Simple question:
How would you react if you were in a situation of high danger?

I would probably attempt to calm down, then think rationally --- don't ask why, that's what comes to mind, though I'd probably be dead before I execute whatever it was I was planning to do in the first place. xD

Anyways, I hope nature kicks in and pulls me out of it before I do something incredibly stupid.

I was in a situation of danger a few weeks ago. Not really because the doors on my car were locked. We (4 others) and I were driving to Monterey for a weekend getaway, and...on the way, we were driving out in the country (with no one around) and some beaners drove up next to us and started throwing change at our car. My stupid friend threw a soda bottle at their car and missed. Incidentally, we both pulled off at the same exit (we were behind them) and my other idiot friend in the driver seat high beamed them a few times.
Next thing you know, these two huge cholos get out of the car and walk over to our car. One of them had a humongous shanker. o.0 They started banging on the windows, and rocking the car back and forth.
Uhm...I was pretty scared. I mean...I wouldn't have been if there was no shanker, but...the knife scared me quite a bit.
But uhm...my friend just floored the car and they jumped out of the way, and fortunately they stopped following us.

It's happend to me once or twice. I used to go rock climbing and once I got into a dangerouse situation and I have to admit I started to freak out, but I had to learn that freaking out can only make matters worse, you have to calm down and think of a any idea and form a way to get out of that danger.

How we react to danger is based entirely on the nature of the danger in question. If I am in danger, I tend to freak out. If somebody else is, I tend to be very calm, rational and get them out of trouble.

That isn't me being cool, its just the way I am.

When I am in a situation of danger, I will either:
A) Flip out, scream, cry...
B) Zone out...

I'm very easily scared by things that I'm unfamiliar with. For example, a few months back, I was sitting at the hair salon and my finger started hurting very badly. I could almost feel it pulsing. I reached down and noticed a small bump on my finger (you may all laugh...) but...as soon as I noticed it, I just kind of went into shock. I slouched down into my chair, and the girl next to me started talking to me, but I couldn't hear her. It felt like I was under water or something.

Well...that's not the first time I've had an "episode" like that in public. I actually passed out in line to buy tickets for a concert once and I lost my vision for over half an hour. That was quite frightening...

If I cut myself shaving, I will undoubtedly pass out. If I have a shot at the doctors office, I will pass out. I'm scared of lots of things. Especially blood. ^.^

I'm very wimpy. But in situations of real danger I would probably not panic as badly as I would if I gave myself a paper cut.

LOl, then we arn't so different.

We live in a world where everyone (particullarly the media) tells us that we are in danger... Bird Flu, Terrorism, Rapists, Murderers, Paper Cuts....

The truth is, we arn't, of course terrible things do happen to people but not very often. Have courage... be wise and sensible but never paranoid.

I really hope that that didn't sound patronising.

I am not quite sure off the top of my head what I might do in certain situations...I would have to be given a scenario...

I'm not sure what to think of the state of the world. I used to watch the news with my dad every morning when I was a kid, and...even when they didn't have violence to broadcast, they would come up with the most ridiculous things, as long as it was something unsettling. I've even seen news episodes about dogs being hit by cars. O.m.f.g.
But I did live in the country...

So what would you do if someone stuck a gun to your head. Late at night, no one around, just you and a guy with a gun...?

I think for me it would largely depend on the situation. For example, when I was driving the mustang that being my first car and a vehicle with so much balls had me doing all kinds of stupid-ass things. Once I floored it just a little too hard while turning at a stop sign behind work after it had just rained and ended up doing a 540 degree spin (yes that's a complete 360 spin and then another half spin so I was re-oriented facing the way I'd come). I didn't freak out or panic, or freeze up. I just calmly let off the gas and did my best to try and make sure I didn't smack the curb or anything else.

There was another time in that car I was racing an acquaintance from work, ended up slamming my brakes at an unexpected light and lost control and ended up spinning this car again and going over a center-divider, ended up on the other side of the street. Completely shattered my brakes, and I jacked up my front struts pretty damned good too. Yeah, my first year or two driving I was a complete idiot. Some of us just learn our lessons hard and I'm only thankful no-one got hurt and I'm the only one that incurred any damage. Could have been far more expensive a lesson than it had been.

But regardless of any inherent stupidity to be had from both situations, the point is that both times I managed to remain calm and do what I could to try and regain control and hopefully minimize what I could. It was only after the fact that I got a little shaky and the implications of what could have happened worse hit me. So obviously in situations where I feel I can still exert some control or salvage a situation action just kinda kicks in. In a confrontation with someone with a weapon or a gun, I'm really not sure how I can react because I've never been there. I could give all kinds of bravado-laced responses, and I'd sure like to think I'd react with that same sort of calm, but you never know. I know I'd certainly be pissed off, and the desire to fuck their shit up would be predominant. But whether or not I'd freeze up or grow some balls, or whatever else I couldn't possibly know until I find myself presented with that.

I'd probably flip out at first. Then try to calm down and get out of the situation.

I doubt I will ever be in one of these situations though, at least I hope I am not.

I'd probably either :

A) Panic and cause the situation to get worse.
b) Turn all Miliitia-Like and take complete control of the situation

I would definitely panic, but would try to get enough sense to think of a possible way out of the danger.

I remember a few years ago, my husband (my boyfriend then), two of my friends, and I were walking to our car during dark hours. Well, before we even got in the car, three or four Mexicans started talking to us, asking us what time it was, blah blah blah (they were like a few yards away)...two of them started walking toward us, both hands on their pockets. =/
Well, that was enough to freak me out.

They asked my husband, "Is she your hina?" (I think that was the word they used...) and my husband just kept his cool...but also walked slowly toward them. I freaked out and whispered for him to get in the damn car and drive. My other two friends were getting scared too. At that point, I wanted to hit my husband for acting "cool"... -_-

In the end though, nothing happened. I mean, they were probably just trying to scare us, but still...

Guys, please don't try to act cool in front of your girlfriends. -.-

I'm not actually sure what I'd do. I'm a human being so my instinct would probably take over everything else. I may want to stop and think but I may end up fleeing, or fighting. I'm guessing it would be one or the other since that's the natural defence technique.

How would I react when in serious danger? I know I’d panic, but at the same time, I’d be searching for an advantage or a way out or the situation.

While going through college I took a job as an installer for Comcast Cable and during the first month of employment, you had to go through three weeks of Gaffing classes, which is learning how to climb Telephone Poles using only your two hands and two small spikes attached to the bottom of your boots. Anyway, the first two weeks I had the comfort of a safety harness to catch me if I Gaff out, but on the third week I had climb up a three story pole without a safety harness, make two complete circles at the top and then climb back down.

Long story short, on the third week I Gaffed out all the way at the top of the pole dangling on one leg and immediately started freaking out since it’s a long fall back down. I knew I had to immediately use the good leg to pull myself back up and re-catch the other Gaff back into the pole, basically if I remained in that panicked position, my good leg would have quickly grown tired, not allowing me to pull myself up, inevitably falling three stories. >.<
