THAT'S RIGHT. The very mad villain of FF6 versus the previously-good-went-mad villain of FF7. First of all, STATE YOUR REASONS.
I'd pick.... Kefka! Kefka doesn't have a big backstory ("One experiment involving Magitek is tested on Kefka, one of Gestahl's generals. The experiment is successful and Kefka is given magical powers, but his brain is warped by the energy and he becomes a madman."), but he's kinda original and his quotes are lol. But first, lets look at the ressemblences.
  • Both have been experimented on
  • Both killed the ruler of the greatest force in their world
The best line about the 2 which i found in a fan-flash...
Sephiroth tried to destroy the world... Kefka actually did it!!!
What do you think?tell meee

Oh I think you can guess who I voted for without even looking at the Poll.

KEFKA!

Evil, Mad, Capable, and without Remorse.
I Go with Kefka because well, he is my favorite for sure, but I think given the Disk Space (like the PS1) they could have developed his story even more and also give people cool CG scenes of him Causing Maham and destroying the world making him seem that much more powerful and menacing. As it is he is a Sprite on a screen with a familiar laugh. But once he sucks down all that Magicite, he becomes all powerful.

Yes, He did actualy destroy the world.

EDIT: Wow, 218 views and only one post and two votes. I thought there was almost 11,000 people signed on to these forums.
I say we close this down and make it official. KEFKA FOR THE WIN!

depends on how you look at it. If it was a fight between he two Sephy would win hands down. but when it comes to whos the better villain, it is Kefka. He was a truly evil character who was not afraid of fighting dirty.

Thought this was interesting, another thread that is similar.

Kefka has nothing on Sephiroth, Sephy's long silver hair out weighs Kefka's 'do' and as for their weapons, Sephy's Mesamune is better by far...also, check the avitar (Sephiroth finally gets his good counterpart)

It takes more than a Hair Do and a Long Sword.
Kefka gets things done. He will poison a River to kill off an entire kingdom, and actualy destroy and change the world he lives in without a moment's pause.
Sephiroth is a badass for sure, but as far as maniacel and twisted baddies go, who do some serious damage, Kefka is King.
:P

Sorry but Kefka doesn't need a weapon to kick ass... Besides, Kefka has more style than that.
Sephiroth
(well, Jenova acting as Sephiroth) stabs President Shinra
.
Kefka
boots Ghestahl off the Floating Continent
!

And Kefka laughs while he does everything! He is insane! Unprecitable, only he (or even not he) can predict what he can do next.

Also, as stated Kefka did manage to destroy the world... He wrecked the face of the planet, and moved and destroyed many places.... The balance of the world was lost and the world fell into ruin. I'm not sure if the planet could easily recover from that loss, and it must have taken a long time for that planets inhabitants to get a quality of life similar to that which they had before Kefka appeared. Also...
All the espers of the world vanish
if I'm not mistaken, so because of Kefka's actions a whole race of supernatural beings is wiped out!

Also, he managed to set up a religious cult that followed him and worshipped him as a god. He actually became a god!

Now Sephiroth wasn't a bad villain... I like the Nibelheim incident... How a great soldier found out the truth and the truth turned him insane and a monster...

But compared to Kefka? Sorry, I have to agree with the majority of people here and say that Kefka was a more unique villain, in apearance, in motive, in character. Silver haired characters with big swords had been done before in the past, and have been done since. Insane clowns with a love for thoughtless killing is not seen in the FF universe at any other point (apart from perhaps Zorn and Thorn, who still are no match for Kefka).

Kefka rocks. He didn't give a damn about anything. He just wanted to hate, hate hate!!! Destroy, destroy destroy! Bwuahahahahaha!

I prefer Sephiroth. What I like about him is... His nature.
During all the story, Sephiroth is that intimidating and misteryous figure, like a superior entity. And while Kefka is more of a human villain, Sephiroth is a combination of human with monster.
I mean, he is human in relation to his hate for Cloud, but at the same time, he is a type of monster because of his connection with Jenova(his body and mind merged with Jenova).

And Sephiroth's real goal is much cooler than Kefka IMO. While Kefka wants to make everyone around him suffer and die, Sephiroth simply wants to destroy everything.
After merging with Jenova, he gained her instinctual nature of destruction, and now... Now, he wants to take control of the Lifestream, to turn the planet in a dead vessel, and use it to travel the universe in search of other planets to destroy.
He wants to go from planet to planet, until there is nothing left. How badass is that?!

It's officially stated that he is "the new evolution of Jenova", and like her, he is practically a parasite who likes to destroy planets.
That's much more cool, than being the god of a single planet(like Kefka was).

The difference is... Kefka acheived it. Kefka DID become a god, had a cult of followers AND defaced the planet. All before he was killed. There is nothing to suggest that the world went back to normal after his death. Sephiroth was defeated in the end. He didn't get to use the planet to travel the cosmos and destroy other planets.

Sephiroth is by no means weak... But most of what we see in the game is him getting his mom to do it for him... To put it lamely. To put it right, he had good powers of control over other beings, could manipulate Jenova and all people with Jenova cells...

But Kefka, if he could ever attain such a power (and I'm pretty sure he'd be able to cook up some magic that did give him mind control, body control etc) he wouldn't use it to get everyone else to do things for him. To him that would bore him to death. No Kefka would much rather go out like the mad man he is and do something to amuse him. Kill people himself in some awesome way...

Remember that Sephiroth had to create a new body for him, in the Northern Crater. For that reason, he wasn't able to do things by himself, and this is why he used an extension of himself(Jenova's body).

And Kefka was a funny villain(in a good way), and was very powerful... But it's hard to take him seriously, really. Not because of his comedic personality, but the way he gained power.
Kefka didn't have a plan. The only reason why he was able to reach Thamasa, and later, the Floating Continent(and become a god by moving the statues), was because of Ghestal's plan, and orders.
During a big part of the WoB, Kefka was just a side-kick.
Hell, the only reason he was part of the Empire was because of Ghestal(everyone else in the Empire hated him).
Kefka is an entertaining villain, but he wouldn't be able to accomplish anything without the Emperor. This is why I find hard to take him seriously.

And before you say "Sephiroth wouldn't be anything without Jenova"... That's not the same thing. Jenova and Sephiroth merged together. During the time of FFVII they are basically, one and the same.
It would be more accurate to compare Jenova with Kefka's magic-power, instead of comparing Jenova with Ghestal.

Anyway, this is just my opinion. My intention is not to bash Kefka or anything.

I'd choose Kefka. He chooses to destroy the world just because he very well can.

Sephy is just a mindless drone. :/

Kefka! the best villian ever in Final Fantasy he defines the word evil in RPG.
Sephiroth is also cool but I don't know I just didn't think he was that great, he is considered evil only because he killed a loved character.

I voted for Sephiroth, and totally agree with voting him. But it was such a damn hard decision. First off you have Sephy who didnt technacally destroy the planet he came pretty damn close, and even all you Kefka lovers have to agree after Sephy was defeated the world didnt just jump back to normal either. All in all I think they are both pretty damn evil.:P

Well, how about we just count the amount of times either has been defeated by a kid with a "KEY BLADE"?!? Yeah, that's right, I WENT THERE!!

But seriously...Kefka, being the insane psychopath that he IS had much loftier (and possibly unattainable) goals than Ol' Sephy Head...he was after not just the destruction of the world (and certainly not to please some mother figure...>_>), but the utter annihilation of HOPE ITSELF! That's pretty fuct up right there. It's also neat because the very power he strives for in the game is ironically the power that drove him insane, HA! Also, a kickass god-like seraph form will always beat a shmucky angel missing a wing...

I dono, ladies and gents, this is a close one... i went with kefka because he DID destroy the world like in the quote. he had the magicite and all that stuff, but seph had the materia's. i have a feeling if destroying the world was between the two of them, if kefka can destroy a world with magic, he can destroy an ancient meteor spell. he also had a wicked nice tower too lol. but if it came to a fight though, seph would win hands down...unless kefka went all godlike on the one winged angel, like when "god cast lucifer to hell" lets hope seph dont throw an atma weapon lmao. thanx to -too much damage to count- indicator lol... (i never tried that, but ive heard on numerous occasions throwing the atma weapon was their deciding factor in that fight) o well, but theres my vote

This would be an extremely close fight. In my opinion God Kefka and AC Sephiroth tie for the third most powerful villain in FF spot. On the one hand if Kefka hits Sephiroth with light of Judgment its all over for the one winged angel, but Sephiroth is faster and more agile than Kefka, so he stands a good chance to dodge that. I wonder how Sephiroth's telekinesis would affect Kefka, as the god of magic he's a being of incredible strength, so it might not even work on him. I'm also curious as to whether or not Sephy's negative lifestream would affect him.

Hmmmmm. This is too close for me to call, I'm going to say they stalemate.

I voted Kefka, but Sephiroth could most certainly and easily destroy a planet. The meteor was never mean't to blow earth up, in fact Sephiroth wanted to use earth as a vessel. Either way God Kefka would probably come out victourious.
