Jumping the bandwagon --- supporting something or someone because you feel that everyone else likes them, but you personally do not. You support them because you think it will make you look....cool.

Either that, or you just want to play it safe in a debate and go along with the more popular one...

Have you ever done that? With anything?

I'm guilty of it, supporting the Chicago Bears last year. :P
Just 'cause they were doing so well....until they crashed and I revoked it.

ive never done it but ive seen it happen so many times its sad. one person wears a black hoody to school, the next day, everyones whearing a black hoody to school, even if they themselves hate it.

i think its in human nature to try and "fit in" so even if we don't like something we'll pretend we do so we dont stand out from the crowd.

...which I find sad. It's always been said and taught that we are all unique in society and unto ourselves. But more likely, in terms of fashion and whatever, it's all trend.

We all want to look 'cool' in some way, and the best way to do that is to blend in and support whatever else somebody is supporting.

I probably have at some point in my life. I can't really recall any specific situations where I've done it but everyone has been guilty of it at one point or another, intentionally or not. There have been a lot of times in my life where I haven't joined the bandwagon, so I really don't feel bad knowing that were a few times where I conformed.

I remember doing things like that when I was a kid, especially at my elementary school. I was homeschooled until fifth grade so I wasn't used to being at a public school. I found my own group of friends in middle school though and decided to stop trying to fit in with everyone else.

Nah. I've been into things that everyone else on the bandwagon likes about as much as I've been against them. I think overall everyone ought to just sit down and figure out what they like themselves and not even worry about what some other asshole thinks of it. I could care less if everyone and their monkey's left testicle are crazy about some stupid fad that I happen to like as well, and I can care less if these same people are going to think negatively of me for liking something else as well. My own hobbies, style of dress, my truck, my computer, my whatever else were all acquired because that's what I chose myself.

No, not really...I've never supported something I didn't want to support, definately not in order to be "cool" or "part of the scene/club/group/etc"

I don't go out of my way to show that I don't support something, either. I usually keep quiet nowadays and let them support whatever they want to support...it doesn't really matter, nor is it worth to get worked up over.

I dont really do things because my friends do.

However I have followed my friends out a couple of times to gigs and such which I didnt enjoy, I just wanted to get out.

There's not a single case in which I jumped on the bandwagon for. The only thing which could possibly be considered so, was growing out my hair. I outlasted everyone else, and stuck with it. I didn't do it to fit in, but I had noticed I liked the length.

I typically turn my nose up at people who do this for attention or popularity. I was quite happy being myself, even if I wasn't as popular as some others.

Lol… Nah, don’t feel guilty for supporting the Bears. They where a decent team last year, even though Rex Grossman played like rookie that Super bowl Sunday, but hey!… There’s always next year. :monster:

Anyway, to answer you question, I’m sure I have long ago as kid, but too long ago to remember what about. I never really remember jumping the bandwagon for popularity though, in fact, I tend to loose all respect for those who do.

a lot of people do this with sports teams, and it bothers me a lot. they act like they're hardcore fans of one team until they do bad, then they're a fan of the team with the best record. i guess this could apply to other things too, except i wouldn't call it jumping the bandwagon...more like following trends or fads.
