In All FF's you have your Level up system you use to...of course level up your character and have them learn abilities and whatnot. In FFVII it was Materia, In FFVIII it was Junctions, FFX you had your Sphere Grid and in FFXII you had the License System. So, has anyone seen or heard about what it's like in FFXIII? Is it diffulcult to grasp? If you've seen/heard about it, what do you think about it?

FFXIII has the Crystarium system. Exactly how it works I am not entirely sure because I haven't played the game yet. But I can describe the general gist of it.

Basically it resembles FFX's Sphere Grid system the most. In FFXIII, your characters don't necessarily level up and gain predetermined stat boosts (just like in FFII and FFX).

After each battle, your characters gain CP (Crystal Points) which is a currency in the Crystarium system to unlock abilities and stat boosts (just like FFX's Sphere Grid) using branching routes.

EDIT: If you had no trouble working through the Sphere Grid system, you shouldn't have too much trouble with this. I quite like the idea because it means I can customise my characters in more unique ways.

Ahh so it's like X's sphere grid eh? Interesting. I liked the sphere grid in X because you can make them learn whatever you please but, I just wanted someother way of gaining "EXP" you know? New game I think it should have new leveling up system something fresh and whatnot. I'm fine with the sphere grid but I was kindof hoping for something different but, guess it beats just getting EXP :monster:

But i've been doing some searching and I came across this:
"its similar in the sense that theres a 'grid like' path you follow, and nodes that you activate... outside of that they are completely different.... from what i heard, in FF13 you cant really branch off and your path is linear..."
So I guess it isn't exactly like X's
Also here's a video I found maybe that clears it up a bit.

Hmm, I never heard that before, that customisation may actually be rather linear in the Crystarium system. Then again, I'm basing off what I have read before in the news section when FFXIII's Crystarium system was covered.

It will be interesting to see where that short description was from.

Oh, right sorry about that. I dunno if it's valid or not, I was just kind of searching. I haven't played the game so I don't exactly know if it's true however, I just followed the video since it seemed more logical because that person has the game and whatnot.
I got it from another forum thing but if you want to look at it here ya go =D The member that said it was Horton23 if you would like to see his full answer etc.

There ya go Elena^^

I liked the sphere system in FFX. I have wanted another game using a similar system, maybe I have my wish?
We will have to see, I am waiting for my PS2 to come in the post because I want to replay FFX even give FFx-2 a second chance and I've never played FF12 so I've got them to do before I try this game. By then there will be plenty of info on this crystal system.

I really can't wait for this game but im just as excited about playing the older games again.

I also enjoyed the Final Fantasy X sphere grid, but I also have read about how you can't branch off into other character's sections like you could in FFX. You are stuck into a more linear path.

Oh I love the sound of that.

It is my favourite system. >.<

I loved getting to choose what I learnt next and what have you.

Not too fussed if the path is linear or not. If it'll still be similar to FFX's system then I'm stoked. >.<

i don't think it be to linear maybe a bit more so then ffh10 but doupt it be 100% liner because if it is then it a wast of time to have it and you should just gain and exp and lvl right away.
well that my opinion on this subject
uh and i love the sphere gride

This video explains things pretty well for those who don't know:

It does look a lot like the Sphere Grid and I for one welcome that, kind of seems like a cross between that and the job systems of old. Not exactly sure how switching between them will work in battle though.

^^ I posted the exact same video a while back ago xD if you didn't read my post xD
But yes, FFXIII leveling up system is like X's. Maybe you would switch in the same way you can switch dresspheres in X-2? maybe? idunno, either way, the video does seem to answer most of the questions about FF XIII's leveling up system.

^ Sorry, I must just be going blind.

From a couple of reviews I've read on the Japanese version of the game people have compared it to the dressphere system. My main concern really is the "capping" of abilities until certain plot points in the game. Going around levelling up for hours won't have many benefits early on it seems but I can see why that would add to the challenge of the game as I've already heard from a few people that it's quite possibly the hardest in the series.

It does seem a mix between FFX and X-2, should be quite interesting.
If there is a cap though as you say I'm not sure I like that idea. Yes there's a challenge in that, but in my opinion you can only make a Final Fantasy game easy if you take the time to stick in one area to level up.

I think we should be left with this choice, I personally would get bored so don't do this, but for people that struggle and odn't mind taking all that time to level up then let them have that choice.

regarding the first post: and ff9 had pretty cool system too, leveling with you armor
and yes ac1dvenus i think its similar to ff10 and 10-2, and i think it will be interesting!
