Final Fantasy XIII developers Yoshinori Kitase and Motomu Toriyama have told the EU PS Blog they were both confused at Square president Yoichi Wada’s recent comments on the future of the RPG series.

Last month, Wada said the release of FFXIII could see the death of “this type of game”, but Kitase-san and Toriyama-san said Wada’s comments were taken out of context.

“We don’t know exactly what he meant by that. We don’t really know what he meant by this style of game,” they both said.

“If you consider that during Final Fantasy XIII’s development, at peak time the team consisted of over 300 people. It was a huge team, plus it took a several long years to get the game finished. So, if Mr. Wada meant that we would never make another Final Fantasy title with the similar number of people, taking as long as FFXIII did, we would agree.”

The duo suspect what Wada may have meant there would be smaller development teams in future projects.

“Obviously in the future we want to be much more efficient,” they explained. “Having worked on XIII, we feel that we have got much better at making good games for high definition consoles. In the future our teams will be smaller and more effectively run.

“We suspect that is what Mr. Wada meant by his statement.”
Final Fantasy XIII releases a month from today in the west for PS3 and 360.

They're not the only ones. I tend to have trouble comprehending Wada's words as well without having to take his sentences apart and analysing them like lines of a poem.

I'm glad to hear that the team have grown adapted to developing for HD consoles. It would be good to see them busy at work at future titles such as Versus XIII, FFXIV and the inevitable FFXV without too much time taken on learning the hardware.

Well it's good to know that it cleared it up a bit because I was confused when Wada has said that as well. I mean since the 360 and PS3 are more complex an' whatnot i'm sure that's why it took so long but, it's good to know that their will probably be more efficient when it comes to other games /projects on these consoles since they got the idea of it an' whatnot.
