Hey, I'm trying to find a job, down here in Australia. A job in the gaming area. For those of you who can help, I live in the Hawkesbury area. Any job in gaming (except for in Big W) will greatly appreciated, oh yeah, please no spaming like, sorry can't help you.

Well, consider this. Go to whatever gaming store is in your area and look at the people they have working there. Do any of them look like they are any younger then in their early 20s? Yeah, exactly.

If you've already found a gaming store to hand your resume into and allegedly know people who can manipulate them into hiring you somehow (which is a pretty ridiculous notion), then why did you make a thread asking people if they knew of any gaming stores?
 
well, i can't be bothered with whole resume thing, i just want to rock up, they say, 'please sign out this form' and i'll be on my merry way, and i have to wait, and chances are, I won't get the job

and by letter, i mean, letter of recommendation
 
Youre too young to be employed. Its illegal isnt it? And I dont think that gaming store was serious to be honest with you. Theres no way theyd employ someone younger then 16.
 
Why do you even want a job at 14 anyway? At that age, pretty much everything you need is bought for you.
And yeah, you're far too young to even be considered for employment. Get a paper round if you're that desperate.

In Australia the minimum age of employment is 13 (and even younger if they are working for a family business) but there are so many restrictions for people under the age of 15 on how long they can work, when they can work, what they can do etc that no one is really that willing to hire them beyond fast food joints that need someone to work a few hours on Saturday.
 
Ermmm, working in a Game store doesn't mean sitting around and playing video game demos all day. There is a lot to do and working at a game store can get pretty boring. Also they wouldn't hire you right on the spot. You need some cashier experience as well as some costumer experience.

I use to work at Gamestop for about two years. The Gamestop was located in the centered of the mall so we got most of the traffic. (EBgames was upstairs as well.) It gets stressful on Saturday nights. Kids would run in and knock down sections. Moms love leaving their kids their and except us to baby sit them. I'm sure in Australia stores as well you have to take time to organize sections. To do the entire PS2 used section took about 2-3 hours. A-Z perfectly. Also just knowing Final Fantasy games isn't enough, or just role playing games. You need to know a large variety of games and need to keep updated on upcoming games. You need a little knowledge about upcoming games to tell costumers about them. Also most game stores push subscriptions and preorders. It's not as easy as you think.

As said above with the age thing it is the same here in the US. Most game stores don't have 16-18 year olds working. Most of the employees are usually 18 and over. The one I worked at had men in their 30s and 40s.

That's really pathetic. If you have that kind of a lazy attitude about a job, what makes you think anyone will hire you or that you'll keep the job? At that age everything is handed to you anyway, and apparently you think jobs will be handed to you as well if you're hoping for your friends to recommend you. And no gaming store is going to take someone inexperienced in customer service, cashiering, inventory, etc.

Bingo. Stores don't typically hire kids your age unless they're supermarkets or fast food places. Kids your age are typically unreliable and have bad availability due to school. Game stores aren't pure win, either. You're doing inventory stuff constantly, arranging games, putting back misplaced stuff, dealing with idiot mothers who come in trying to buy games for their kids or people whose Xbox 360's are malfunctioning. Plus, if you work in a chain store like Gamestop or EB Games, there's the added pressure of always trying to get people to reserve games, and they look at your performance in that and if you're not selling enough your ass is dropped.

No, don't you need some letters from other people that say stuff about you, that you put in your CV? Anyway, they are friends of the family.

And I'm sorry, but I didn't know, geez, didn't to try to make me look bad
 
Ummmmm, well I'm from Aus, 15 years old and I work in a cafe. But anyway, you want gaming?? EB-Electronics Boutique, best place for games and if your 14 you should be accepted, if theres a job available. But I could be wrong!!!
