Ok, so I pulled out & dusted off my FF VIII game & started playing it a couple days ago. I love the game, but had forgotten how long, boring & tedious it got drawing out magic from enemies. I have been trolling the internet & cannot seem to find if you can play through the game without junctioning the magic to your stats. I found I just don't have the patience anymore to sit there drawing for all 3 characters 100 draws to max out the various magics. It wouldn't be bad if you didn't have to max them all out at 100 to get good use out of them.

Does anyone know if this is feasible?

You dont need to draw to get max magic, i only draw early on in the game to give my characters a good boost. The best way to get loads of magic quick is to refine it from items using your gfs abilities. Shivas I-mag -rf for example will refine ice magic out of items. Every gf has one of these abilities, so learn them quick and you wont have to keep drawing.

Also certain magic will have better or less effect on specific stats. ie black magic for attack and white for health. Play around you dont need 100 to get a decent bonus.

Just Refine the items! To junction the rly powerful ones e.g. Demi use Diablos to refine steel orb or black holes!...or U can look 4 draw points! No need 2 draw them all from monsters...

It's possible but not recommended. Levelling is a highly inefficient method of stat maxing in this game. If you're desperate to avoid drawing magic from enemies, I'd recommend relying on refining items.

On the other hand, I'd recommend over-levelling. Enemies level-up with you, in this game, and higher-levelled enemies possess higher-levelled magic (i.e. a Bite Bug will possess Fire at low levels and Fira at higher levels). I ended up with Tornado and Quake magic before I entered Galbadia Garden for the first time (after Timber). If you over-level and then draw the stronger magic, you'll only have to draw that magic - say you're successful in drawing 100 tornadoes for each character. Junctioning this will ensure that you will not have to find another spell to strengthen that stat for a very long time, so it's more efficient in the long run.

It's possible, just play lots of cards and get Quezacolt Card Mod ability, you won't need to draw magic since most powerful magics can be obtained this way, although it will take a while to get the suficient number of cards.

And don't forget to make Shiva, Ifrit, Siren, Diablos and so on learn their respective magic refine abilities so you can convert items into magic. If all goes well you won't need to draw a single spell.

I wouldn't do that if I were you, I'll just be patient and draw magics from enemies, I'll just save those refinedable item to last unless it's necessary to use

I agree with the majority; refining from items is the more effective method I think.

I don't know why people get into one encounter and Draw until they get 100 of all spells though. I usually just draw once per character, per spell, and then beat the enemy, and repeat when I get into another encounter. Defeating more enemies gives you more AP, and that goes towards learning abilities for your GF.

BECAUSE the enemies level up with you, it doesn't really matter what level you are when you get to certain points of the game, they'll still be relatively evenly matched against you.

I agree with the others above just refine. You can farm AP on the beach near Balamb and Balamb Garden. Kill 2 fish (do not remember their name) get 6 AP a fight can kill em with one summon of Quezacotl and get the respective magic refining also get fish fins form them and with Shiva can refine those into Water decent magic to junction to strength for low lvls mainly the 7-13 range. And as far as drawing if ya have to (I personally think with refining your fine but I also go both ways) set the cursor on memory choose the respective enemies and spell to draw and hold X and change the channel. I usually am on here when doing that or watchin tv check back every 5 minutes lol.

Anywho, just combine the item refining, card refining and drawing 2 get there the fastest! Nobody said you couldn't do all 3...

@ Diesel
Those ground-fish you were talking about are called Fastitocalons, big ones are males and small are females (hence the "F" next 2 their name)

I can't even get Diablos. I just tried & got pummeled. Maybe my party isn't leveled enough yet. Squall is 17 w/1416 hpoints, Zell is 13 w/750 hpoints & Selphie is 11 w/597 hpoints. My GFs were even hitting him for 600+ per turn and he still wasn't knocked out, before he ripped my group apart.

Someone mentioned cards also, I have no idea how to play that crazy card game & was just going to ignore it. Can you not progress in the game without playing cards?

Best thing to do is get Selphie in the range of her limit during or before I always do it before. And now get in fight with him. Draw and cast gravity on him with Zell and Squall every turn and when people get low(Diablos has one damaging attack rest are gravity so they won't kill you) use Selphie's limit break and keep pressing do over until you get Full Cure. That will put you back at full health with everyone and as they lose health and Selphie gets low can rinse and repeat. (and if Selphie is low and limit doesnt pop us keep pressing triangle until it does it will come up eventually) I always fight him as soon as Cid gives over the magical lamp so Squall is some where in the lvl 16 range and Zell and Selphie around the 13-15 range. It is quite easy if you draw and cast Gravity on him eventually he will take less and less damage and as he does then you can slaughter him with a few hits or a good Shiva or whoever summon. Best thing to remember only one of his attacks can actually kill you the rest redice your health by fractions his main combo is Graviga(knocks you to 1hp) then the melee attack. Then would be a good time to have Zell and Squall draw and cast as you search for Full Cure with Selphie's limit. Try that and should kick his ass in 10 minutes or less I never time myself cause I don't play games with a stop watch lol. Good Luck!!!!

No, the card game is completely optional... however, many great items and magic can be rewarded from playing the card game, besides, it really isn't that difficult when you get the hang of it.

Beating Diablos is quite easy. Just draw blind and casty it on him, thn keep drawing and casting gravity until your GFs it does less than your GFs then use them. Make sure to heal your characters every now and then, although blinded, he can still hit you with a physical attack.

I dont think that you can do this game without junctioning magic. Plus you dont always have to draw 100 from a monster in one sitting. I actually really liked the junctioning system, I think that it would be cool if they employ it in another game somehow.

Ok thanks, I will give it a try. I can't seem to get water to attach to my el a/d. It only lets me add sleep & silence. Anyone know why?

Because if you are adding sleep and silence, it's status rather than elemental attack/defence that you are junctioning it to.

I'm gunna stick this in the help booth

It seems to be going along that way anyway. Feel free to make a thread about the joys of drawing in the VIII section, although I'm sure we already have one, unless it's been archived :wacky:
