I've seen FF trailers and I'd really like to give RPGs a try, but I'm used to games like SH, RE, Tomb R. and DMC. Can you guys recommend a RPG somehow similar... like, with a combination of puzzle/exploration/platforming... and character driven (I know in some RPGs you can even customize your character but I preffer to follow the main character's story). Is there a FF or other RPGs like this?

Help, please?

If you have something like a Playstation 2 (or reverse-compatible PS3), there are quite a few options. One to start out with is Final Fantasy X. It really is a good game.

If you want good graphics and a more modern game, you might want to try Final Fantasy XIII. Though you'll need a PS3 for it... (or 360, though the PS3 version is said to be a little bit better)

Final Fantasy XIII is quite fast paced in terms of battle system. Not much in the way of puzzles though.

The Wild Arms games have a more turn based system, but with plenty of puzzles to keep you happy on that front.

Valkyrie Profile 2 has a moderately paced battle systems, with a few puzzles. They're pretty simple though. So for fast paced battle systems, choose FF XIII and Valkyrie Profile 2, and for puzzles, Wild Arms games. But not 4. 4 is awful and half the main cast unbearable. -__-

Anything but FFXIII to be honest, it's pretty awful. I would go with Rogue Galaxy. Fast paced combat, very fast paced, decent puzzles, and a pretty good story. Also, flying boats in motherfucking space. :mokken:

Also, Dark Cloud 1, and Dark Cloud 2. You may really want to give those a try. I loved those games.

Rouge Galaxy was a good one, but I didn't get far, because I only rented it. It takes quite a while to finish, so I reccomend buying it.

And my favorite game when I was younger...Paper Mario 2!
It's actually called Paper Mario: The Tousand-Year Door, and it's for the Nintendo Gamecube. I would highly reccomend it to anyone because it's so awesome. There is a good deal of platforming and some puzzles too. The gameplay is unique and the story is very interesting. The first Paper Mario was good to, and is probably easier to get because it's on the Wii's Virtual Console, but if I were you I'd go for either Rouge Galaxy or Paper Mario 2.

You can have a go at what is arguably one of the best PS2 RPGs ever, which is Dragon Quest VIII. It doesn't offer much in the way of platforming, but it does come with a few interesting puzzles and the biggest selling point of all; a huge world that you can just run around in, looking for concealed areas, concealed treasure chests etc. It's not exactly free-roaming, but it's probably about as much freedom as you can get in a Japanese role-playing game. The Dragon Quest games as a whole are great value for money. You get so many playing hours out of each of them.

Rogue Galaxy as mentioned, deserves a go if you have a PS2 ready. It's definitely rather overlooked. Visually it's one of the best you can get on the PS2 and it has a very action-like battle system that is actually a delight to use. Strategy comes in against boss battles and certain monsters, while there are slight platforming elements in the jumping and climbing. Other JRPGs I can suggest are Valkyrie Profile 2, perhaps the Star Ocean games and of course, Secret of Mana. It looks very similar to the Zelda games and plays similarly, but with the RPG statistical elements.

But really, it's entirely up to you on what you want to try out with first. If by looking at the gameplay videos you like the look of the game, then by all means try it out. They do look complicated at first, but you'll get the hang of things as you go along. You can also try out the WRPGs such as Mass Effect and Fallout as alternatives if you want.
