifles.

Unfortunately there aren't many differences in a lot of the games weapons. It was nice at first to see such a great variety, but over time you'll come to use only a select few. Me I just basically use the Patriot, .50 cal, and tranq gun.

I don't have the patriot but I tend to use a variety of weapons, when not fussed over being heard/seen I'll use stuff like the Mk.23, the machine gun with 200 round capacity (i forget the name) the shotgun with 8 round capacity, the SVD and the M82A2.

When I don't want to be caught I use all the stun and tranq guns or alternatively I use the silenced weapons.

Yeah but I'm often at long range, but pistol shots are easier than rifles I find, many cuz of lasersight and the 'head'.

I don't know why they are taking so long to release the password for the 1911...its just gonna be a normal pistol and by now I think most people have obtained the better weapons, like Patriot, Thor, and Long Barrel Desert Eagle...by the time they release it I doubt I'll ever give it a shot (no phun originally intended).

For those of you who use MGO, what are your names on it? Maybe with a few people involved we could have a huge deathmatch.

My name on there is FFGuy btw.

They finally released the 1911 password. Kinda useless now though since the weapon isn't half as good as others that most players have unlocked, like the Patriot, Thor, Long Barrel Desert Eagle. and so on.

Character name on it is Rene Skylar (I wonder where I got that from?) and still havent got the damned expansion...

I sooo loved this game! I've played MGS1, 2 and Portable Ops. I skipped three and went directly to four and I must say I was stunned. The whole CQC system of three was new to me since I hadn't play that game so I was like WOW!!!! Snake can do that?!

The graphics are just beautiful, the maps are huge and the soundtrack is just amazing! Not to mention the story! It just kicks ass! Seriously, I think this is one of the best games I've ever played! (along with Chrono Trigger/Cross, FF7, FF10 and some other ones which I can't remember ^_^; )

I had always wondered about Vamp! Seriously, he just
never seemed to die! I even believed he was a vampire or had some sort of supernatural power....I mean, he got shot in the head twice! Once with a pistol, once with the PSG1, you drowned him, snake shot him again in the head in MGS4, Raiden pierced him with his katana.....and he still didn't die? When I fought against him I was like "how in the world am I supposed to kill him?!?!?"

Oh yeah, my character name in MGO is Lightleonheart! See ya online whenever:P I just need more practice.....not playing MGS4 for months is sure bound to affect me....>_<

A few weeks ago I completed MGS1-4 one after the other and I personally found 4 to be the weakest personally. Just never reached the heights of awesomeness that the first three did. The gameplay itself was pretty much perfect with Acts 1, 2 and 4 packed with lots of great stuff to go through with only the other acts to be a bit of a dissapointment on some levels particulary the last one. And the new camo system was great.

The story as well was a bit weaker than the previous games and although it did have some great twists some of it was a bit meh like some of the Naomi and Octacon sections. It did do a good job of explaining how Vamp (to an extent) and Liquid Ocelot became what they are and it did tidy up pretty much all of the loose ends, Ocelot's last scene was class.

Overall it was a great game and with the core series of games I rate them MGS1 > MGS3 > MGS2 > MGS4.
