And I'm not entirely sure what to get. I had thought the new Red Faction, but I'm not that fond of sandbox games, so that's out of the window. I've got mostly shooter games (both Gears, Halo 3, Resident Evil 5, Dead Space etc.) so I want something different. I'm thinking The Last Remnant, or maybe Infinite Undiscovery. I'm leaning towards the former, since I've heard that the battle system isn't that good in Infinite Undiscovery.

Have you given Mass Effect a try?

It was one of the first games I got for the 360, and it kept me entertained for a good while. It's got a decent mix of RPG and FPS elements, and it's definitely worth at least a rent, if you haven't already.

no,no,no.no last remnant.Try to get......final fantasy iv the ater years.it seems like a good continuation of final fantasy iv.I know iv rocked so it would not hurt to see what that is about

All the action is in third person though, so technically there are no FPS elements ;) I'd still second Mass Effect if you haven't already played it. Definitely the best RPG in this generation so far if you ask me. If you have your mind set on a JRPG, I'd go for Blue Dragon. Or if you can wait a couple of weeks, pick up Tales of Vesperia when it's released in the UK by the end of the month.

Im playing last remnant now and its pretty fun, kinda big learning curve on the battle system but stick with it and the pay offs are huge! i really love the boss fights in it so far, just be ready to be doin a shit ton of level grinding though cause the bosses are freakn tough as nails. Also remember to turn on turbo mode for leveling, it speeds up the fighting clips.

If you end up getting last remnant get it for the pc, i heard the loading screens are brutal on 360 and some very minor glitches but thats about it nothing to serious.

Last Remnant and Mass Effect are IMO 2 of the best games on the 360. Both have great storylines, cool characters and excellent battle systems. I thought I wouldnt like Mass Effect due to the shooting-em-up element, but the rest of them game makes up for it. Id say maybe give Star Ocean aswell as it is more awesome then the PS2 version lol.

Well i haven't really played Last Remnant, but i have played Infinite Undiscovery, the battle system actually isn't that bad, just if you hold a button you unleash an attack, and if you continuously press the button the continuously attack >.> And as you level up you get new attacks that you can assign to a button to hold and unleash it. It has a pretty elaborate storyline as well, and not giving away any spoilers but the ending makes absolutely no sense.

I love both The Last Remnant and Infinite Undiscovery. With The Last Remnant, it's definitely a different kind of element from your typical tactical-RPG. It actually took me awhile to get really into it because I wasn't too fond of the battle system at first, but then I realized that the game is entirely one of a kind and so I gave it another shot and now I'm addicted to it. =/ So addicted that I even restarted the game when I couldn't beat this one boss in Disc 2. You REALLY have to pay attention to your units' stats and the Battle Rank. Important fact: The lower your BR is, the better off you are in the game. A lot of guides failed to mention that. -.- So yeah, it's a little frustrating that in order to succeed in battles (because trust me, the battles get to be extremely challenging it's almost ridiculous) you have to be under-leveled but at the same time gaining a lot of stats for your characters. It's a little hard to explain, but I suppose you'll see when you play it.

As for Infinite Undiscovery...meh, it's a good story but battle system still frustrates me. You have to press a lot of buttons and when you need to heal and open your inventory, the enemies can still attack you. I really had a hard time getting through the beginning of the game. In fact I was actually quite lucky. But I've got the hang of it now. It's fun but there's just too much going on sometimes.

I recommend getting The Last Remnant first to be honest.

If you're looking for some RPGs you can try:

1) Mass Effect- Great story, fantastic visuals, the action and shooter vibe to this game makes it very different to your average shooter game or JRPG- as this is a WRPG. You can make your own decisions in the game.

2) Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion- If you prefer a bit of fantasy with lush graphics and plenty of things to keep you occupied for hours. It's first person so you'll feel right at home. You can choose to be good or evil.

3) Fable 2- similar to Elder Scrolls, but third person.

4) Star Ocean IV- A Star Wars turned Japanese if you think that way. Battle system is real time and rather dynamic. Your protagonist is a bit of a perv at times and their doll like faces are a bit odd, and you may need patience with the grinding.

5) Fallout 3- Basically Elder Scrolls set in a post-apocalyptic Washington DC.

6) Eternal Sonata- It's one of the prettiest 360 games ever! But linear.

7) Lost Odyssey- closest to Final Fantasy you can get on 360, a bit slow, but the plotline is great and you'll grow attached to the world in LO.

Infinite Undiscovery is not too bad, but it can be frustrating.

Last Remnant I don't know as I've never played it, and the story isn't that great.
