I was playing through FFXII the other day and I was trying out all the spells I haven't used (which is alot). So I was using Fire, Fira, Firaga, Thunder, Thundara, Thundaga, Blizzard, Blizzara, Blizzaga, Water, Aero.. Wait a mo', what about Watera and Waterga? Don't tell me I've forgotten to buy these spells. I check through my Sky Pirate's Den, nope, I have the Crystal already, which means that I do have all the spells. So where is Watera and Waterga? Why has the developers failed to include it? Can someone please enlighten me.

Note: In FFVIII there is also the lack of presence of Watera and Waterga, which is also puzzling.

FFVII lacked the water spell entirely, and IX also lacked Watera and Waterga. And I'm pretty sure that none of the predecessors to VII had it either, so why wasn't it in any of those?

Yeah, Twelve doesn't have -ra and -ga level spells for Water, just like Eight.

Some argue that it's not a big deal since it's a small subset of enemies that are actually weak to water, but that was no consolation to me with Famfrit blasted me with Waterja...at least I think that's who blasted me with Waterja. :wacky:

I'm not sure if there's a good reason beyond that, though...maybe they just got lazy.

I've pointed this about before recently, but to the best of my knowledge FFX is the only game where you can cast Watera/ga.
I can't remember it in FFVII and I haven't played FFIX.
In FFVI, you may be able to cast Water 2 or 3 but tbh I can't remember either way. So it's not exactly unusual.

As far as I know FFX is the only game were there is no water spells. >_>
I haven't really played all the games to know what games have which. :gasp:
But yeah, XII doesn't have anymore water spells after Water. It's a shame though, like most of the spells go up to -aga, why couldn't Water!?

Because no one at Square likes water :ness:

I miss it from FFX. I WANTS MY WATER NOW! I don't get why there isn't Watera or Wateraga/Waterga, but... they need to add it. Some fiends are weak to it, or they could like... I don't know, make fire fiends weakest to blizzard but slightly weak to water?! Grrr, it makes me mad. Were there any water Espers? O.O

In XII, fire enemies are weak to water, water is weak to fire, thunder is weak to ice (!) and ice is weak to thunder. Weird. Thunder should be weak to Water >_>
And in IX Kraken from Memoria casts Waterga.

Wow, I never realised how many games are missing the Water family.

^ Yeah, I found it strange as well, how Water is weak against Fire and also how Ice is weak against Thunder. And, just making sure, is XII the first game in the series to have this puzzling combination?

Yup. In most games Fire is weak to Ice and Water, and Ice and Water are both weak to Fire. And Water is also weak to Thunder. And I'm bored.

And WOOOOT POST #100!!!!!!!!

Yeah it is not in FFVII through FFIX.
Atleast from what I remember.

The elemental systems in FF do seem to be quite strange. The four fundamental elements are always Fire, Earth, Wind and Water (in XII this is apparent in the names of the Gates in Giruvegan - Gate of Fire, Gate of Earth etc.), yet the three main elemental spells always seem to be Fire, Thunder and Ice. FFX was unique in almost fixing this problem by giving Water equal status to the other spells, but it still broke the symmetry by not having a Water Aeon.

And in XII, you have Aero and Aeroga, but not 'Aeroa', although I don't think that's ever existed. Aero magic was traditionally learnt by blue mages, another concept that XII neglected.

Also, there's the Ardour spell in XII - an extra fire spell.

As it was the first FF I have played, I couldn't notice the it is missing, as I didn't know such a thing exist. Even though I have wondered back then why Water and Aero are different from Fire, Ice and Thunder.

I personally can't understand what is the point of having both Ice and Water, as they are the same thing. Just one is solid and the other is liquid.
Those ho weak against water should be weak against ice as well and vice versa.

Its they're not in FFXII, but I really didn't mind the exclusion, mainly because I nevered really used the spells in FFX and it wasn't one of my favorites.

Aerora, not Aeroa... It existed in Kingdom Hearts...

As to the absence of Watera and Waterga, it pissed me off b/c I've had enemies cast BOTH OF THOSE SPELLS at me, and it made me wonder why the heck I couldn't have it... The other lacked spell is Earth... There were plenty of enemies weak to the Earth element, and yet the only way to utilize that weakness was with ranged weapons(shot, bolts, and arrows) of the earth element... What, they couldn't think of a name for an Earth Element spell that would fit their little -a and -ga thing?? Ok, I'll admit I can't think of anything that doesn't sound stupid, but still...

I did however like the added spells that haven't been seen b4, such as Bravery, Faith, Bubble, Shock, Scathe, and Ardor... I did find those spells useful...
