When Sephiroth takes her from the Reactor, he takes the metal head, and not her. Can someone explain this please?

And secondly... When you fight her for the first few times, what the hell are you fighting? Is it just like parts of her or what?

Well to be honest I'm not sure why he grabbed just her head. He really only needed her cells. But remember in the Shinra building Sephiroth took the rest of her body. So maybe at the time when he jumped he grabbed all he could, which was her head.

And yes when you were fighting her they were parts of her body. What parts exactly I have no idea.

A common misconception, one I'm glad to shed light upon.

Sephiroth took Jenova's real head (thus why her head shows up in AC). Why exactly he did this, who knows for sure. Anyways, what you are fighting is indeed just parts of Jenova's dead body, controlled by Sephiroth whom is little more than a very strong spirit in the Lifestream. When you 'see' Sephiroth in the game, you're actually seeing a piece of Jenova's body shape-changed by Sephiroth to look like him.

Since Sephiroth shares a genetic bond with the alien Jenova, he can control the individual cells, thus why it can shape-change. Whenever he decides it's a good time to leave the heroes in the dust, he tosses a finger or arm of Jenova at you then speeds off.

This portion of Jenova can grow, cells replicating at an exponential rate to form a deadly being. Then you fight it, damage it beyond it's ability to repair, or Sephiroth simply tires of the battle.

In any case, this is more or less the answer to your question. If you are not well-informed on the history of Jenova and what it is and the role it plays, please say so and I'd be more than happy to help you out.

until then,

Beat me too it yet again Mr.Mage. Bugger.

Cloud mentions that Jenova-BIRTH is the arm of Jenova, however I think this is the only part that was named in the game so its uncertain what the other parts were.

Are we talking about Neiblehiem (sp?), if so I always thought he removed the metal head so he could get to the body.............probably wrong.

Sephiroth only took Jenova's head because Cloud injured him before Sephiroth could free Jenova. Because of his injuries, he could only take the head, thus he cut it off and brought it with him. He wanted to take the whole thing, but he was physically unable to. I believe they go over this to a degree in Last Order and FF7 once Cloud realizes what really had happened.
