I was just wondering if anyone here makes games? Anything from Indie games to Mods or even anyone who's a pro. Well you all play games (i assume) so why wouldn't you make them? :P

I'll go ahead and move this to Rocket Town for you as it seems more fitting there. ;)

I've tried my hand at making a few with RPG Maker, I've never completely finished one or gotten really that far but yeah I have tried it and I quite enjoyed it I might add, I might try making a new one soon.

Cool. I did Interactive Systems and Video Games Design at University. It was a waste of time now I make website lol. I do dabble in my spare time though (making websites is getting a bit boring).

That was the problem. We didn't really make any lol. Well not as many as you'd expect. The first year was the most pointless. We did no programing just design and most of it was irrelivant crap. I think we made a game using Macromedia director in the second year. That was quite fun I still have it somewhere. We also did more C++ programing although it was such a large jump from the very basics to making a 2D game mine ended up being crap. Same with third year as we jump straight into Direct3D and I had even less of a clue what I was doing!!!

Anyway since then I've been teaching myself and I've learnt a hell of a lot more than I ever did at University.

Theres gotta be some more game makers on here somewhere!!!!

A lack of skill or interest maybe? I dunno. The idea of making games doesn't appeal to me much as far as programming goes. I could enjoy creating and designing the concept art for characters and settings, though.

Fair enough. I guess there does seem to be more artisty people on here. Although now days artists are extremely important and so are writers. There definatly is a lack of good writers within the industry.

I would say I've tried making a game but it was more designing rather than making. Anyway, I was on Maya for about an hour and didn't have a clue what to do, however, if I had a tutorial on designing characters for a game in Maya I'm sure I would have succeeded. :monster:

Well we covered maya allot over the three years I was at university and we only just scratched the surface of its potential. Very powerful but also very complicated!!!
I found this tutorial on maya that looks pretty good. If your still interested!
http://www.expertrating.com/courseware/MayaCourse/MAYA-Tutorial.asp

It'll teach you the basics. You'll want to look at the polygon modeling section mainly. As games dont use Nurbs and such.

My ex did a course on computer game making, it isnt the easiest business to get into. He ended up leaving because it was too much pressure. Plus he couldnt understand his teacher lol.

I've been involved kinda with them :P A couple of guys at school make little rpgs and such and they come to me to make the music. :)
I dunno if that count's But i've made music for about seven 20-30 hour little games, and some of it's kinda rubbed off on me.
I also help with making the storyline the dramatic stuff mainly pre-battle, battle, death etc, etc...

They use Dark basic for their games it's a mid level program i guess lol. I use Orion Pro and magix music maker to make my music. I have a dvj-1000 pioneer turntable, mep-7000 dual player pioneer, DJM-1000 mixer, EFX-1000 effector for my turntable. I also have a korg Pa2XPro for my keyboard, Yamaha Beech Custom Professional Drumset, and a guitar (not a very good one :P) In case you were wondereing what i use for my music.

I use Rpgmaker 2003 and Rpgmaker VX. I work alone (because I'm a loser and no-one wants to help me!) and have two projects on the go. I've finished neither of them, and both are on hold for now.

The first project I started when I was very young (started out as random dreams when I was younger and I later grouped them together into a story), and finally had the program to make it a couple of years ago. It is still not even half way through, and because I started it when I was very young I am now not very happy with a lot of the plot elements, place names, ideas in general, so it needs a LOT of work.

My second project I started recently on VX. This one is much more interesting and I'm wanting to take my time on this one rather than rushing into a dead end. Set on earth (mainly the Mediteranean) during the late Bronze Age. Still working on the story and characters etc, but I plan to have superhero type characters living within this world. As well as Moses as a playable character! lol. I'll work on it as I progress through the year, as I happen to be studying several elements of the Bronze Age at university, so will learn more about them and will be able to recreate such elements in my game. At least that is the idea. Sort of acts as work too then! Bonus!

Cool infinite. Dark basics what I first started using when I got into game making. Very easy to make a simple 2d or 3d game. Moved onto bigger and better things as even the pro version can be limited. As for the music, half of that stuff I've never heard of lol, your drum kit sounds good though.

Now thats a funky way to learn the Bronze age Argor! Well not learn it but help it stick lol. You'll have to let us know when its finished!

Forgive me if it sounds like a stupid question, but I just began my studies in computer engineering, and will be taking C++ for next year.
I'm interested in making games or helping out to make them in the future.
Are there some good sites for guiding one in making games even if their simple.Or browser type games like the RPG engine here in the forum.

I started making games since 9 years ago, but never finished anything. Back then, there was something called Megazeux, which makes games that look like they came right out of DOS, so compared with lots of stuff you can do with even flash and 3D graphics, it was considered primitive.

Interestingly enough, there's still a community that thrives on Megazeux now, and they still make such games. I'm making a text adventure game with it, but those games can be the hardest to make because you need a good storyline for it to work.

I worked for 6 years on a game with a group of guys. We went about as far as we could without some sort of Major Funding. At one point we even had Kurt Schilling interested (Boston Redsox Pitcher). But it fell though.

I did conceptual art, illustrations, Textures and helped a bit with the development.
Had a grand time working on it and as I said, pored 6 years of my life into it. Oh well.
At one point we where even on a couple MMORPG sites as a top 5 most anticipated game. But they didn't know we didn't have funding yet. Only so far you can take something without LOTS of money and paying people to do it full time.
