Mature or 18+?

Not only do I love to write, but I love reading the works of others. And I will openly admit that I love reading smut. I don't understand why (possibly because I'm mere than a virgin?) , but I do. I've also written some of my own. I know I'm mature enough to handle it; I don't laugh and I'm one of the very few people who don't even get turned on by reading it (not that that would be an immature feature). On some websites such as LiveJournal, I tend to come across this: "You must be 18+ to view [story, poem, etc] or else..". I know adults who are a lot more immature than I have ever been in my life. So I think it's a little unfair to just assume that everyone over the age of 18 will be able to contain themselves with any type of smut. I think it would make a lot of sense to allow anyone who can handle it. No matter what age.

I'm not complaining or whining etc. I don't actually care so much to the point where I demand or even want change. I just want to know your opinions on this.

Smut? Meaning poems, journals, sex stories?

Well, I love reading stories about sex, to be quite blunt. Romantic but sexual at the same time. I go online sometimes to read them, it's not a big deal, really. Alot of people do it, ya know? I don't see what the big deal is.

But, with the 18+ thing, I think that's there due to most anyone under that age is not really...looked good upon. I wouldn't want my 16 year old child reading detailed stories about romance and sex. =/. I dunno...just seems weird.

The thing is, while most people who 'are' just over the age of 18 are still immature towards this matter, you can't rule out the fact that there are most certainly a lot more immature and naive children under the age of 18.

Up until the age of 18 you're still in high school just about and mummy and daddy are still looking after you and I really doubt that any parent would like their children reading that kind of material, but when you're that young I think they would be more mortified to find that you're reading such things.

Most parents want their children to be safe and although kids can get their hands on many other sources of information and then act upon them, it doesn't mean the world should just give up and say, "Go for it", and then pull down such barriers on certain sites that restrict certain age groups from viewing.

I don't think it's right that any child under the age of 17 should even be thinking about it or wanting to read about sex. Fair enough you're curious and all, but it's really not suitable for that age group in my opinion. =/ There's more than plenty enough time to go doing such things later on when you're head is screwed on a tad tighter.

It's not that I'm curious, it's that reading that material is different. I don't do it, I don't watch it, so I read it. At least, that's what I think it is.

Anyway, people under 18 have been having sex for years. Back then, they've even started families and getting married at my age or younger. The reason for my bringing this up to simply prove how "normal" (I guess is the word) it is. But I understand where you're coming from. I wouldn't want my little sister reading anything sexual. The reason is, because I don't want her to over think things and want to go out and have sex or do anything sexual at 14 or 16 etc. Other than that, I'll be fine with whatever she reads. Myself however, I can trust.
