I don't think he will sell it. Obviously nobody would PAY for it. HE said he will torrent it. Give it away for free in which case I think it would be worth having a look at.

Either way, he'd lose more money than he could possibly ever make from it, because both companies would sue him for at least double the recorded profit. Just the way they work :P

Ryvius that post really was not necessary. If you haven't noticed, SE has been remaking some of their earlier FF games such as III and an IV remake will be coming out soon.

And watch how you word yourself. Some people could find that very offensive.

You'd be surprised how many people out there actually do. I am one of them.

As far as the game idea goes, maybe you should just use RPG Maker and make a Dark Cloud sort of game. It might actually be possible that way.

Also, call it something else like Fantasy Finale 7 or something to dodge the old copyright laws before you actually publish it anyway - that is, if you get to that stage.

Yeah um, copyrights and plagiarism entail ALOT more then just changing the name. There's a thing called "intellectual property", it means you can't use the same ideas. He'd still be stealing.

Fair enough, the general idea of my post being - "don't call it Final Fantasy 7: The Remake" make sure it's different, well sufficiently different, to be correct.

Yeah, and then we'd have to make all the characters, plot, and setting sufficiently different too. If we changed all that, we could definitely get away with it.

The point is, if he was to make a remake of Final Fantasy 7, it would be copyright infringement period. No ifs, ands or buts about it. It doesn't matter what you call it or if he decided to change a few things here and there. The game was created by Square. They own all rights to it. End of story.
